So lets start off with my initial reaction, "WTF? How could they?" Yea that pretty much says it all right there. However, after I read everything, spent a couple hours reading the news and peoples posts, I have come to realize these changes are going to be great.
This is where I am now, I am no less excited for this game I strongly think this will be a wonderfully epic and great game for years to come. These are my reason why the new systems don't bother me any more.
First the Real-life auction house(RL AH), great, why? because you don't have to use it, it helps stop third party sites b/c how will they make money? If you really don't like it go Hardcore. My only concerns for this AH system is how it will affect the In-game gold AH(IGG AH), I have a feeling there will be hardly any items in the IGG AH. I don't think this will really make IGG worthless because there are still those huge gold dumps(stash tabs, artisians, ect.) I think what will end up happening is people will just want to buy gold in the RL AH and the IGG AH will become obsolete. Also I can see how someone could really take advantage of the RL AH by buying up all of a type of item and than turning around and selling them for more essentially making a business out of it which I certainly frown upon.
Next the runes, this sounds alittle iffy and I definately agree that I want to know what im putting in to my skill. However, runes wont be destroyed(as far as I understand) so you can pretty much stock pile them, learn which runes do what and finally if you need a particular rune thats what the AH is for. One question I have is, after you place a rune into a skill it becomes X rune so does it stay X rune forever or will it change if you place it into another skill.
Third is about the skills, I for the most part like no skill points this may take away some custmization but to me it was tedious and not fun. Also it lets you spend more time custimizing your skills with runes. I like how we will be able to easly experiment with different skills to see what we like. With over 97 billion combinations this makes it easier to test out everything or atleast alot. Also I don't think this will make static builds or cookie cutter builds because since it is easier people will be more willing to play other builds.
Finally PvP, I like how its going, I would like to see alittle more done with pvp but pvp is imbalanced and because of that you can't really make it an e-sport or support features for it because people would QQ and complain about it being unfair, imbalenced, blah blah blah. This is also why if people buy their gear via real life money it doesn't really matter it is just suppose to be fun and not completely competitive AND on top of that you have the matchmaking anyway which helps even that out.
So this was just what I got out of the press event I am still stoked for Diablo 3 and I am hoping the beta release date is said on the 3rd and I get a key!
The hang up is end game content of secret cool rare items you try to find and work hard to get will be sold for real money.. and that EVERY item can be sold which means almost no reward for actually playing the game other then 59 levels and a mount flag. Also pvp will be a joke for any none serious gamer who wants to play and not pay money like his friend to be beating him. Simply now allowing items sold for real money will make the gold in the auction house have a fair chance and also allow pvp not to be partly run by money. And hush about skill, this isnt starcraft theres only so much skill you can have. I'd settle for a dye that if you dye you're armor with it will be unsellable and unbuyable so that you show you earned it
I believe the way the runes work is:
- They are unknown as far as stats and type they are until you put them into a skill
- Once they are put into a skill they "bind" to that particular skill, meaning if you put it into a magic missile rune spot, it will forever be a magic missile rune.
- Remember according to the person they interviewed about this new rune system it is not yet implemented, it may or may not come into being, but personally i hope it does
So lets start off with my initial reaction, after I read everything, I spent a couple hours reading the news and peoples posts, & I have come to realize these changes are going to be great.

Instead of having 7 active skills at one time, with Blizzard's move of revamping the skills & giving us only 6 active skills & 3 passive skills, their probability of having 346,104 * 279,936 = 96,886,969,344 total build combinations is not applicable anymore.

Let's all hope more update about the Beta will be revealed on the August 3rd conference call and shed more light to this epic game.
I know a lot of people are mad. But here are a few things to consider before you judge Diablo 3 too harshly.
1) The AH real money is in response to people getting virus' and having their games hacked by 3rd party item sellers. Also, it will reduce the number of spam bots roving around games annoying the hell out of everyone. Further, keep in mind... that real players will be selling their items. It won't just be a bunch of bots farming items, it will be the hardcore fans who are earning more than people who just buy items, and as long as you are willing to play the game, you can get something out of it besides an awesome game experience (hopefully.)
2) Yes, it sucks that you can't customize your skill points... but when I heard this along with the less slots for skills... I instantly thought of Guild Wars. For anyone who played Guild Wars, you know it was purely a skill based game, both in terms of spells and abilities and the players own skill and ability to play the game correctly. The gear, stats, skills, and almost everything was completely the same for everyone in the game. All the top level items were pretty much exactly the same. It was only what top level type of item you wanted that mattered. And generally, they were easy to get.
But that didn't mean that the game had characters everywhere exactly the same, far from it. In every PvP match up, you saw different combos built out of the lack of skill slots. People who instead of just randomly picking spells to go in with, actually thought out a well working combo to enter the battle with. And there were hundreds, and hundreds of different ones. There were the big ones, touch rangers, fastcast mesmers, IWAY, Trap rangers, such and such. But there was also tons of combos from the little guys.
So keep in mind, you have three passives to pick from... you also have 6 slots for 20 skills (honestly I'd prefer more skills to pick from. To have a chance for more combos.) So each time you go out into battle, you aren't going to see someone using the exact build as you.
3) The main reason Diablo 3 probably won't suck... it's Blizzard. And we all know... Blizzard is awesome. And if we truly don't like some of these game mechanics when it comes out, they are sure to improve it over time.
The hang up is end game content of secret cool rare items you try to find and work hard to get will be sold for real money.. and that EVERY item can be sold which means almost no reward for actually playing the game other then 59 levels and a mount flag. Try reading Sixen's full wall of text first, which includes a detailed run through of the entire day at Blizzard, as well as a lot of gameplay information & watch all of Force Strategy Gaming's videos before you guys keep on complaining & start to sound like a biotch.
It was mentioned by that at the start of the game, you will be given a choice to either go for the real money AH or the gold AH, whichever you choose, you cannot change anymore unless you purchase a new
If you don't want to use the real money AH, then don't. That's your choice.
If you're one of those casual players, then go for the gold AH (shown here: http://media-diablofans.cursecdn.com/attachments/7/771/635170212770880118.JPG)
Concentrate on Jay Wilson interview #1, which is primarily to talk about the Auction House, the Battle.net features that you heard about earlier today…
"Q: How do you feel about the obvious separation between the gold and the real-world AH? They’re both the exact same in terms of features and functionality and everything? In terms of use from the player base, clearly as a player, I would prefer to sell, for real money, any item, but as a buyer, I’d prefer to buy with gold. Do you feel it’s going to swing heavily to one side or the other? I feel it’s going to favor heavily the real-world one overall because, obviously again, I would prefer real money for selling an in-game item.
A: I think people are going to lean more towards the real money AH and I think there is an answer for the person who says “I don’t want to trade in real money, I’d rather trade in gold…I mean, the gold AH is one of them and I think the gold AH will be viable to find a good amount of items, but one of the reasons we’re doing the free listings every week is to allow people to sell items to generate an e-balance so they never have to put real money into the system if they don’t want to. That allows someone to circumnavigate that option if they don’t want to buy with real money. And yeah, the e-balance is technically real money, but I earned it from items I sold and not from putting in a credit card.
Q: I guess the biggest thing would be if everyone prefers to sell with real money on the AH then there won’t be nearly as many items in the gold AH, but I guess you kind of answered that.
A: Yeah, and if the vast majority of people prefer the real money AH – or if the vast majority of people prefer the gold AH – that’s what the vast majority of people prefer."
Further, keep in mind... that real players will be selling their items. It won't just be a bunch of bots farming items
What's your evidence for this? Because there's 11 years of evidence to the contrary...
Not that there won't be farming bots... but it will be easy for real players to sell their items. We outnumber bots. And everyone is going to start off at square one.
Although hell, they might find a way to stop farming bots. Who knows.

Because, Battle.net 2.0 doesn't work the same way as battle 1.0 does. Bots e.g and other things are basically much harder and actually almost impossible to implement and even install.
Technically speaking, The system is locked from blizzards side, so you would need severe hacking skills to do something like that, which MOST don't have. It's alot ALOT harder to use and abuse bots in a system architechture like battle.net 2.0
The infrastructure of battle 2.0 is alot better this time around..
You won't see duping scandals or mass bots everywhere... like we saw on battle.net 1.0..
Blizzard is aware of all of this..
Have faith.
This is also a good point. Actually a much better point than I made.
My last dispute post about real money items will be hear. The last thing I will say about paying for items summed up.
Real in game item shop = selling items alot more easy and convient and acessable and noticeable.
More easy means more people selling items.
More people selling items, means lower prices.
Lower prices, mean a bad economy.
Real money currency leads to inflated gold currency prices. As proved in every cash shop

What you fail to realize; if the item is SO easy to get that its able to flood the market, no one would buy it for real money anyways because they could just go farm it or buy it in the gold AH..
@Venator Noctis: Thank you I had not watched all the videos when I orginally posted. About possible builds we now have more! Its 2,285,814,795,264 according to Bashiok.
with that said after watching the remainder of the videos I have come up with some additional points of discussion I found to be interesting.
First I noticed in the beta footage that the enviorments were very diverse for only being a 1/3 of the act. We saw the dungeons, the outside bright and sunny day and also the dark kind of foggy night play of maybe the same areas? I think this is great assuming that IS all coming from only the beta content.
Next brings me to the same footage^^Beta gameplay, at about 00:46 we see the barbarian whirlwinding around, I noticed the mace/hammer/mallet he is using is effing huge!! I think maybe its a little too big(thats what she said) any other thoughts on this?
There was alot of talk about joining games and playing with your friends my question is this, In D2 when you join the game you were essentially neutrual to everyone else. You could A hostile people or B party with people. So in D3 if you randomly join a game are you automatically partied in the sense that you will gain xp/loot from eachother without actually checking off "party"? I know that outside the game you can party up.
In the interview I believe they talked about rushing and whats gunna stop them from rushing. Well for me I will play my first character(barbarian) the whole way through normal to hell. For the rest I am going to atleast play through normal to "learn" the class and than maybe rush through nightmare/hell. Depends on how quickly the story becomes stagnant and/or tedious.
Jay Wilson is asked about a secret cow level, he states "Do you want my standard answer for that" in the video intereview it cuts out before he answers so my question is did he actually say "its a secret" or did sixen/force purposefully put this in?
I think this is all that I will give in terms of my observations but I'll be around to post on your(the fans)ideas/opinions/observations thanks.
People can actually play the game they love and make money at the same time. Can't see how that is a bad thing. My only questions is that is it really legal to sell virtual items for real money just bcause Blizzard is getting a cut ?

I'm okay with the status of things pre-beta not being EXACTLY how I see they should be - that is what beta is for!
In progress: Barbarian, WD
