I'm looking to find out if anyone has any experience attempting to play Diablo 3 using a 3 or 4G cellular broadband. How well does the game play with it? I may be moving to a place with out a wireless hot spot and want to know if Ill still be able to play. I have an unlimited 4G data plan with Verizon and a Thunderbolt smart phone. Thanks

with intert tethering via your phone the internet speed is pretty decent, it doesnt matter on the game, it matters on the computer your using. if your using a shit computer it will lag more. tethering with your phone will be fine.

Thank you WHHB Of course the more people in your party, Id imagine you'd need more and more bandwidth, Id be curious to find out what kind of data is actually being transmitted between your computer and the battle.net servers. This would help to understand how demanding the game is for bandwidth.

well i know D3 i far more graphic intesive then wow considering how old wow is and they went for the far more cartoony look. but i can play wow on ultimate graphics settings with little to no lag even in raids tethered through my iphone. so if you got a nice comp/laptop you should be able to play fine

Tether up now and go to speedtest.net to find out. Even without the game you'll be able to figure out what your speed is which will tell you a lot.
I haven't tried it, but from what I've heard it's really, really slow. Verizon also blocks tethering unless you have a special plan for it, it is not included in the unlimited plan.
My laptop is an Alienware m14x with a 256gb solid state drive, an intel i7 2820QM processor, 8 gigs of 1600mhz ram, and an NVIDIA 3gb GT555M graphics card.
Speedtest.net gave me a ping of 119ms, download of 3208 kbps, and an upload of 2766kbps.
I certainly haven't tested this but I would expect it to run fine. The average mbps upload/download on a 3g or 4g connection is really quite good, more than adequate for battle.net and diablo 3.
I am willing to bet you could play Diablo 3 on 56k dialup.
Just saying...
Sometimes in my first year of WoW i had to play it with a 128k dialup. I suppose diablo3 won't be different at all.
I played WoW WotLK on 56k dialup. The only time I had trouble was when I went to town while it was crowded, in which case I would instantly get DC'd. In fact, I would have to log in several times and crawl my way out of town to escape.

wait so verizon allows you to tether with unlimited data? all other companies require you to pay ADDITIONAL fees to tether...usually unlimited data only covers data when using just the phone
Using tethering with my iPhone 4s, I was able to play in a full party today for about an hour with no major hiccups. At one point (during skele king fight) it lagged out for about 2 seconds, then caught back up
