I love 'playing' the AH in WoW and look forward to (what I hope will be) trying an improved version for Diablo. I am genuinely excited to see how this aspect plays out.

Aug 3, 2011Elpenor posted a message on Runic Revision?I think I would 'enjoy' this new style. It really does sound more in line with the Diablo franchise. And the way my friend and I play tends to be to run one main character through the game and then work on several more based on what gear drops.Posted in: News
Maybe that means he runs a wizard with my barbarian the first time through - then I inherit his unwanted runes for my wizard...
I can see this working. -

No it WON'T. You're assuming everyone behaves rationally, like counting machines. You're assuming everyone will exchange currencies immediately like some HFT software. Human beings are not pure theory executors, and the system in practice will be many orders of magnitude more complex than you and Phrozen are making it out to be.
Hopefully this isn't too much of a tangent. What if instead of two AH markets the exchange rate is "fixed"? What if the exchange rate is constantly up-to-date? I have no idea if it is practical but if the AH allows bids in gold and cash interchangeably, would that solve your frustration?
Obviously, that is a rather large hypothetical. -
Aug 2, 2011Elpenor posted a message on The Auction House ExplainedAm I right in assuming the D3 market will be similar in size (number of users) to a high population WoW server?Posted in: News
Size does matter. And how large the market is will have an impact on how hard it will be to manipulate. -

Much like an earlier poster who talked about WoW's "auction-pvp", there are some of us who will use the AH in D3 for the fun of it. I will play the game to kill mobs, hell yeah! but I will also get a TON of mileage out of that evil "Market Manipulation".
I 'know a guy' who bought a truck and two jetskiis by selling WoW gold. There it was illicit and against the EULA but.... Here in D3 it will be sanctioned and will support Blizzard.
ETA: You just posted again so this is in reply to your page 5 post. -

I'll try default and how it work, if I'm not satisfied I'll switch back to classic.
I am thinking of using default to start and moving to toggle if default doesn't work. I dislike classic. -

However, if they let us spectate PvP games.... I hope it is better than the head turn, head turn, head turn, head turn of tennis. Sure, it may be fun for you to analyze the serve, etc. but what about those of us who can only keep track of one or two classes' abilities?

Here here!
I'm okay with the status of things pre-beta not being EXACTLY how I see they should be - that is what beta is for!

This was the thought I was driving at, that little ol' me may not be important on a cosmic scale but when I light a fire under one other person my importance has increased by proxy. I know that is the case! Even where I live, in a 'purple' state, I helped several apolitical people get involved in civics. I consider every critical thought I provoke as a smashing success. @Umpa, if your philosophy stems from critical evaluation and not just jaded rebellion, then I can only support your decision.

Are you staying that inaction is the only action until violent action is the only action?
I am confused by your post. Yes, banging the gong of the police state isn't very useful but being concerned and involved is an important activity.
Your last paragraph rings very true to me. People can be very predictable on a large scale. But doing nothing and letting the people around you continue to stare at the floor is, in my opinion, irresponsible. I firmly believe that personal action, be it voting anti-incumbent or just challenging your friends to stop referring to the Colbert Report as a news source, can have an impact on the country as a whole.

I'll see if I can use your post as an excuse to build that lightweight upper for my AR-10 and stockpile another 5k rds of ammo...
(Personally I am more concerned with the daylight shining on confiscatory taxation and so few people invested in changing the tax code, but that is me.)
