Im all for it. So long as my preferred weapon of choice does terrible, terrible damage!

Oct 11, 2008Palisade posted a message on Character Stat AssigningIf it's removed it should be replaced with something better, because the stat point system is flawed. With the new rune mechanic you can now customize the way a skill works. It certaintly looked more interesting than a stat point system but unless they put some serious depth into that, it probably won't be enough to fill the void that removing stat points would create.Posted in: News

Jul 10, 2008Palisade posted a message on Diablo 3 Items and InventoryWhy does everything ultimately get compared to WoW at the end of the Day? You people have made WoW a god and the ultimate medium to which all other rpg games must get compared to. It's funny because when LotRO was first revealed everyone was like "Omg, a horrible WoW rip-off". With Warhammer Online everyone's first opinion is "Wtf!!? a crappy WoW clone." now with Diablo 3 it's the same "This is DiabloCraft III!!!" A Developer nowadays can't make a game without fans comparing it to WoW. It's a shame, really. If it's not extreme pitch-black darkness of colorless, vile, barf-eating barf, then it's goes back to being WoW by default. The barb's shoulder plates conceptually have to be big. He doesn't wear a chest-plate, so his shoulder pad's are abnormally big to compensate and protect his torso. But no-one's realized that. The first observation is....of course... WOW!Posted in: News

Jul 10, 2008Palisade posted a message on WWI - Diablo III Concept ArtPlease realize that these people have to present new material. I promise you that more of the same will only get boring faster, due to an overly-familiar atmosphere. Sorry, but Diablo 1&2: The Remake really isn't what I expect Diablo III to be. Yes, the original Diablo was fun, and you remember and cherish that game as well as what you though made the game good.Posted in: News
Diablo 1 was good for it's time and a fresh experience. Again, please realize that these people have to present new scenarios', varying atmospheres' and un-anticipated takes on the world of sanctuary, in order to expand upon the Diablo universe and make Diablo 3 a better game. Also take into account that Diablo isn't a survival-horror game in the first place. Stop trying to push this game back into the past. Let's see what atmospheres' the older Diablo games offered:
Diablo 1:
*Static weather, an un-changing atmosphere, gothic scenery-spam and a single dungeon. (hmmmnn...revolutionary for it's time, but it wouldn't really work for the up-to-date gamer would it?)
Diablo 2:
*Attempts to offer more environments, more scenery options. Does a good job of doing so, focuses more on action and gameplay elements, combat is sped-up, goes on to become more popular than the original Diablo itself. (sound's alot like what's being attempted with Diablo 3 doesn't it? lets have a look.)
Diablo 3:
*Attempts to offer even more to the Diablo universe, new atmospheres, fresh ideas, re-vamped health system (potions were NOT removed) that allows for more fighting and less pot-spamming, towering 3-story bosses, havok physics system, destructible environments, combat is sped-up, even attempts to further in-corporate different cultures into the character designs......and the result =
angry petitioners, hatred for attempting to implement new ideas, hyperbole on the negatives, angry mobs with pitch-forks, so-called "hard-core Diablo fans" focusing purely on the negatives of the 2 level demonstration.
Wow, pardon Blizzard for actually attempting to offer something that isn't just a remake with better graphics, pardon them for offering something a little different.
"How dare them! As if they own Diablo or something! Diablo is not what they say it is! It's what I say it is! What they showed was not Diablo! By "Diablo 3" I was expecting a re-make, not an actual sequel with variety and different atmospheres. WHERES MY RE-MAKE!!?" - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I think that was pretty much what sandman was trying to say. That gothic doesn't = scary.
Personally, I think a desaturated environment begins to bore, if it doesn't make you afraid to play.
Btw, I lol'd when I first saw the butcher in Diablo 1.

Nah, WD doesn't = Necro, with flesh spells instead of bone.
No need for anymore copy-cat skills.

I personally like how the WD made them fight each-other then blew them to bits with firebomb.
Was this just a joke, so that you could have the lulz?

...And
Paranoid WoW-hate fanatic.
Skills:
"Omfg this game is (Insert title) WoW edition."
Harshly crtiques game before ever playing and destroys your game disk.

Charge could be a one-pointer skill that you throw in just to close distance quickly (good against running enemies, dark cultists, bosses, etc.) After that, adding extra points would just be a bland point-sink, because charge will get stronger when your character's atk rises anyway.
Instead, why not begin choosing a new skill that fits your character build and begin putting points into that.
The old system will lead to builds like "Hammerdins" and "smiters" where ppl just spam the same maxed skill over and over and over.
Now it will be more about choosing good skill combinations. Instead of targeting a classes 3 cheapest skills and maxing them.

Although you do have to give up a perfectly good character space to bring him back. As long as they don't bring back more than 2 old characters im fine.

I would assume that it doesn't instantly kill, but does damage. It should only give life or Mana when you use it to finish off wounded enemies or enemies already weak enough to be killed by it.

Maybe its the crater caused by the destruction of the World Stone.
**Edit**
I agree about the comet. I don't think the one in Tristram is an actual comet. What significance would a big rock have? It's either tyrael or imperius.

Its not that I think the game is bad. Its just that I missed the time period in which I would have most enjoyed the game. Theres no doubt that D1 was more original and revolutionary for its time.

I beat D1 only after beating D2. When I went from D2 to D1 it felt horrible. Diablo 1 felt like a horrible game upon playing (I had even beaten Act 5 before beating D1.) And no. Neither of the Diablo games were scary to me at all. I always focus on kicking #$$.
Not that the games had bad atmospheres. They had very good atmospheres, just not scary ones.

So you want less skills and less skill maxes. Imagine 30 skills and 10 of them max at level 5. The other 10 max out at level 10. Where are 99+ skill points gonna go?
This will lead to one build per class and everyone using the same skills

Thats the whole point: Its not in D2. The form in which I presented these Ideas is new. Not the basic concept itself. I put my own unique twist on it. Find a game In which these moves are used exactly this way.
Plus these were 5 min skills. If I wanted to think about it for days on-end they would be even better.

New Witch-Doctor skills:
Soul Trance:
The witch doctor goes into a trance increasing his overall intelligence and mana at the price of decreased movement speed. (Animation: the witch doctor has a slight glow around his body. He also stumbles and moves around with a more possesed walk/run animation.)
Envigorating Tonic:
The witch doctor creates a potion (at the price of mana consumption) that increases Meele attack damage and movement speed. Potions created can be given to other players in your party as well. (Animation: a slight after-image behind the character who drinks the potion when running.)
New Barbarian skills:
Withstand and Repel:
Activating this skill causes the barbarian to instantly drop his guard taking a vunerable combat position. Defense in this position is dropped (% chance blocking is still allowed and the move will proceed if you chance block.) If hit in this position, the barbarian will instantly counter-attack by doing a large horizontal slice attack. At higher levels he will spin instead (mini immobile whirlwind, but animated differently.) doing damage to surrounding mobs.
I did this in like 5 minutes. Imagine what can be done in a year.

Well, if there were no new Ideas people would just stop making games altogether. Every game would be very similar, but this is not the case.
Give me a week and other games to study and I could come up with 40 very different skills for 5 classes. There are only 5 after-all. This game should give more, not less options for character builds.

Who's to say when they will run out of ideas for skills?
Of course there is a limit but the more creative your Ideas are, the more skills you can have that are detailed. I don't think 40 skills each is going too far. There will be more builds for each class if you add more skills.
I don't want 10 super detailed skills, with only 1 good build.
