was looking at some of the stats available on gear and thorns looks absurdly powerful. I hope its not to the point where we are pigeon holed into taking Fierce Loyalty passive if we want to have effective summons.
I never liked the idea of thorns in d2. thought it was a cheesey way to balance summons.
1) From what I understand monsters at higher levels will have pretty large health pools compared to the damage they do to players, so it may not be as powerful as it seems.
2) Is it possible that monster attacks are figured in a similar way to player attacks in that monsters have a conceptual "weapon damage" affected by a multiplier depending on how they attack? If so, the % we're seeing on thorns damage may relate to the weapon damage of the monster as opposed to the damage we would see them do?
Again, I'm stabbing in the dark. This thread just made me look up the numbers, and yeah, they're wacky. I can only assume they're balanced in a context we don't have perspective on yet.

I grew up gaming without internet forums. The entire phenomenon of being upset with a game developer makes no sense to me. No sense. I cannot imagine spending my time and energy being upset about something I choose to do for recreation.
Still seems OP as hell. Bosses have millions of HP, normal mobs only have a few thousand.
Many mobs in inferno could 3-4 shot themselves hitting a WD pet, or Barb.
That genuinely seems OP to me.
huh? bro mobs in inferno have HUNDREDS of thousands of health to MILLIONS. look at the guide. only the weakest of the weak mobs in act 1 have only like 50k health

Im pretty excited to utilize a thorns build, It seems WD and Monk have some excellent builds that can revolve around it.
I'm hoping that the Spider Queen and Toad of Hugeness will take advantage of this stuff as well, Could have 4 dogs, gargantuan, fetishes, spider queen, toad of hugeness (I feel like the toad might not work though)... it'd be a mini army all stacked with thorns, could be very effective!

spider queen and toads of hugeness cannot be targeted therefor would not benefit from thorns.
but ya 4 dogs and garg with thorns a long with a follower will be a nice effective army

will be using this follower with thorns build http://us.battle.net...ollower#!0!1010 . since charm had its CD increased and duration reduced it blows now
Do you have a source for the Spider Queen not being targetable? I don't doubt the toad of hugeness working as a pet from the videos, but I haven't seen or heard anything on Spider Queen, and her tooltip makes her sound like a pet, makes it sound like she stays around till she dies - thus assuming she takes dmg from enemies.

Only champions or mobs in like Act 4 go into the hundreds of thousands the last time I looked.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
May i know what are the stats to stack besides melee dmg per hit to attacker?
I'm at currently 471dmg per hit to attacker, which i think is too low. Pet is getting killed real fast to champion class mob. Not really sure thorn build is viable in Hell.

Quoted for truth. It was a mistype in the Brady guides. They have %'s in a lot of places they weren't supposed to be.

Interesting.. I've seen the videos with the spider, but never heard of these numbers.
20% per sec AOE poison seems pretty solid though..
its in the beta when you mouse over the rune
