Oct 11, 2008Palisade posted a message on Character Stat AssigningIf it's removed it should be replaced with something better, because the stat point system is flawed. With the new rune mechanic you can now customize the way a skill works. It certaintly looked more interesting than a stat point system but unless they put some serious depth into that, it probably won't be enough to fill the void that removing stat points would create.Posted in: News

Jul 10, 2008Palisade posted a message on Diablo 3 Items and InventoryWhy does everything ultimately get compared to WoW at the end of the Day? You people have made WoW a god and the ultimate medium to which all other rpg games must get compared to. It's funny because when LotRO was first revealed everyone was like "Omg, a horrible WoW rip-off". With Warhammer Online everyone's first opinion is "Wtf!!? a crappy WoW clone." now with Diablo 3 it's the same "This is DiabloCraft III!!!" A Developer nowadays can't make a game without fans comparing it to WoW. It's a shame, really. If it's not extreme pitch-black darkness of colorless, vile, barf-eating barf, then it's goes back to being WoW by default. The barb's shoulder plates conceptually have to be big. He doesn't wear a chest-plate, so his shoulder pad's are abnormally big to compensate and protect his torso. But no-one's realized that. The first observation is....of course... WOW!Posted in: News

Jul 10, 2008Palisade posted a message on WWI - Diablo III Concept ArtPlease realize that these people have to present new material. I promise you that more of the same will only get boring faster, due to an overly-familiar atmosphere. Sorry, but Diablo 1&2: The Remake really isn't what I expect Diablo III to be. Yes, the original Diablo was fun, and you remember and cherish that game as well as what you though made the game good.Posted in: News
Diablo 1 was good for it's time and a fresh experience. Again, please realize that these people have to present new scenarios', varying atmospheres' and un-anticipated takes on the world of sanctuary, in order to expand upon the Diablo universe and make Diablo 3 a better game. Also take into account that Diablo isn't a survival-horror game in the first place. Stop trying to push this game back into the past. Let's see what atmospheres' the older Diablo games offered:
Diablo 1:
*Static weather, an un-changing atmosphere, gothic scenery-spam and a single dungeon. (hmmmnn...revolutionary for it's time, but it wouldn't really work for the up-to-date gamer would it?)
Diablo 2:
*Attempts to offer more environments, more scenery options. Does a good job of doing so, focuses more on action and gameplay elements, combat is sped-up, goes on to become more popular than the original Diablo itself. (sound's alot like what's being attempted with Diablo 3 doesn't it? lets have a look.)
Diablo 3:
*Attempts to offer even more to the Diablo universe, new atmospheres, fresh ideas, re-vamped health system (potions were NOT removed) that allows for more fighting and less pot-spamming, towering 3-story bosses, havok physics system, destructible environments, combat is sped-up, even attempts to further in-corporate different cultures into the character designs......and the result =
angry petitioners, hatred for attempting to implement new ideas, hyperbole on the negatives, angry mobs with pitch-forks, so-called "hard-core Diablo fans" focusing purely on the negatives of the 2 level demonstration.
Wow, pardon Blizzard for actually attempting to offer something that isn't just a remake with better graphics, pardon them for offering something a little different.
"How dare them! As if they own Diablo or something! Diablo is not what they say it is! It's what I say it is! What they showed was not Diablo! By "Diablo 3" I was expecting a re-make, not an actual sequel with variety and different atmospheres. WHERES MY RE-MAKE!!?" - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Thats just poor skill design. I doubt they would make 2 seperate skills that identical, regardless of skill amount. 7 characters with 30 skills each, or 5 with 40 each?

It would depend on how many expansion packs they intend on making. If we're only getting one expansion then I doubt they'd bring out the final content that early. We'll most likely get an expansion a full year away from initial release. As for classes, I expect the ones in D3 to have at least 40 skills each, compared to only 30 in D2. Maybe even more than 40. Less classes = more skills for each class.

Attacking the masterpiece franchise Zelda is equivalent to E-suicide.
*Edit*
I swapped my Zelda link for a more rugged boss battle. Now are you happy, Corwyn?

Wrong. The average age for a gamer is about 30.

Don't say things like that. You'll make yourself look really ignorant. They mean gameplay mechanics not how bosses look. Neither WoW or Zelda are mere childrens games, hence they are among the most successful games in the industry and for the record, most gamers are adults.

Diablo 2 was kinda lacking in the boss-fight department.

You can still do that. Well, you could never stab enemies in the throat, but I get your point. Hammer of the ancients for example. This skill is designed to do massive damage to one targeted opponent. Anyone in the immediate surroundings will be hurt from the shockwave, but only slightly. They won't recieve that massive damage done to the enemy you specifically targeted. (It has to be that way because this move would otherwise be pointless because of cleave or vice-versa.)
Charge as well, was used to single-out and attack specific targets to do massive damage, but the same physics apply. "you get in the way, you get hit too, even if I didn't target you." again its not real AoE. Its a 3D melee system that hits people who were in the position to get hit. The move wont phase-through or skip over opponents just because you didn't specifically target them, even though they were in the line of fire. That doesnt mean some moves wont be single-target only though.
*Edit
Go play Zelda:tp and lock-on to one goblin standing inside a group of goblins and use your jump attack (a skill meant to do massive damage to one person.) If the other goblins are too close they will get hit too. Even though you specifically targeted only one goblin, all were hit for being too close. 3-dimensional physics.
For mandatory single-target hits, they would have to program the move to negate these physics and to always do damage to 1 person, no matter what. This may be used for really big-hit skills that wouldn't be fair if they could hit adjacents at all.

Alot of that would depend on how big the mobs are in this game. They would have to proportion the skill sizes to combat whatever size mobs they intend to create, but from what I saw, im not too worried. The proportions looked right as he did fight at least 40 ghouls rushing him simultaneously, as soon as he walked through the dungeon door.

Yeah....notice how Titan Quest wasn't even as good as Diablo 1. Titan quest had no point for 3D graphics other than looks. Age of Conan?
1.) Age of Conan is an mmo played from a "behind the back" camera view. Diablo is isometric and is not an mmo.
2.) Don't try to pin this onto Age of Conan. AoC is hardly the first game to use 3D combat physics. (Devil May Cry, God of War, Oblivion, Plus 1,000,000 others.)
Blizzard made no mention or showed no signs of this combat system you speak of.
*Edit
I think its really because a 3D world allows for a larger range of motions than a 2D one. A 3D character can swing his weapon in real time and hit multiple approaching opponents in real time, its more realisic and practical. That doesnt mean the move is meant to be an AoE skill. It just works like a real swing and with a real swing, anyone who is in the way will be hit.

Yeah but I always thought of this change to be an ordinary change from 2D to 3D.
Those melee skills from Diablo 2 are pre-programmed to always hit 1 person because the game is 2D and will run more smoothly that way. However Diablo 3 is in fact 3D and will have a more advanced 3D combat system. Meaning if the enemy is in close enough to get sliced, he will be sliced.
Standard meele attacks still seem to only hit one foe at a time though.
Its not real aoe. Its proper 3D physics.

Sorry, I dont quite understand the point of this thread.
If I swiped a blade across the area in front of me and 2 people were standing side by side in front of me, wouldn't they both get cut?
Cleave is a cleave. Anyone in front of the cleave will be cut.
Its not true aoe. Cleave's swing arc can still be focused primarily at one enemy.
I dont fully understand what the OP is getting at....

Congrats.
I find it equally silly to pull an endless supply of wolves out of thin air. (druid)
Diablo is a fantasy world with magic.

How about everyone actually pay attention to the fact that blizzard has already taken in fan-feedback from both sides of the argument.
I doubt blizzard will say "hmmmn, lets choose the petitioners over everyone else and make the game exactly as they say."
Nor will blizzard say "You know what? Lets completely ignore all of the petitioners."
The final product will naturally be a more gritty, graphically polished game. It should also be a game full of bright and vibrant locations for variety, but now blizzard will make sure they don't forget to implement the dark, gritty, gothic enviornments that the petitioners want.
The end result should be an artistically balanced game with a multitude of enviornments. More variety, ranging from bright vibrant fields down into the grittiest, bloodsoaked gothic dungeons. Maybe some dungeons will naturally be brighter than others and some outdoor fields may naturally be darker than others.
That is what you should look forward to in Diablo 3

 Correct me if im wrong, but didn't blizzard have the wisdom to cancel that game a long time ago.
And what in the world does a completely different project, about a completely different IP have to do with Diablo?
