Theory crafting is fun and all but when the game starts becoming like spreadsheets it kind of takes away from skill and adaptability.
That was just in response to rozmata basically saying I must be a terrible player that would just use somebody else's cookie-cutter build anyway.
In any case, I fully support being able to experiment with skills on the lower difficulties--its a much better system than feeling like you have to look at guides elsewhere before you start playing.
What’s the difference between making 1 ice wizard, 1 fire wizard, and 1 lightning wizard OR having A wizard that can do any of those and swapping some gear? I just don't have to make 3 chars for nothing. Restarting a game just to do a skill swap doesn't make my decision that much more enticing or interesting, it’s a waste of time. I'm glad I can swap skills, once I get my ass handed to me and die a couple of times I'll change my skill accordingly that will make my choice fulfilling because I didn’t die.
I'm not saying that a single character shouldn't be able to be different things. I just don't think you should be able to be them all at the same time. My point was that with the current system you don't have to pay any attention to the possible downside of the skills at all. Just pick 6+3 skills that are best for what you are doing right now and if you get to a point where those skills start to show their weaknesses, NO PROBLEM! just switch to a different setup on the fly. Its sort of the "god-mode" of skill systems where you have access to all the power of all the skills at all times. I certainly understand why this appeals to a lot of people, I just think a smidgen of additional limitation would bring actual trade-offs to skill selection and thus make it a more interesting game system.
Sorry m8. I want to get to 60 and try all the nice builds and see how they work with my own skills, what I like and not and not to have to be unhappy because I'm not perfect and now I have to pay for it building new character. Like many ppl say, want to stick to skills, go ahead and stop pulling other people with you. Lets be super hardcore and say, that you can only have one character, one set of skills chosen before you start playing before you even know how well they work in inferno difficulty and if you want to create new character you have to buy game again. Do you like it?
/agree 110%
If you want to make up ridiculous rules to follow, then you ahead and you do that. You don't need blizzard to make these arbitrary rules, you can make them and follow them yourself. If you are afraid you will cheat, well that just means you are of low character. So dont blame everyone else for your shortcomings, and leave everyone else alone.
D3 has WAY WAY WAY too many potential viable/fun builds for them to limit experimentation. I mean this is fking common sense ppl!
stfu.... it has nothing to do with cheating it has to do with gameplay. You don't fucking get it... its not that we don't ANY respec... we want to limit it enough that its not a every concievable situation flip flop.
lol way to take the high road. In fact, you've just helped me in my case against people like you; You want to control people. You are afraid someone else somewhere else who you'll never meet might change their specs, and because it's not the way YOU want to play your scared. What's the difference in me wanting to switch my spec to a more defensive one for a certain boss in D3, and me switching specs to fit a raid role in WoW or other games? There isn't any, you and people like you have control issues and you want everyone else to play like you would play. Get over yourselves, as the majority most defiantly likes the way D3 is set up. If you don't like it, please don't play it. I don't feel like running into nerdragers like you in game.
It dumbs the fucking game down. If you are going to reference WoW (which i did play at one point) in ANY argument for or against diablo 3 you invalidate yourself what so ever.
As i have sound countless times ... this is not a shooter... or Contra.... if you want to make it like contra then ffs remove 5 skills at a time and make it one.

What's stopping you? How many times do YOU think is enough respecs? 2 per character lifetime? Once per month? Congrats, play the game that way. Your game is perfect, now let the rest of us play the way Blizzard intends.

Fair enough, but just because I switch a skill before a fight doesn't mean I'm going roll over them and it's god mode time, please give inferno some credit.
Yes we have access to all skills at anytime but you are still limited to 9 at once and if unlimited swapping is allowed in battle those couple seconds switching skills in mid battle (in inferno mode) will likely lead to death. Easy to learn tough to master I prefer this approach. I think this makes for a much more interesting game, but as this thread has proven people have different view point of fun and interesting, nothing will change either's view point.
It's kind of like what I said to Sabvre earlier sticking to one set of skills is challenging and all but fight a nearly impossible to win scenario for two hours is not my definition of fun, I rather adapt and move on in say 10 minutes. I don't have 12 hours a day to play games anymore.

why did my post get ignored on liek the second page by sabvre?
idc if you add a cost or make me go to town i will still respec the exact same amount of times as i would without. and the 30 sec CD isnt any different then having to go to town, why? because i can TP go to town switch and be back in combat BEFORE the 30 seconds would be up back when they had the nephlem alters.
your just costing the player a bit of inconvenience thats all, it changes nothing. get that through your insanely thick skull dude. its an illusion of permanancy thats it.

No - you won't. What you are saying is a complete and utter fallicy.
How many people go the speed limit or just above it because of the inconvenience of a ticket? How many people started wearing a seatbelt or forcing others to wear a seat belt in their vehicle due to the inconvenience of a seat belt ticket.
OR another example:
How many bank robberies are prevented due to the detering effect of a security system. Just because it exists doesn't mean the crime doesn't happen... it just makes it difficult enough to deter most offenders.
You are afraid someone else somewhere else who you'll never meet might change their specs, and because it's not the way YOU want to play your scared. The argument that "you can just choose not to switch skills with the current system so STFU" just doesn't work. If the game is balanced around being able to use the best set of skills for each situation, then people who don't skill swap will be nerfing themselves. Its not about wanting to make the game harder (if skill swapping was more limited the game would just be balanced around that). Its about wanting skill choices to actually matter.
I'm sure I'll enjoy the game no matter what system they end up using, but if given the choice I'd rather have my skill choices be more meaningful. If I can just swap them all the time then I feel like I'm pretty much just like everyone else of that class since I can use everything whenever I want. Click on the door to enter a boss fight, swap skills to the cookie-cutter build for that fight, cooldowns are done by the time the door opens/RP finishes/and I walk across the room to the boss. It just doesn't seem like it will be as interesting as if there was more incentive to pick 6+3 and stick with it throughout a play session.
I know how much of an asshole i will sound with this ... but:

Being able to switch out skills when you want adds a alot of depth and a little more realism to the game. Changing your strat when faced with different battlefield situations is what any logical person would do.
And like I said before, it would make absolutely no sense to have billions of viable builds and not allow free experimentation. Any 3rd grader could understand that...

Difficult games are not as common as they used to be , but my assumption of gaming demographics explains this... basically kids and teens have the time and parents income to get games, IMO kids these days are lazy and retarded, so you’re going to find less mind games and more blah. I like to think I was part of the initial gaming demographic (played Nintendo since 7 I think), but I accept that fact games are not made for me anymore. I still am in hopes that this game will be difficult, just because it’s easy to learn doesn't mean you'll master it i.e. inferno... but we'll see.

wow dude thats the icing on the cake of every retarded thing you've ever said. this is by far the stupidest shit i have ever heard.
unless you make it cost insane amounts of gold, yes i still would respec the exact same number of times, IDC about gold because its easy to get. you care about a speeding ticket because real life money is not that easy to get (for most people) and you dont want points on your license and to get it suspended, your a tool for making that comparison.

Yes thats whats important...keeping those bastards from enjoying their GAME.
You do realize those laws are in place for a good reason right? Unlike your ridiculous arbitrary rules you want to force everyone else to follow.
Did you guys ever explore the idea that perhaps you could freely be able to add subtract and move skill points freely? That would address the issues you experienced while testing and allow for people to keep unique builds based of skill distribution. That can't be too bad of an alternative?
Yeah, I mean that's essentially what respecs are, just a bit more wholesale.
The base problem with skill points is that we found they simply put too much incentive toward pumping up one or two skills. If we wanted to balance the game it means we'd have to let someone be able to essentially beat the game with that build since it's the most obvious. You're not going to put a few points here, a few there, you're going to go the D2 route, horde points, and dump them all into a core skill or two. It really limited builds since points always went toward specific types of attacks that scaled well with additional points, and we're not going to keep systems that are stifling (viable) build potential and (meaningful) character customization.
I'd like to bring up a really big issue. Skill point hoarding, how can you really eliminate that? Even the most fanatic supporters of the D2 skill point system will agree that this is a broken mechanic. Adding respecing caused a kind of backfire - you would respec and relocate the points in your new and more powerful skill(s) at which point you should realize that the skill points are just a trivial and a dated design direction. At the same time nothing should limit experimentaion. Blizzard are trying to hit the sweet spot and offer exactly that - a better sense of build commitment (a reasonably restraining respec system, which would not encourage abuse, gameplay hindering or severe penalties), while keeping the door open for experimentaion at any time.
Here is how. Every lvl you get 6 skill points. There is no sinergys. One skill can have max 60 points in it. So in the end you will have 6 skill maxed out, same as the system with no points (like it is now), but advantage is that you can have more than 6 skills, you can tune the skills how you want, and have full control over them. So tell me, why is there system better compared to this one?
No - you won't. What you are saying is a complete and utter fallicy.
How many people go the speed limit or just above it because of the inconvenience of a ticket? How many people started wearing a seatbelt or forcing others to wear a seat belt in their vehicle due to the inconvenience of a seat belt ticket.

Yeah, modern game development sucks, but there's still hope in D3 untill they release new rune-system. Some hope it won't be another arcade crap with skill-swapping without any big penalties.

I still am in hopes that this game will be difficult, just because it’s easy to learn doesn't mean you'll master it i.e. inferno... but we'll see.
are you fucking high? your comparing in-game gold costs of respeccing to speeding tickets? ITS IN GAME GOLD FFS.
wow dude thats the icing on the cake of every retarded thing you've ever said. this is by far the stupidest shit i have ever heard.
unless you make it cost insane amounts of gold, yes i still would respec the exact same number of times, IDC about gold because its easy to get. you care about a speeding ticket because real life money is not that easy to get (for most people) and you dont want points on your license and to get it suspended, your a tool for making that comparison.
How do you outnumber us? Should we go look up the diablo fans polls?
Yes thats whats important...keeping those bastards from enjoying their GAME.
You do realize those laws are in place for a good reason right? Unlike your ridiculous arbitrary rules you want to force everyone else to follow.
Why would we even bother doing something stupid like that? This site is full of outliers.
A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
Why are you guys trying to argue with Sabvre guy ?
Guy spend his whole work day posting around 10 posts a day for the last 3 or 4 weeks shitting on the game, trolling, trying to sound smart and shit. There's no way it's gonna lead somewhere.
Let him be bitter and shit in hiw own room while you close the door.
Your post reminds me of that video

Yeah, modern game development sucks, but there's still hope in D3 untill they release new rune-system. Some hope it won't be another arcade crap with skill-swapping without any big penalties.
