Let's not throw too much shit on consoles here, there are some great games out there. Playstation 2 was a great investment with Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid to name a few.Quote fromWell, I hate mobile games and most console games. The best games I know are on PC. The only good console games are sport games. Games like WoW or D3 or even SC2 would s**k on a cellphone or a psp.
I really am thinking what I write...

Of course. What I'm worried about is the fact that they are doing mobile jobs at all. I trust in Blizzards abilities, but cell-phone games aren't too good. In fact, I've yet to see a single good one.Quote from "mrdoom" »Hehe, I dunno, Blizzard could have something cool cookin' up. They tend to be ahead of the game on stuff like this. Still, let's remember that if they're ANNOUNCING a game on May 19 then they've already got staff for it and have in all likelyhood been working on it for a bit. Remember those incredbily conspicuous job postings last year? Don't get too worried guys. These jobs are for some project far down the road -

Yeah. But I think it's about time for a new big RTS. Haven't played a new good RTS in a while.
Supreme Commander would be a good bet too, I would try it but I fear that I would be horrible at it, it seems to be out of my league. Though I don't know for sure.
But regarding the arguments, almost everything has been presented, and I can't think of anything new to add. Too bad I will be gone next weekend, that means I'll miss all of the initial burst of discussion following the announcement -

I've copied and pasted this from Penny arcade he argues for a Starcraft MMO rather than a Starcraft RTS, but notice how he like many other people from the planet earth have used the power of reason that it will be Starcraft related, be it MMO or RTS It will be a huge kick in the balls if it is a MMO game and not RTS.
Those are some good points, and if anything is pressuring Blizzard to continuously shoot out MMO's, it's Vivendi.
Now, he brings up two reasons why it would be a SC MMO.
Reason 1: Creating an MMO shifts the underlying structure and philpsophy of a company, making it less likely for them to leave the MMO genre.
Reason 2: WoW will die, and Blizzard wants to keep their subscribers to give them money, and they would do that through a new MMO.
The second reason holds very true, but not in the present. Contrary to what you might believe from reading the WoW-forums, WoW isn't dying, far from it. It has years to go still, and Blizzard will want to continue to gain alot of money out of it for as small a cost as possible.
If they were to intorduce a new SC MMO on the market, and the could keep WoW players leaving the ship, they could still lose money on the deal. If a player closes one account and opens a new one Blizzard will get the same amount of money, while they will have to host two MMO's. Not to mention the structural difficulties of running two MMO's at the same time.
Of course there's no doubt that a SC MMO would attract different and new people, but I wonder to what extent.
Reason 1 seems much more credible, if it is true. If anyone could add what they know regarding this point I'd appreciate it. -
May 7, 2007PhrozenDragon posted a message on Blizzard hiring Mobile DevelopersI hope this falls into the rumoured 4th and 5th unannounced projects-group, because if this is prioritized above D3/SC2/WoW Expansion 2/[insert PC/Console title here] I don't won't know what to believe anymore.Posted in: News
I hate cell-games, I absolutely despise them. As it stands now they're worthless and I'd much rather spend the time when I would be actually playing them on reading a book instad.
But perhaps Blizzard is what the genre needs. If anyone is to kick life into it, it'd be them -

First, I don't consider Blizzard to be a friend of mine or part of my family, and neither do I think they do.Quote from "gyrextt" »
You rarely tell friends and/or family that you plan to come visit them in the future, but cannot at present.... And already have a trip planned next month. (This is the concept all you Starcraft people say exists which is just senceless.)
Secondly, if I come and visit my family, that means I will stay with them and they have to account for that. They have to accomodate for my living and plan ahead.
In the example Blizzard is the relative coming to visit, and the customer is the family. But that's not how it goes, it goes the other way. Blizzard has the responsibility here to develop the product and hold timelines etc. but the customer has no such obligations. We either buy it or we don't, and Blizzard doesn't have anything to say in that situation. -

Before it was announced. After the announcement that was all people talked about WoW for several months.Quote from "Aibo" »
PhrozenDragon, you don't feel BC wasn't a big fuss? I remember it very well, fucking huge, almost as big as when WoW released. -
May 4, 2007PhrozenDragon posted a message on Blizzard Confirms New Product Next Month!Posted in: News
How the hell do you concoct that from what they said? Thirty days time is nothing in the gaming industry, they would say they don't plan to announce anything to do with SC2 but would magically announce it a month later?
Companies rarely say they aren't creating a product then just say SUPRISE! it's not professional, it's not smart.
First of all, it's not going to be surprise in that sense, because a lot of people are expecting SC2.
Second, it's much more unprofessional to give away the surprise just two weeks prior to the announcement.
It's mother fucking Warcraft, people are asking for a new expansion of WoW. WoW is just growing and growing, there's no reason to stop giving the customers what they want. It is going to be WoW related and that's fucking final! WoW's ride is hardly over.
Blizzard would not have such a fuzz aobut a new expansion, especially not so soon after the first one came out. -
May 3, 2007PhrozenDragon posted a message on Blizzard Confirms New Product Next Month!Blizzards goal with WoW is to make as much money as they can before it dies. Ultima and Everquest, both successful MMO's during their times but not at all on par with WoW's popularity, are still going, and so WoW probably has several years of life expectancy left. Blizzard will not want to lose gamers to other games during this period, especially not to their own franchises.Posted in: News
Thus they will not release a new MMO while WoW is still going strong, for the sole reason that few people have the time to invest in two MMO's, much less the will to pay for two monthly fees.
Would a D3 take players from WoW though? Not in any substantial amount, so long as D3 isn't an MMO. If people aren't required to pay a regular fee for D3, they can buy it and then play it whenever they want, thus they can mix and match with WoW simultaneously.
Secondly, people that would play D3 so much that they wouldn't have time for WoW are a small minority and wouldn't affect Blizzard's current subscribers to any large extent.
Besides, there is no place for logic here.
That is complete nonsense. Logic always applies to all situations. -

That's right, most of the argument here is what game will be announced in Korea, not which game they're working on. It's possible for them to work on both D3 and SC2, but it is unlikely that both will be announced on May, and as such people are split as to whether it is D3 or SC2. Personally I just want to know right now.Quote from "whiteghost21" »
Though i may (alright, am) stating the obvious, people shouldn't get disappointed if SC2 is announced in Korea and not D3 as Blizzard has clearly pointed out that they have more than one project going on unrelated to WoW (*sigh of relief). There is plenty of hope for D3 if it is not announced in May. My top post shows that D3 is definitely(DEFINITELY) not dead. -
May 2, 2007PhrozenDragon posted a message on Blizzard Confirms New Product Next Month!Posted in: News
Of course not, but it certainly gives a hint of what is more likely to happen.Quote from "gyrextt" »Thats fine, but Logic, and Reasoning is not fact.
Ive Stated why it is not valid in previous posts.
People need to keep an open mind.
People need to have an open mind, true, but that does not mean we should weight all implications and reasonings equally. A person with an open mind right now supporting a Starcraft announcement will change sides if the other sides arguments start to weight more heavily. So far though, I can't see that they do. -

What else to you suggest we ride on? I'm only conducting a logical line of reasoning, and how business works has everything to do with it.Quote from "gyrextt" »irrelevant your ideas of how things work at blizzard do not apply. Too Many people are riding on assumptions.
So you say, but I have yet to read your explanation why it isn't valid.Quote from "gyrextt" »
It's For people on either side, you need to realize the "it's goto be starcraft 2 because its being held in korea Idea" has very little validity. -

But you fail to realise how a company works.Quote from "gyrextt" »
THEY DIDNT CHOSE KOREA TO MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT, STARCFRAFT 2 FOR KOREA FANS. that is not how it is. I hate to break it to you starcraft people.
First, they have to analyze what market their games are turned towards. In Korea, where the event is held, Starcraft is their most successful game, with Diablo having much less of a following there compared to in the U.S
Second is publicity. When they throw an event, it needs to present something worthwhile and have everyone on edge. Everything that goes on there will be relayed to all fan-sites and magazines in the world. Announcing Diablo 3 will cause only mild interest from most people, while announcing Starcraft 2 will create an uproar of enthusiasm and interest.
Third is the intelligence of a company. Blizzard didn't just yesterday figure out that they wanted to go to Korea. They also did not just realise yesterday that "Hey, our game is done. When can we announce it?" Announcements like these are planned way ahead of time, they know when and where everything is going to happen. If D3 was the next product to be done, they wouldn't have headed to Korea.
Fourth, regarding the trademark activity in Diablo. The only thing that suggests is that D3 (or anything related to Diablo) is close to being unvelied, however that does not in any way prevent SC2 from also being announced, and neither does it mean that D3 has to be announced at first opportunity. -
Apr 30, 2007PhrozenDragon posted a message on Blizzard Confirms New Product Next Month! Why do I get the feeling though that, if SC2 is announced, everyone who supported that idea will harass everyone else, and if D3 is announced, they will harass everyone else?Posted in: News
Still fun to look at.

And players will not be able to "reset stats", first of all because it will not turn out to be possible to do on such a regular basis, and second of all because if it were to work anything like the wow armory it will update while you're playing.

If there is an option to toggle whether your gear and skills show or not, then we can assume most good players will choose this option for the very reasons you stated: if they don't show their build, people aren't sure of what to expect and it will be harder and take longer to counter it, leading to good win records for those with the best builds. The best can form their own enclaves amongst themselves, and whatever knowledge is generated there will only trickle down to the general fanbase if said people choose to post any of their findings in public forums. There will of course be guides posted online, but much information will also be withheld.
With no toggle option, even the best players will be forced to reveal what skill and gear setup they use to every player. This will facilitate a faster response time in builds, as a dominant build can quickly be laid out and analyzed, by an opponent or anyone, and thus a build adapted to it can more quickly be developed, or the playstyle can be adjusted accordingly.
This does not equalize matches between evenly specced character however, as knowing the composition of a build does not tell you how to play it effectively. The best players will have to excel in execution as well as planning to win and not have to depend on build surprise to win.
I'd say your poker analogy doesn't work here, as poker is a game focused around chance and the gambling mechanic, aspects which are severely downplayed in D3 gameplay. A more apt comparison is that of a market. Each player represents a CEO, their characters are their companies and the build their respective products. Disallowing a toggle option brings the entire market closer to perfect competition while allowing toggling is akin to patent protection or another form of guarding product specifications from competitors. More public information will in this case create a more open and fair playing environment.
Will a toggle feature single-handedly make or break an interesting PvP scene? I don't know, but there is no doubt that it will have an impact.

King Leoric's quest only has a 50% percent chance of appearing; if you didn't get it, you got the //www.diablowiki.com/Poisoned_Water_Supply_(Diablo_I_Quest)">Poisoned Water Supply" class="wiki-link">//www.diablowiki.com/Poisoned_Water_Supply_(Diablo_I_Quest)">Poisoned Water Supply"/> Poisoned Water Supply instead. You need to start a new game to get it.
EDIT: In multiplayer you can only get the butcher, king leoric, lazarus and diablo quests.

As for the shooting, it's shocking for us who live here. Terrorism such as this is not something we're used to in Scandinavia, and to be frank I don't think many people would have even considered something akin to this in the realm of possibility two weeks ago.
True, we've had some terrorist attacks/attempts from extremist muslims over the past few years. The one that springs to min is the failed suicide bombing last december in Sweden which can be considered the first act of terrorism targeted in the country. But to have a person who was born and raised in Norway go and methodically execute other Norwegians at a youth camp is disturbing. Especially when he did it because of anti-islam convictions.
He's undoubtedly crazy, but the worst part is that no one saw this coming. No friends, family, neighbours or police. How do you even begin to protect yourself against that?

And it worked, because now I'm reading old lore posts from 2007!

Saw this two days ago and it looks pretty damn amazing for having been made in the map editor. We all knew it was advanced and all, but this really goes to show it. And apparently (and by that I mean of course) our very own Sixen did... something on the project
What do you all think? I see a lot of youtube comments like "omfgz qwitting wOW nao!" which is of course rather strange seeing as this isn't an actual MMO, but it still looks really cool. I wonder how it will turn out once it's released.

Any discussion about game cinematics has to mention this one, because it is so ridiculously good. Tyrael's appearance, Baal tricking Marius, Tyrael commanding Marius to the east... Evento this day I still get goosebumps from watching it. This cinematic right here forever cemented Tyrael as a bad ass character to me.
(Also that one tube heading into the brain of that giant insect tank seemed like a pretty big design flaw :P)

We had some good philosophy threads... though come to think of it that was before even you joined
And did you know you're the only one who registered a wiki account before me?
Nah, it was Solomir like Siya pointed out.
I'm fairly certain Siya still has the highest paragraph/post ratio this year.

At some point any writer has to create an arbitrary point beyond which no further explanations are ever made. In the Diablo universe, that's the moment the universe (including Heaven and Hell) were created, and the first demons and angels were created along with it. Maybe Diablo was one of those first demons along with his brothers, wee really don't know. In any case, no hint is ever given of any demon that could have created them.
It's kind of assumed that they've always been there, but you're right in that it's never actually explained in any detail.
Indeed you can, they're specifically stated to have been opposites since the very beginning of creation. Of course you could imagine that there was some unified existence before creation which ruptured or similar, thus creating the division between Heaven and Hell that is the defining factor of the Diablo Universe. But that speculative discussion is about as likely to generate any fruit as a similar discussion about the beginnings of our own universe.
