    PTR Focus & Details

We’ll be conducting the Patch 2.6.9 PTR over the course of two weeks, starting Thursday, May 28. During this time there may be periodic maintenances, outages, hotfixes, or minor patches.

There will be two PTR-unique buffs active to help you on your journey: increased Legendary drop rate and double Blood Shard drops. You can also buy new gear for testing from the special PTR vendor, Djank Mi'em, who will exchange Blood Shards for class-specific bags full of Legendary items that we'd love for you to test!

To ensure that the most significant changes receive an ample amount of attention, we'd love for you to focus testing and feedback on the new Demon Hunter and Necromancer sets, Necromancer Skill changes, and the Legendary item changes.

So that we can efficiently review your posts, feedback should be provided in the PTR Feedback forum while bug reports should be provided in the PTR Bug Report forum

    PTR Testing Tips

As with our previous PTRs, this testing period is short, so it's best to hit the ground running. Whether you’re a PTR veteran or newcomer, we thought we’d pass along a few tips to get you started.

    • Because of the limited duration of this PTR, we ask that participants pick a particular portion of this update to focus on testing.
      • For example, if you’re primarily a Wizard player, consider what changes impact the Wizard specifically. What you like best, what you think may still need adjustment, and what you’d want to see in the future (even if that may be beyond the scope of this patch) are all good questions to ask yourself.
    • Prior to the start of PTR, consider stocking up on items like Puzzle Rings and Bovine Bardiches. Having these available after you import your character can make any necessary PTR farming much faster!
    • Try to break things! Just tell us when you do so we can make sure that the patch launch is as smooth as possible.
    • When providing feedback, focus less on a solution and more on your experience. How did the changes make you feel? Was there something “off” that you noticed? Did something seem wrong or insufficient? Suggestions are always welcome but identifying the issues themselves is most important.

    Patch Notes

Below you will find the patch notes for the upcoming update for Diablo III, Patch 2.6.9.

    PATCH 2.6.9

    Table of Contents:

Note: All changes apply to all versions of Diablo III, including PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC unless otherwise indicated. Please note that PTR is only available for PC and Mac users.

    Seasons

Developer's Note: We’ve received a lot of feedback regarding the seasonal theme being difficult to track and that it sometimes didn’t feel like it was appearing or doing much to gameplay. We are adjusting the following:

    • The elemental power will now occur every 90 seconds, down from 120 seconds.
    • We have added in a buff to this effect to help better track it.
    • Firewalls will now start at the caster and will become stationary once they hit a wall. Firewalls before were sometimes not appearing with the caster.
    • Meteors will now track players and not stay at the initial location.  We have also decreased the intervals between meteors.
    • Damage has been slightly buffed for multiplayer.
    • NOTE: We’ve also just found out about the season effects proccing Area Damage. This will eventually be fixed but did not make it into the PTR build.

    • The elements have deemed you worthy. With you as their champion, the burning hells will face the Trials of Tempests!
      • Your character will occasionally (every 2 minutes 90 seconds) channel an elemental power which unleashes into the environment for a limited time:
        • Meteors rain from the skies around you.
        • Breathe lightning.
        • A wall of flame engulfs everything.
        • Release twisters of pure energy.
        • Crush your foes under the weight of rolling snowballs.
    • Two unique new rewards, a portrait frame and a pet, will be granted to players who complete the Season 21 Journey.

    Items

    Demon Hunter

    • New Demon Hunter Set: Gears of Dreadlands

Developer's Note: We’ve adjusted the 2-Piece Bonus to address the Momentum and damage feedback from players. Momentum will now be a singular buff that affects all Primary skills. You will now be able to use multiple generators without losing the Momentum bonus when alternating between them. The 2-piece bonus will now also give 4 seconds per Primary attack, up to a maximum of 20 seconds. Momentum will also now be applied immediately when using a Primary Skill, instead of when it hits a target. These changes should help with damage output and allow for an easier time when building and maintaining Momentum.

      • 2-Piece Bonus
        • Gain a Momentum stack when attacking with a Primary skill. Each Momentum stack lasts 2 seconds at a maximum duration of 10 seconds. Your Primary skills deal 10% more damage per stack of Momentum. Gain 4 seconds of Momentum when attacking with a Primary skill, at a maximum of 20 seconds. Your Primary skills deal 10% increased damage per second of Momentum.

Developer's Note: We’ve fixed a few issues on the 4-Piece Bonus. Players will now be able to proc bonuses and other powers such as Simplicity’s Strength’s healing bonus from their Primary skills coming from Strafe. You will now also be able to Strafe forever while shooting Primary abilities as you will no longer need Momentum for Strafe to fire off the last used Primary skill. Lastly, we’ve fixed an issue where Hungering Arrow was not piercing correctly when used with Strafe so players will be able to use this with the 4-Piece Bonus reliably.

    • 4-Piece Bonus
      • Casting Strafe against enemies will automatically shoot your last used primary skill, and also give 60% damage reduction while strafing and for 5 seconds after. While Strafing, you move faster per stack of Momentum gain 8% increased movement speed for each second of Momentum.

      • 6-Piece Bonus
        • Your Bone Spear deals 10,000% increased damage. Simulacrums gain triple this bonus.
    • Grasps of Essence
      • When an exploded corpse damages at least one enemy, Your Corpse Explosion deals 75-100% 150-200% increased damage for 6 seconds, stacking up to 5 times.

    • Mantle of Channeling
      • Now works with the Necromancer's Siphon Blood.
    • Convention of Elements
      • Added "non-static" to the wording of the legendary power's description. The functionality is unchanged

    Skill Changes

    • Necromancer
Developer's Note: We’ve adjusted some non-intended behaviors with Simulacrum while also addressing the frustration of them getting split off from the Necromancer at times.
      • Simulacrum

        • These will now warp to the Necromancer if they begin to move too far away from the player. This onl works if the Necromancer is wearing the Masquerade of the Burning Carnival set or Haunted Visions.

        • Simulacrums cannot use Grim Scythe (with Haunted Visions) or Skeletal Mage unless the Necromancer had either of those abilities while the Simulacrums were created.

      • Final Service

        • No longer consumes pets.

        • Final Service now activates before Simulacrum's Self Sacrifice.

        • Damage increased from 350% to 1050%.
    • Witch Doctor
      • Spirit Barrage

    Bug Fixes

    • General
      • Fixed a rare issue where players could enter a locked party and become unable to enter games or change game settings
    • Necromancer
      • Fixed an issue where Skeletal Mages were not attacking certain creatures

    How to Participate

To participate in the public test, you must have a Diablo III game license attached to a Battle.net account in good standing (i.e. one that hasn't been suspended or banned). In addition, you will also need to download and install the Blizzard Battle.net desktop app if you have not already done so.

Step 1: Restart the Battle.net desktop app.

Step 2: Navigate to the Diablo III tab on the left-hand menu.

Step 3: On the Diablo III screen, there is a drop-down menu right above the "Play" button (note that this may say "Install" if you do not have Diablo III currently installed). Select "PTR: Diablo III" from this drop-down menu before proceeding.

Step 4: Click Install to begin the installation process.

Your PTR account will be created automatically if you do not already have one. The PTR is available in all supported languages, and accounts from all regions are eligible to participate. For additional assistance with installing and launching the PTR, click here.

    PTR Character Copy

The option to copy your existing Diablo III characters from your live account to the PTR will be available and can be done directly through the PTR client. However, only one region per account can be copied at a time. So, if you choose to copy characters from your account in a different region, any previously copied PTR characters will be lost.

Step 1: Log into the live game and then log out.

Step 2: Log into PTR client and create a level 1 character. After you're done, return to the main character screen.

Step 3: Click on the "PTR Copy" button located in the upper right-hand corner. (The PTR Copy button will not appear in-game until you have created a new level 1 character.)

    Step 4: Select your region.

Step 5: Click "Copy." This will copy all characters on your account from the selected region.

Step 6: You will be disconnected from the PTR client.

Step 7: Log back in. Your copied characters will be available for play.

Please note that you can only copy characters from one gameplay region at a time. If you choose to copy characters from a different region, any previously copied PTR characters will be lost. In addition, you can only copy characters over to your PTR account once every 24 hours. Attempting to copy characters before this cooldown is up will result in an error.

As this is a test server, please anticipate uneven game performance, and note that restarts and downtime may occur without warning. Thank you, and we look forward to your feedback!

    An Update On BlizzCon 2020

BlizzCon 2020 has officially been canceled. Saralyn Smith, Executive Producer of BlizzCon, released a blog post which you can read below detailing the cancellation, and also the possibility of some kind of digital event to take its place this year. The cancellation comes in light of the current global pandemic.

    Hello Blizzard community,

Several weeks ago, I shared an update about our uncertainty around holding BlizzCon this year. Since then, a lot has changed . . . and a lot also hasn’t changed. During this time, we’ve had many discussions about what holding a convention could look like in light of all the health and safety considerations we’d want to make. We’ve also talked about different paths we could take, and how each one could be complicated by fluctuations in national and local health guidelines in the months ahead. Ultimately, after considering our options, we’ve come to the very difficult decision to not have BlizzCon this year.

We’re feeling deeply disappointed about this decision, and imagine many of you will feel the same. I truly love BlizzCon, and I know that’s a sentiment shared by everyone at Blizzard. We will sorely miss connecting with so many of you at the convention and “recharging our geek batteries” this fall.

    But we will meet again!

We’re talking about how we might be able to channel the BlizzCon spirit and connect with you in some way online, far less impacted by the state of health and safety protocols for mass in-person gatherings. We’d want to do this as soon as we could, but given that this is new-ish territory and the different factors involved, it will most likely be sometime early next year. BlizzCon is also a stage for big esports events in Blizzard games each year, so we’re also looking into alternatives for supporting some of the high-level competition that would normally take place at the show.

We’ll tell you more about our plans as they develop—but in the meantime, we hope to see you exploring the Shadowlands, hanging out in the Tavern, pushing the payload (do it!), and wherever else in the Blizzard universes you may roam.

    Stay safe and stay well,

Rumor - Diablo 2: Resurrected Coming Later This Year

There is a rumor circulating the internet that a potential Diablo 2 remaster is slated to arrive later this year. This rumor originates from sources which are cited by Actugaming, a French gaming website. Because of the nature of this rumor, everything should certainly be taken with a grain of salt, but it's worth mentioning that Actugaming's editor predicted the Shadowlands, Overwatch 2, and Diablo 4 announcements before BlizzCon last year.

The report states that Vicarious Visions, a subsidiary of Activision, is working on the remaster. Vicarious Visions' recent work has been on porting the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Destiny 2 to PC, so it stands to reason that working on a remaster is well within their skill-set; however, Blizzard already has an internal team working on their older titles called the Blizzard's Classic Games division. This team has been tasked with working on restoring and remastering the classic Blizzard titles, such as StarCraft: Remastered and Warcraft III: Reforged. The Classic Games division has also been responsible for supporting Diablo III with ongoing updates for some time now.

It would not be unheard of for Blizzard to outsource work on a remastered project, as they did with Lemonsky Studios for the art production of Warcraft III: Reforged, and it's possible that the Classic Games team has outsourced work on Diablo 2: Resurrected to Vicarious Visions in an attempt to speed up production. There have been rumblings of a possible Diablo 2 remaster for many years, but most of that hype has been generated by fans who wish to experience the classic game with modern graphics. David Brevik, one of the designers responsible for creating Diablo and Diablo 2, suggested in a Diabloii.net interview a few years back that Blizzard would "have their work cut out for them" and that he doesn't believe many of the assets survived when asked about the likelihood of a Diablo 2 remaster. This doesn't mean that the project would be impossible to complete, but suggests that it would be a challenging undertaking for those involved.

This report also suggests that Diablo 2: Resurrected would be releasing in Q4 of this year, the same quarter that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is set to release. Releasing two games in the same quarter isn't unheard of, especially from two separate teams within Blizzard, but a Q4 2020 release seems unlikely for various other reasons. Warcraft III: Reforged was met with extensive disappointment from fans when it launched due to excessive bugs, inconsistencies in art quality, and the roll-back of plans to remaster many of the old in-game cinematics. Blizzard would absolutely want to avoid the same mistakes made with Reforged, especially in regards to a Diablo 2 remaster. Additionally, we've heard nothing official on this potential project at this point, suggesting that the game may be further out than rumored--if it's in development even to begin with.

Realistically speaking, this is currently just a rumor, and while the possibility of Diablo 2: Resurrected is exciting, logic suggests that we keep our hype levels at a minimum until we get an official announcement in the future. If we were getting this game in Q4 of this year, it's likely that we would have heard about it at last year's BlizzCon; however, if Blizzard wanted to give the Diablo IV announcement the spotlight it deserved, it's possible that they would have planned a Diablo 2 remaster announcement around this point in the year. With the current global situation, it's possible that any potential announcement was pushed back even further, which leads us to believe that we won't see a Diablo 2 remaster this year.

There's certainly a lot of excitement around this rumor, so be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments!

      Shadowlands Alpha - Build 34199

    Season 20 Meta-Watch: Solo Barbarian

Several seasons ago, Barbarian players presented extensive focused feedback to Blizzard about the state of the class, and Barbarians have received countless positive changes since then. Season 19 brought powerful changes to the Wrath of the Wastes build, causing the damage increase from the 6-piece set bonus to also affect Rend. Additionally, the Ambo's Pride Mighty Weapon had a new legendary power added which made attacking with Whirlwind also apply Rend, and the total damage of Rend was dealt over 1 second. These changes made the Barbarian become one of the top solo classes of Season 19, so it should be no surprise that Wrath of the Wastes has made a return on the solo leaderboard for Season 20.

Season 20 added the new Horde of the Ninety Savages set for Barbarian with a focus on using Shouts and Frenzy, and many Barbarian players were excited to try something new this season. The power of the new set was unable to match the Wrath of the Wastes set, but it remains a strong option of Barbarian players who do not wish to use Whirlwind. It's possible we will see the Horde of the Ninety Savages on the Season 21 leaderboard, but Barbarian players will need to wait and see if there are any balance tweaks for the set in the next patch.

For now, Wrath of the Wastes remains one of the best builds in the game, and the Season 20 theme allows players to extract even more performance out of the build by utilizing the Focus and Restraint rings with Convention of Elements, Band of Might, and Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac in the cube. At this point in the season, if you're looking to complete your seasonal journey quickly, then Barbarian remains an incredibly strong option.

Double Goblins For The Remainder Of Season 20!

Blizzard has given everyone the double goblin buff for the remainder of Season 20! This announcement comes in conjunction with the 100% additional EXP bonus in World of Warcraft being extended until the Shadowlands pre-patch, on top of a 100% bonus reputation buff starting on April 20th. Since many are stuck inside during the current global situation, this provides plenty of reasons to hop into your favorite Blizzard games to pass the time.

There are a few important details to keep in mind with this effect:

    • This does not affect goblins encountered via Bandit Shrines, Goblin “Rift” packs, or in the Realm of Greed.
    • Duplicate Whimsydale portals created by the Rainbow Goblin will enter the same instance of Whimsydale.
    • The Insufferable Miscreant is not affected by this buff; this is intended.

We are already planning ahead to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, and plan to have a patch out that addresses this on June 9.

If your password exceeds 16 characters following this update, you will be able to log into and play Diablo III through Battle.net, but will not be able to log into Diablo III in-game at the account login screen until June 9 .

Thank you for your patience as we work on a solution. We’ll see you in Sanctuary!

    A Note About BlizzCon

Blizzard posted a quick update about the potential for BlizzCon this year with regards to the global situation, and have come to the conclusion that it's too early to make a call one way or another. This does indicate their desire to do BlizzCon this year, but we may need to wait several months before we hear any more news.

A gaming convention is probably the last thing on most people’s minds right now, and that goes for many of us at Blizzard too. As events around the world announce cancellations, postponements, or shifts to an online format in response to COVID-19, we’re seeing questions about our plans for this year’s BlizzCon and we want to provide a quick update.

We love BlizzCon, and we know many of you share that feeling and look forward to it as an opportunity to get away for a while, meet up with friends, and have a good time. As so many of us have been isolated for multiple weeks now, surrounded and in some cases directly impacted by the ongoing pandemic-related challenges around the world, we’re looking forward to the time when we can see one another again in person and have something to celebrate together.

While we’re all hopeful things will look better later in the year, the bottom line is that at this point it’s too early to know whether BlizzCon 2020 will be feasible. The health of our community, employees, and everyone who helps with the show is our top consideration. It might be a few months before we know for certain if or how we’ll proceed, but as soon as we have a meaningful update, we’ll share it.

We do want to mention that prior to the recent events we had been actively working to finalize our plans and in fact are still doing so, despite the workplace changes we’ve now made at Blizzard. That includes considering a range of scenarios and possibilities, not just in terms of the show, but also regarding what the experience would be for you. We know BlizzCon also involves preparation on your part, so we’ll do our best to provide as much clarity as we can, as quickly as we can.

In the meantime, please be good to one another, stay well, and know that we’re holding everyone impacted by COVID-19 in our thoughts.

Season 20 Meta-Watch: Solo Witch Doctor

Witch Doctors were in desperate need of something new going into Season 20. With many of the main Witch Doctor players switching to different classes for the previous couple seasons, there was a tangible excitement in the air when the Mundunugu's set was revealed. Now that we are several weeks into Season 20, taking a quick glance at the solo Witch Doctor leaderboard in each region will make it clear that the Mundunugu's set has lived up to the hype, and is the overwhelmingly dominate build for the majority of Witch Doctors this season.

The build utilizes the Ring of Royal Grandeur to run the full six piece set bonus of Mundunugu's while also using the three piece set bonus from Captain Crimson's. The damage potential of this solo build is huge, and we will see just how strong it can be when we look at the group meta later this season. There are very few variations of this Mundunugu's build, with most of the variation being present in whether you choose to wear Captain Crimson's pants or boots. This build also does not make use of the seasonal theme for Season 20, meaning that there will be very little power loss once Season 20 is over.

Community Manager Brandy Camel, aka Nevalistis, is leaving Blizzard Entertainment. She explains in her post and on Twitter that this move is not for any ill reason, and she will in fact be joining Wizards of the Coast to be the new Community Manager for Dungeons & Dragons! Brandy has always been a beacon of light to our community, and she will be dearly missed; however, we know that she is undoubtedly the perfect person for the job! From all of us at DiabloFans, we wish Brandy the best of luck with this amazing new opportunity!

March 27, 2020 will be my final day as Diablo Community Manager, and at Blizzard Entertainment. I’m not leaving for any ill reasons; my team here has always been understanding and kind, every developer I’ve had the honor of interacting with has been delightfully passionate, and the decision to leave was ultimately mine alone. I have an opportunity to explore a new and very different adventure, and if you’re curious about that, I’ll share more about it on my personal channels. Sometimes, opportunity presents itself and you just gotta roll the dice.

What I want to focus on is expressing my gratitude to this community. For welcoming me when I stumbled in at the announcement of Reaper of Souls. For making me feel at home as I was trembling on livestream, fighting stage fright while introducing the expansion to the world. For all the smiles, high-fives, hugs, and selfies at conventions (especially BlizzCon). For the absolute conviction and passion for Sanctuary that I see in every player’s post, whether it’s excitement over the latest Season or constructive criticism for your favorite class. Regardless of highs and lows, this is one of the best communities out there, and the heart of it is warm, caring, and filled with people who just want more Diablo.

Thank you for permitting me to be a part of your community. Thank you for reading my weird blogs and tolerating my terrible puns and memes. And thank you for staying awhile to listen. I’ve had an incredible opportunity learn and grow as person that I’ll carry with me the rest of my life, and I can’t wait to delve the depths of the Burning Hells and face down the mother of Sanctuary alongside the rest of you.

Lastly, rest assured that the Diablo community will be left in good hands. I’ve spent a fair amount of my final weeks here preparing to pass the torch to those who will follow in my footsteps and working with the team here to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. You won’t be left unheard or unacknowledged, but please be understanding while the next folks get settled in. We’re all here to battle the demons of Hell together, after all!

I’ll see you in Sanctuary, adventurers.

Demon Hunter Is Hearthstone's 10th Class

    Season 20 Meta-Watch: Solo Wizards

It has now been one week since the start of Season 20, and we are already seeing the meta being shaken up due to the addition of three new class sets. Our meta analysis this week will focus on the Wizard, which was given the new Hydra focused Typhon's Veil set. This new set is widely regarded as the weakest of the three new additions; however, the solo Wizard leaderboard has seen the rise of two different Hydra builds. At this time it's still unclear which build has the most potential, but most players seem to favor the Legacy of Dreams version.

The top represented build on the leaderboards for all three regions is by far the Vyr's Archon Wizard, which is not entirely a surprise seeing as it was the Haedrig's Gift for Wizards this season. Having Vyr's has allowed Wizards to push high solo rifts early, and has proven to be relatively easy to gear for in comparison to the other rising builds. With that said, we expect to see Vyr's slowly drop off the top solo Wizard clears as players are able to find the necessary pieces for one of the two Hydra builds.

The Typhon's Veil Frost Hydra has the potential for an exceptional amount of damage output, but the set tends to be rather fragile. Forgetting to place Hydra's down when entering a new level in a rift can lead to players getting obliterated by enemies before they have a chance to react, and the finicky nature of the sets damage reduction mechanic can lead to a lot of frustration. Players who wish to use Cold damage will find a lot to love with the Typhon's Veil set, and those who master its mechanics can possibly rival the alternative Hydra build.

The Legacy of Dreams Mammoth Hydra build is hard to gear for, as all Legacy of Dreams builds are, seeing as it requires a full set of particular ancient items to be the most effective. On top of that, leveling the Legacy of Dreams gem to 99 is necessary to extract all of the potential performance from the build. The use of Mammoth Hydras provides an exceptional amount of clearing potential for large groups of enemies, and the build doesn't struggle with most Rift Guardians either. The LoD Hydra is also quite a bit more tanky than the Typhon's Veil version, and many players will prefer its playstyle to the the alternative.

It's still too early to say which Wizard build will top the solo leaderboards for Season 20, but at this point there are two fun Hydra builds available for Wizard players who wish to change things up. Vyr's provides a strong start for anyone looking to play Wizard; however, its potential does not quite live up to other potential Wizard builds. It's worth mentioning that Season 20 is still fresh, and the meta for the solo Wizard has the potential to shift greatly in a few weeks time.

Have you been playing the Wizard during Season 20? What build have you been playing and what class would you like us to cover next week? Let us know in the comments!
