We either pay a monthly fee like in Warcraft....

or they get their money from the RMAH.

Server uptime isn't free. Bandwidth isn't free either. Electricity to run those servers isn't free. Blizzard made a shitload from selling the game but to keep the game going for five or ten years when hardly anyone buys it anymore, they need a steady source of income.

How come I don't pay a monthly fee to play Starcraft 2? Or Warcraft 3? Or Diablo 2? I think it's funny how modern gamers believe that games suddenly cost more to run than they did 15 years ago when in reality they don't. Don't mistake greed for need.

How come I don't pay a monthly fee to play League of Legends?

I really don't understand where you guys get this mentality, and this is coming from a 28 year old man who has been paying to play online games since Ultima Online. Diablo 3 is not worthy of a subscription fee, and saying that players should have to pay to play is just ridiculous when you take into account the fact that 99% of the online games on the market do not require server/subscription fees.

If server costs were such an issue then Blizzard should at least offer an offline version. They won't even do that.

I wouldn't say I quit so much as I'm no longer "farming." I have "beaten" Inferno mode, but still find my character to be subpar when attempting Elites in Acts 3 and 4, and really only play when a real-life friend asks for help. Other than that, I am waiting to 1.0.3 until I resume my farming. I think that they made damn sure that the RMAH was released before 1.0.3b for very obvious reasons.

I'm fairly irritated with the RMAH. I spent hundreds of hours farming for my weapon, and just found out that I can upgrade it for $10.00. Since Blizzard let exploiters horde billions of gold, and gold can now be purchased with real-life currency, it makes the game impossible to play "legit." Farm for 9-12 hours to get 1 million gold (as a melee), or buy 15 million gold from a Chinese farmer for pocket change?

The choice is yours, but since gold no longer has value (depreciated by aforementioned exploiters), look at spending 1-2 months of gold farming to be able to buy a single upgrade. In the end you are competing against bots/machines, and will never be able to outfarm them. To me this is absolutely game breaking, and the only way that this game can possibly be saved is by making separate servers that do not have a RMAH.

Making assumptions is pretty dumb. How do you know he didn't farm his gear? Or got lucky with early drops and sold them for millions on the AH?

Even assuming he paid for his gear, so what? It all comes down to time == money. If you want to spend time farming your gear, that's one way to look at it. If you rather spend money, why does it matter?

And PVP isn't supposed to be balanced, so not sure why the pvp complaint.

Perhaps because I have over 10 million gold collected, 300 hours played time, and still don't know anyone who has gotten a single drop that could fund the type of gear that this man is wearing with his measly 120 hours of time played, and 1.5 million gold collected.

As far as justifying that time is money, that defeats the purpose of the game for me. I work full-time, and I play a game to have fun. Saying that it is better to spend your real-life money on a game because time = money defeats the entire purpose of a game. Actually enjoying playing it. Comparing time spent in the game to time spent at work? Only if the game isn't actually fun to play (which is no the case).

Here's a piece of advice that may help you out in the world. People derive enjoyment from different things. You don't like paying for items and like to play through everything and earn it? Cool! Kudos to you! That doesn't make you better than the person who derives enjoyment from min/maxing his or her character, and if that person can afford to, why the hell not buy his gear?

Amongst my 2 level 60s, I currently have 25 million gold, probably have spent 5-10 million and I definitely know I could have made atleast 100 mill+ if I had leveled faster/gotten into Inferno faster/not rolled a barb first. Don't judge.

Once again, this kid has 120 hours of played time and only one level 60 character, 1.5 million gold collected, and is wearing over 100 million gold in items. Something doesn't add up. Blizzard actually came out and said the reason that accounts get hacked are because a lot of players buying gold illegally. I don't even know why you're questioning this.

Hey, just ignore it. It's pretty simple, really. Just play the game as you want to play it. I really couldn't care less if someone is buying a way to "win". It's not gonna affect my playing at all.

I agree that it is best to ignore it, but I'm afraid that people like this who voice their opinions on balance, and difficulty settings are doing a great injustice to those who played the game legitimately.

Secondly, when PVP does go live it makes me wonder if someone who didn't spend real life money on their armor will even have a chance at having a decent win-loss ratio. :-\

Legendaries in every slot? Legendaries are not even the best gear, nor really that high in value.

I made a point of saying "perfect" for a reason. It was all Legendary/Set mix (another sign that he bought his items with real life money, because most legit players know these items aren't generally good). Regardless, in this case, every single one of them were truly "perfect" Legendaries. IE. Level 60, and not a better version of that item could possibly be found. His shittiest item was a level 53 "String of Ears" belt, but it was literally the 30 million gold version (20% damage reduction, high str/vit, resist all). I didn't see a single item this kid was wearing that would cost less than 30 million gold.

Not to sound like a dick, but... welcome to Diablo? The absence of a RMAH didn't stop people in D2 from spending $$$ on gear, not sure why you would expect anything else from "legit" play in D3.

I don't know, I just found it really irritating to hear someone who blatantly bought every item they are wearing with real-life money talk about how the game was too easy, and that everyone else was simply bad. While I played Diablo 2 (mostly offline), this is the first time I have experienced true "pay to win." I played Combat Arms extensively, and League of Legends. While both have paid features, there was no true "pay to win." Similarly with Warcraft. You could have the most gold in the game, but you will never buy most raid items with it.

I just heard a kid in General chat talking about how easy the game was, and how they were nerfing it because everyone else was bad. I viewed his profile, and sure enough he had a full clear of Inferno as a Barbarian. I felt it a bid odd that he only had 120 hours of "time played," and only 1.5 million gold collected. I decided to inspect him, and that is when I realized that he is wearing nearly 100 million gold worth of items.

Call me crazy, but I some how doubt that this guy got his insane gear (talking perfect Legendaries in every slot) by playing legit. If this is a sign of what the future holds after the Real Money Auction House goes live, this game may be hard to take seriously. Especially from a PVP standpoint.

Fuck act 2, no farming should be done in act 2

Unless you are an average geared melee.. but then again, Act 1 would probably still be better farming because it's more efficient. lol :-\ IDK.

I got tired of everyone calling me softcore, so I sat down and just played through the game on Hardcore setting. I didn't die one time, and from what I can see the mobs are actually easier than in Inferno.

I noticed that my friend was online at an unusually odds hour, so I messaged him:

When he didn't respond I got bored and decided to inspect him, and that is when I noticed that he is completely naked. Man, is he going to wake up angry this morning or what? Since it's the weekend I'm guessing he wont get his account rolled back until at least Monday. I'll post his response to this when I can, I already posted this screenshot on his facebook wall. lol.

posted a message on What is the recommended LoH / Attacks-per-Second for Inferno Monks?
I've never used LoH / IAS, and am interested in giving it a shot as I have some extra gold sitting around. What is the number of LoH and attacks-per-second that most monks feel is mandatory?

I got a weapon that is 900+ Life on Hit, but it's slower than pond water (0.95). From what I understand I need 1.95 attacks-per-second, but how much LoH is sufficient for that rate of fire?

Also did you have to sacrifice some resists to get LoH / IAS Jewelry - and is that acceptable?

I think alot of skills that we find useless now will be beyond useful in arena.

Now that you mention it, I could see Dashing Strike being pretty useful in the Arenas for a gap closer (a skill I haven't used for nearly 30 levels).
