    Diablo 1. Butcher.

But no, Diablo is not a scary series of games. They are a gothic series of games. There is a difference.

I think that was pretty much what sandman was trying to say. That gothic doesn't = scary.

Personally, I think a desaturated environment begins to bore, if it doesn't make you afraid to play.

Btw, I lol'd when I first saw the butcher in Diablo 1.

Didnt the necro have a bone sheild? well i really hope that the witch docter has a corpse sheild with body parts flying around. Also maybe he can use it to summon mongrals and stuff but it takes away the % of the sheild .

Also maybe it attacks that makes me pee.. ahahah

Nah, WD doesn't = Necro, with flesh spells instead of bone.

No need for anymore copy-cat skills.

Isn't that a regular enemy in all 3 Diablo's? You know, the weak half-beast demons that you kill hordes of, all the time. I believe they're called "khazra" in Diablo and are very in-capable.

I personally like how the WD made them fight each-other then blew them to bits with firebomb.

Was this just a joke, so that you could have the lulz?

posted a message on Does 1/1 Really equal 20/20??
Diablo 2 had skills that are useful in the beggining, but are horrible later on in the game. Skills that no-one would ever max anyway. (lvl 20 barb pole-axe mastery anyone?) It all depends on how many skills are available. Remember, you will be using a higher number of skills at once in D3, thanks to the hot-bar.

Charge could be a one-pointer skill that you throw in just to close distance quickly (good against running enemies, dark cultists, bosses, etc.) After that, adding extra points would just be a bland point-sink, because charge will get stronger when your character's atk rises anyway.
Instead, why not begin choosing a new skill that fits your character build and begin putting points into that.

The old system will lead to builds like "Hammerdins" and "smiters" where ppl just spam the same maxed skill over and over and over.

Now it will be more about choosing good skill combinations. Instead of targeting a classes 3 cheapest skills and maxing them.

I think bringing the barb back is good for the story and plot. You feel like you really transitioned from the previous game to the next. Not like it's a totally different plot/story-line with all new characters. Technically the barb did already fight Diablo once, right? (with the rest of the other heroes from D2.) So I wonder If Diablo will recognize you if you fight him as the barb in D3.

Although you do have to give up a perfectly good character space to bring him back. As long as they don't bring back more than 2 old characters im fine.

sorry guys, i know this has been posted before, but i cant find it as i believe they disappear (or I'm stupid). I was just curious about some of the skills and i was hoping for a close up of the witch doctors skill, soul harvest.

Does this skill worry anyone else? i mean so many of the skills are VERY powerful in the trailer and tear through the enemies, but this one just kills all of them and gives you life (or mana idk), but i would assume its only certain enemies.

I would assume that it doesn't instantly kill, but does damage. It should only give life or Mana when you use it to finish off wounded enemies or enemies already weak enough to be killed by it.

actually there seems to be 2 "comets" or something like that. we know one landed in tristram, but what about the thing that landed near arreat? watch the teaser and see those two guards and that gigantic crater thing? what is that?

Maybe its the crater caused by the destruction of the World Stone.

    **Edit**

I agree about the comet. I don't think the one in Tristram is an actual comet. What significance would a big rock have? It's either tyrael or imperius.

If you don't like DI you either don't like the genre or have really bad analysis.

Whether a game scares you or not depends dominantly on yourself.

Its not that I think the game is bad. Its just that I missed the time period in which I would have most enjoyed the game. Theres no doubt that D1 was more original and revolutionary for its time.

I actually experienced the Diablo franchise backwards.

I beat D1 only after beating D2. When I went from D2 to D1 it felt horrible. Diablo 1 felt like a horrible game upon playing (I had even beaten Act 5 before beating D1.) And no. Neither of the Diablo games were scary to me at all. I always focus on kicking #$$.

Not that the games had bad atmospheres. They had very good atmospheres, just not scary ones.

Nah blizzard i smarter than that... Less skills, but more useful/interesting ones. That's how I'd like it anyway, I mean most classes just had skills that no one would ever use, well at least max, which is why I love the enw 1,5,10,20 system instead of all 20

So you want less skills and less skill maxes. Imagine 30 skills and 10 of them max at level 5. The other 10 max out at level 10. Where are 99+ skill points gonna go?

This will lead to one build per class and everyone using the same skills

Thing is, none of this is new. It's old ideas, present in many games, except not present in DII. That's why I said, they need to start using Red Rain. Skills from other games.

Thats the whole point: Its not in D2. The form in which I presented these Ideas is new. Not the basic concept itself. I put my own unique twist on it. Find a game In which these moves are used exactly this way.

Plus these were 5 min skills. If I wanted to think about it for days on-end they would be even better.

    Here:

    New Witch-Doctor skills:

    Soul Trance:
The witch doctor goes into a trance increasing his overall intelligence and mana at the price of decreased movement speed. (Animation: the witch doctor has a slight glow around his body. He also stumbles and moves around with a more possesed walk/run animation.)

    Envigorating Tonic:
The witch doctor creates a potion (at the price of mana consumption) that increases Meele attack damage and movement speed. Potions created can be given to other players in your party as well. (Animation: a slight after-image behind the character who drinks the potion when running.)

    New Barbarian skills:

    Withstand and Repel:

Activating this skill causes the barbarian to instantly drop his guard taking a vunerable combat position. Defense in this position is dropped (% chance blocking is still allowed and the move will proceed if you chance block.) If hit in this position, the barbarian will instantly counter-attack by doing a large horizontal slice attack. At higher levels he will spin instead (mini immobile whirlwind, but animated differently.) doing damage to surrounding mobs.

I did this in like 5 minutes. Imagine what can be done in a year.

They are recycling old ideas over and over for the past few years. As far as I am concerned, they are, indeed, out of ideas. All they can do is mix them up or try to steal from more games and stuff. But as far as ideas go, the gaming market is done. They need to start stealking Red Rain.

I think 40 is going too far because DII already had about, what, 30? And they were copies of each other with different special effects. There's only so many skills you can make up. I may at most expect them to make 30 skills per character + make them detailed. Not 40... That's just huge.

Well, if there were no new Ideas people would just stop making games altogether. Every game would be very similar, but this is not the case.

Give me a week and other games to study and I could come up with 40 very different skills for 5 classes. There are only 5 after-all. This game should give more, not less options for character builds.

Poor skill design comes from running out of ideas. ;) The more detailed each skill is, the less of them would be there.

They do need to use the Red Rain skill though.

Who's to say when they will run out of ideas for skills?

Of course there is a limit but the more creative your Ideas are, the more skills you can have that are detailed. I don't think 40 skills each is going too far. There will be more builds for each class if you add more skills.

I don't want 10 super detailed skills, with only 1 good build.
    :(
