I'm sure many of you may have noticed the line in my siggy asking for people to visit my Bnet thread in respect to a pick-up toggle being absent from Diablo 3. Thank you to the many members whom have followed through and helped me with this.
I'm going to push hard for this, as it would be a huge quality of life improvement, especially for the melee classes.
A little background;
Diablo 2 had a toggle option that prevented players from being able to click on loot on the ground unless you held the ALT key down. This prevented junk loot from showing up in your inventory. As well, it prevented any interruption in combat from miss-clicking on ground loot.
This was accomplished by typing /nopickup into the chat command box.
Diablo 3 could add this option to the Options menu, under Gameplay, select 'Pick-Up Toggle'. The key bind could be optional, but defaulted as the ALT key.
The crucial issue here is that the Left-Click on our mouse has simultaneous functions (attack & pick-up) that often contradict what the player intends. This issue is particularly harsh on Monks whom run a combo-strike build, as we're left/right/left/right clicking ad nauseam.
So, with all that said, I'm rallying the troops of Diablofans to make a difference and get this idea pushed through with brute force.
I am asking everyone, whether this issue is driving you nuts (like me) or simply just a minor annoyance....please visit my thread @ Bnet forums, click 'like' on the OP and post as much as you wish to bump this topic up the devs ass, respectfully of course.
I would ask people to abstain from the typical nasty, troll-face verbiage while there. Also, please do not go off-topic with rants about a loot filter. The devs made it clear that's not going to happen and it only convoluted what I wish to be a clear thread with a clear message.
I agree it's quite annoying (Barb here) when in battle I want to click on a monster and instead pick up loot. So, I've 'liked' your thread over there. Good luck & hope it gets noticed (at the least).
while it's a good idea, there's so much crap going on in pubs i don't even know if i'm attacking or picking something up... then i'm like " when did i pick up this shit?" lol

Working with adobe and/or java is like pushing a paper clip against a building and expecting it to move...
I use "W" to move and right click / shift + anything to attack so i never thought this option was missing. I guess they could add a toggle option but the forced move pretty much solves it. YOu can bind it to the Spacebar or something... I use 1-4 for skills and "W" to move, simple.
Sure, you can certainly work around it with shift-clicking, and as other people have suggested, force move.
But simply having an option to be unable to pick up items that aren't showing their label will completely remove this problem without the faffing about that we need currently.

While the idea is fine and should have been implemented on release I don't see how this is a 'critical issue'. It is very annoying to have a pack of monsters drop closer to 20 items on top of each other but as far as I know that is already getting addressed in the itemization patch and will become much more tolerable.
You answered someone who also with the following quote:
I used the words "Critical" and "serious" for a few reasons. Many people are saying exactly what I am. They go to town and have 10+ pieces of junk in their inventory. Each one has to be click-dragged individually onto the ground.
Seconds make minutes. Do this about 30 times in a single play session (a conservative estimate) and you've just spent several minutes of your time dropping junk that you should never have picked up.
2nd; mis-clicks on junk interrupt the flow of combat. D3 has outstanding combat mechanics and tripping and stumbling over loot on the ground betrays this.
3rd; This issue is HUGE with HotA barbs. It can even cause death in the more intense situations. Something that us HC players consider to be quite "serious".
4th; This is a VERY EASY fix to make. VERY VERY EASY. They could have it done tomorrow if they wanted. It's been a year, time to fix this.
The three first paragraphs all describe players who lack multitasking skills and haven't bothered to practice precision clicking. Being able to quickly click on specific units, mineral patches or zones on the map in starcraft might seem like an insignificant skill to have but it saves plenty of time and just adds another feature you need to become good at to master the game. You need to pay more attention to the game if you don't realize you've picked up half your inventory worth of garbage before you enter town. There is a ton of downtime when you run from pack to pack or for example teleport into town to throw away said garbage. Nothing is stopping you from improving.
ohhh...so it's my lack of skill that's the problem, not the omission of a 12 year old feature that prevents the same button from having multiple conflicting commands? It is your variety of arrogance that impedes progress, sir.
While this might seem like an easy fix I would like to remind you that changing the amount of buffs shown took almost a year to implement and bash/punish still doesn't have a trackable buff. There are an endless amount of more crucial things to add before quality of life elements like these get worked on.
So are you suggesting that since it may take a awhile to implement, that I shouldn't bother getting the idea rolling now? Are you fucking serious or just trying to argue?
People said the same shit when everyone was clamoring for an ID-all feature, they said exactly the same shit. "There's more important blah blah......this is no big deal".
Now that we have ID-all, I trust everyone is happy, aye?
This pick-up issue is something that myself and many others find to be a ridiculous waste of time and a key component in interrupting combat. The combat is so outstanding in D3, that it's a tragedy that something so small as this pick-up issue creates a great deal of interruption.
Sure, you can certainly work around it with shift-clicking, and as other people have suggested, force move.
But simply having an option to be unable to pick up items that aren't showing their label will completely remove this problem without the faffing about that we need currently.
This force move thing isn't an honest solution imo. This is a matter of poor design and interceding commands arriving from the same button.
Way to throw another tantrum and not think about anything objectively. I mentioned it twice that I support implementing the feature EVENTUALLY but there definitely are more burning issues that need to be addressed and somehow you missed both..
Not throwing a "tantrum".
You essentially wrote a longer version of L2P. This clearly isn't a player skill issue. It's a design issue. I would really rather not degrade this thread with bickering over what is an obvious issue that we should all be together on. I appreciate that you support he idea.
What I don't understand is your claim that a lack of manual dexterity is part of the problem. Nor can I understand how pointing out a problem is any less relevant due to the presence of larger problems.
I find it funny that you said this earlier;
players who lack multitasking skills
...but then you pretend that Blizzard, a huge multi-million dollar software company with endless resource, somehow cannot multitask themselves and solve these more benign issues while also addressing the more pressing issues like itemization.
This isn't a hard issue to address, something I'm pressing now in hopes it gets implemented with the coming itemization patch. When it does get implemented (and it will) you can send me flowers or candy, some small token of gratitude.
little multitasking practice and rethinking your keybinds will make your huge problem go away TODAY.
That's simply not true and dozens of people disagree with you. There is no toggle for left click, that's the problem. "Multitasking"....dude, nobody wants to multitask with such a silly issue as junk loot needing to be dropped from inv on the fly. That's not something people wish to get good at.
I wanted to add that I AM multitasking, as you put it. Have been for a year now. I'm flipping junk out of my inv while I TP out. I'm bringing up my inv and dropping loot while I run....and you know what I muttering aloud everytime I do this? "I shouldn't have to do this".
It is not that myself and/or others CANNOT mitigate the issue with multitasking. The issue is WHY we have to do this at all.
As well, there is no keybind solution to toggle left click.

You're very correct. Blizzard the company has endless pits of money but D3 the non-esport and non-subscription based title doesn't. When someone's already bought the game it makes no financial difference if they quit or stay which is most likely the core problem to why even the smallest additions take so long to get published.
You've heard of the RMAH, right?
You don't see that as incentive for them? I'm sure they'd prefer people stay with that model in place.
Best of luck with this. I fear that any suggestions right now are going to be drowned out by the massive sand-in-the-vagina effect that the community is having over the RMAH gold dupe bug.
You know, a thousand "JUST REROLL EVERYONE," "BLIZZ Y U SO FAIL?" and "OMG ECONOMY IS FUKED UP!" posts per day drowining out anything else anyone might want to discuss.

RS Emerald gem prices are now @ 26m, down 2 mil from an hour ago.
This whole chicken little trend won't cease even though the market is fine. It's amazing how far people will go to deny facts.
Their argument not to implement a no-pickup for blues would be because they don't want an item quality to not drop, even though they clutter the vision so much i don't even see the demonic essences T_T. But really no-1 asks about that, just decrease the amount of % chance you have on blues and yellows and there will drop less blues and not too much anymore :/ And at the same time do the itemization fix so those legendary drops make up for the lesser blues and yellows.
Honestly I doubt Blizzard has any idea how the screen can be cluttered for a level 100 now and then, or even after 70 you already start to not see the drops through the blues, so I´ll go and create some screenshots over the next few days and make another post about that on the official d3 forums. Or if you want I could put them in your post, ruksak.
/nopickup just prevents you from clicking on it without holding another key (ALT).
I believe you're thinking about a drop filter, the ability to choose what items display. I'm not asking for that. Just a feature to toggle between the 'attack' command and the 'pick-up' command.
In all honesty I never have this problem on my barb and monk, even though they are melee, and I can take it or leave it as far as the /nopickup option goes. BUT, I see the same passion for this that I have for a free-roam mode. It boils down to a convenience factor, which I can appreciate. In the end both things won't break the game whether they are implemented or not, but that doesn't devalue it.
Sure, you can certainly work around it with shift-clicking, and as other people have suggested, force move.

How exactly? You move using a button... and it won't pick up anything. Exactly what you are asking for my friend. Oh cuz it's not bound to the mouse left click? really?... I'm pretty sure Blizzard won't implement anything like /nopickup since it's already in the game in one form or another.
I support this petition, as I'm struggling with the same thing now that I play melee. Force move and shift aren't solutions, in my opinion; having to use them to begin with is precisely the problem. Currently I'm holding shift whenever I fight, since the teleport on my spirit generator allows this. High APS and thunderclap with shift solve the problem, but whenever I use groupbuilds with quickening I end up with 20 blue items in my inventory. This, for me, is supremely annoying.
But finding the demonic essence behind the line of 5 blue items, three Aegis and a two-hander is equally frustrating. There should also be a toggle for "show blue items".
Edit: I'm also using combostrike, and have to put the other generator on "1" to avoid what the OP is talking about. Took a while to get used to counter-intuitive setups. Shouldn't be necessary.
I think this is going a bit too far guys... Toggle magic items off? why won't they just remove them from the game and be done with it?
They won't do that. I guess they should just make the functionality of the left mouse click the same as forced move whenever you are not clicking on a monster but that might hold some technical difficulties.
I don't understand why you think that they should spoon feed you with shit just so you won't have to get used to something. And how the hell is pressing "W" and "Shift" counter intuitive?
I'm not going to "sign" this because i don't think it is a matter of urgency. If they implement that, good. If not, what the hell, i'll live on. Besides, ideas that are alot better or mechanics that make more sense are not being exactly "signed" so yeah...
