Alright, so a lot of us are coming back to level paragon before the expansion hits. It seems a lot of the high level players are liquidating their gear to stock up gold and sit on it before the expansion. But what about people like myself who are sitting on only two characters above Para 35 and maybe 1billion invested? Should we be buying this gear right now? Or should we wait? Prices most likely will go down but how much? Are we seeing a shock to the economy right now?
Your thoughts?
As he said in the interview at 1:35 that your gear wont be obsolete immediatly ( so it will be after a few time ) and also he said if you have pretty good gear we want you to upgrade new ones..
So gear will get obsolete after a few times farming, o/c at the release it will still be pretty good gear with a little stat upgrade, but after finder gear you will have to change it, as he said, diablo is about upgrading gear.
Are you going to play now? Start leveling your characters now? Then by all means buy the gear you need now.
Nobody can really predict with certainty if prices will go up or down, so you might wait 1-2 months, the prices do not drop, and then you wasted all this time "waiting" for something that won't happen.
If you're not gonna play for a while, and just wanna get the most value of your current gear or gold, you might wanna wait for more solid "leads" of what will happen.
While it probably will be a buyers market, if you're fine with where you're currently at there really is no need to upgrade. My gear isn't the best but i do mp 8-9 with ease however I generally farm with xp gear on at mp5-6. The need to upgrade honestly is subjective at most. I certainly could upgrade all of my gear, but its at the price point now where I simply can't afford it. I have about 450 mil saved up and I plan to sit on it for the expansion. 450mil isn't even a lot based on what some people are holding onto but I don't play that often as I prefer making money in the real world with my job.
At the end of the day you have to consider the value of those items will continue to go down as time passes and by the time the expansion hits, they'll only last u as far as they can before you replace them.
Id wait a few weeks if you want to save some gold. The items are going to get cheaper and cheaper until more information about 2.0 comes out, at that time I could see prices leveling out.
I don't know im on a hording binge myself. My gear is good enough to level all my character to high paragon, so im gaining that Xp, Stockpiling materials and gold.
If you can comfortable do MP4-6+ then I wouldn't buy, or at least right now. The market will probably be close to free fall right after Blizzcon unless they announce something that would cause gear value to stagnate or inflate. I don't see that happening though. I'm just working on Para levels slowly and hoarding legendaries for now.

^^^This. The price will drop hard when they annouce the ptr for loot 2.0 and then drop harder when the ptr goes live. I'm keeping gear so I can play one charc at MP7-8, selling all other excess gear, and just sitting on the rest of the money.
Where's the 'don't buy now, or ever, until after expansion' option? They WANT a full item reset, it'l help this game so much, but they can't just delete everyone's items. What they can do however is reveal items 7 ilvls ahead of everything we have. All this gear is going to be worthless VERY soon after launch.
People are stockpiling because they think they'll be able to let the mystic re-roll every stat on an item until you get it perfect. I very, VERY much doubt that will happen, because even when making that item BoA after enchanting, which then pulls it out of the economy, if you're able to make one item that you have complete BiS because you can re-roll it infinitely, then the whole system screws itself over.
I'm guessing there's going to be a very small cap on how many times you can re-roll an affix, and all these people buying mempo's hoping they'll roll all of them to 6% crit are going to be very dissapointed.
Those 'high end players' are doing the smart thing; Selling everything you have. I wouldn't buy, unless it was dirt cheap and it was only to be used to play now while you wait for RoS.
The only thing I did buy is a Cain's set with strength. I only spent about 4 million on it. That way I will have something to level my new Crusader as quickly as possible. I can see the prices of those going up substantially at launch. Or maybe I'm just being captain antsy pants...

Only the high end players can do that. If I'd sell my gear, I'd probably get a few hundred million, but naked leveling in RoS is gonna be a pain in the ass...
If you don't have gear worth billions, I wouldn't go crazy in any direction (buy or sell) but just keep on and enjoy playing.

I said it in a different thread but the only thing I am holding for my Crusader is a STR HFR. The rest is going to come self found loot 2.0. Maybe I am crazy but I think that it's going to be a rewarding experience.

It is really far off, I just decided to get that out of the way while I was thinking about it.
I think you are overestimating the value of a Cain's Set on a level 60 character. For calculations, I'll use my XP calc cause I'm lazy.
From the screenshots we've seen so far it's safe to say that NV5 is available during leveling as well and not just once you hit cap. Furthermore, let's assume you're leveling solo and on a very low MP, let's say MP2. Before you'll use the Cain's Set, I think no one will disagree that you'll use a Hellfire Ring and ruby at first, and put a Hellfire Ring on your follower (remember, leveling solo). The relative increase of XP by equipping a Cain's Set would then be 13.5%. Take away 3 items from your char and see if your DPS is still at least 86.5% of your max DPS... if no, forget about Cain's Set. It'll slow down your leveling speed more than the bonus XP you'll gain.
Now, that was a very conservative calculation. At some point you'll probably up the MP a bit (let's say, MP7), and you'll level with friends (let's assume a 3 player game). Relative increase on MP7+3 players+ruby+HR+NV5 for a Cain's Set: 6.8%. Now tell me you still think ditching 3 items of your equipment is worth it.
Cain's Set only makes sense if your gear is really really really bad (remember that you can use any barb gear for your Crusader), and/or you're leveling on your own (multiplicative XP bonus is huge).
By the way, x-pac is still months away. Wait a few weeks until the hype settles and you'll get all your stuff (incl. Cain's Set, if you still believe in it) for much less. Remember that it's a crafting recipe - the market will be flooded if the price even increases 1%.

I'm only planning on using the Cains set from level 23 to about 50ish. Not at all beyond that.
