    I can see it now...

    Hoarders Season 5, Episode 8: CheehC/Equinox

CheehC has so many sets that he doesn't have room for anything else. Equinox can't seem to pass up any crafting material and her shared stash is filled with so much scrap metal that she has no room for even the best rares, so she just turns them into crafting material further fueling her hoarding problem.

I voted other. I wouldn't really mind if she didn't have a summon, instead giver her some CC skills (like Don said..I like the wall idea). Although, it does seem likely she will have some sort of summon.

And of course rare amulets/rings having the potential of being the ultimate item for a certain build when all the stars align and you get that perfect drop ;) After all, that's what made diablo 2 a pretty awesome game even after 10 years, items being variable, thus having an ever fluctuating economy.

I think it's pretty intersting that you would want rares in the ring/ammy spot vs weapon or armor. Although I would prefer to have all my armor/gear be rare or crafted in the very end-game I would mind having my rings and ammys be unique the least.

I was thinking the other day that a nice way they could balance gear would be to make it so rares have all the potential stats that any other item could have..that way finding a unique with the stats you want would be more common but if you found a rare with +10 str instead of the +10 life that you didn't need on the unique, you could swap it out instead of not keeping the rare because it doesn't give you some stat only available on uniques. This would open up more gear to support your weird build that needs str and spell power(or whatever) that most unique might not have. It also wouldn't destory the usefullness of uniques either. The unique would still be a top item for all the builds it would have been awesome for, it's just not all the builds it doesn't provide for have options(or if you find a rare with the same stats as the unique, you could swap it out as well). This could apply to rare/crafts vs sets or uniques.

Fact is when I hear demon hunter i think Illidan and this applies to anyone whose played WoW or WC3 to an extent.

    Quote from Ophion

Yep, Demon Hunter is Illidan, and it will always be that way.

I've played WC3/frozen throne and WoW since vanilla. I understand what you mean, but Diablo and Warcraft are two very different things. Maybe pre-demon hunter I would have agreed, but when I hear demon hunter I think Diablo.

Anyways, I think we are just going in circles guys

I definitely disagree. Warhammer Online kind of does that and it ends up with names like Squig Herder. Like it works since there are so many classes but when theres only 5 you can use names that define the class.

But ALL the classes hunt demons lol. They ALL kill demons, they are ALL powerful and in the end they will all be killing the same boss. "Demon hunter" just doesn't fit because... they ALL hunt demons. You could rename this class to something else and keep its lore and sub-story intact.

"demon hunter" meh it just doesn't work for diablo in my opinion.

Ok, yes all them hunt demons, kill demons, and will be killing the same boss.

But the thing is, if you were an npc and you heard this person tell you their story of how their family was murdered by demons, and now they hunt demons to have their family rest in peace.
If they just so happened to walk off after telling you. What would you call them?

Demon hunter would be the first thing to come to mind for me.

Obviously they are not social enough to have the group of people together and say "hey, so we all hunt demons. everyones calling us demon hunters, thats really lame. lets change it."

from a nobody cares about npc. demon hunter seems like the best fit.

That's what I'm saying, it's not like they named themselves that...it's the people that came up with that(at least in my mind). If I were describing someone who's sole purpose was to kill every demon possible, demon hunter is one of the first things that pop into my head.

To the argument that they all kill demons, yeah sure but she kills them in a hunters fashion (typically ranged). Not to mention killing demons is her main goal, unlike our other heros.

It seems like their is a lot of hate revolving around her "revenge quest"...I don't get how this is stupid. If I were in a world filled with demons and they came and killed my family and I had the chance to learn how to kick their ass vs standing around doing nothing...well the decision is easy for me.

And why is that bad ? The Rogue backstory from D1 and D2 are a billion times better then this demon hunter bullshit. A character class shoulder never be tied to stuff like reveange or any other kind of feeling. The character class is what the character do. And what a person do and the ability each person have is mainly determined by how this person manage to survive in the world.

If DH background was: She kill demons because some aristocrats or nubles pay her to do so, i would agree. But a order completly dedicated to reveange is just childish and cheesy. Self perfection, enrichement or survival are good reason to put yourself in danger or dedicate your life. Revenge is superficial and pointless. Only fools would do that.

I think the demon hunter lore is pretty cool. I think the fact that all demon hunters have the possibility to have a diffrent background is cool. As for revenge, I also like that part of the lore. I mean if you think about it, it is also part survival "kill or be killed" or as she says "hunted or the hunter". It is also just because she hates demons, which is nice because I mean, who doesn't.

    Quote from italofoca

Before the DH all classes didnot only have a set of skills. Each class have a clear social position in the world of sanctuary. But the DH not. At least not a clear one. The way the lore was written and the way the character was presented looks like she would earn 0 money and just starve.

The wizard has a lot of emotions that come packaged with it.

Also, due to the DH's lore, the character has potential to come from ANY social position...I'm not sure if that is your point though. All the characters make their money off of selling the stuff they get from demons, and she kills a'plenty.

    Quote from italofoca

The rogue would be a much better class. The background builded on the two first games adds alot more to the character then "pissed bitch looking for reveange". I can't believe how cheesy the DH is and how people like this kind of stuff. I guess i have an completlty different taste.

I like to make up my own background, it just gets me into the character...so I prefer the DH lore vs Rogue lore. If you want, why not just say your DH was training to be a rogue before the town was destroyed?

It really is all based on opinion though, like you said, we just have different tastes and there is nothing wrong with that.

Don't worry Ophion, I read your post too. I think that idea could work as long as it leaves the background open. I am not opposed to the name "rogue" besides the fact that is has already been used. I just don't have a problem with Demon Hunter either.

Also, I like the demonic magic!

"I'm going to roll DH guys"

"you're going to spawn a DH in diablo?"

    "what"?

"does it have mana burn too ???".

    LoL.

    What?

U guys want a name? How about night stalker ? or shadow rogue or "nightwing clan" or something.

or simple plain "assassin". Anything is better than "demon hunter".

I personally would not prefer any of those names. I mean come on, "night stalker", it's just very corny. Shadow Rogue, let me guess, an archer that uses shadow/dark magic. "Nightwing Clan".... :wallbash:

OOooooo demon hunter. I'm guessing he/she hunts demons? lol.
    Yes...

wait wait guys, I know what class the expansion will have. Undead hunter. LOL!!!

    ..... :wallbash:

    ------------------------------------------

I know it's based on opinion, so we are just going in circles, but I just fail to see how "demon hunter" is that bad of a name. Her sole purpose is to kill demons and get revenge, as stated before she is not doing it to save the world; she is only doing it to strike fear into the hearts of demons. The fact that she does not come from some archetype that is born to be a warrior is the reason she does not have a name like "amazon" or "necromancer". That is why I like it so much, she is unique.

Also, your idea of the demon hunter being from a named clan is something we could see in the future.

Of course the names have different meanings, but that is quite irrelevant as the lore behind her would obviously be changed to suit the name. A Rogue with shadow magic and an urge to slay demons wouldn't really make a lot of sense.

Rogues already exist in Diablo, so it wouldn't be hard for players to grasp the concept of a Rogue class. It could use ranged attacks, traps, and some kind of third element instead of dark magic. The gameplay would be the same, the story a little different, but the name would be much better imo.

I personally think that the DH has awesome lore. My reason for feeling this is the way that it leaves it up to my imagination to fill in the huge gaps(i.e. pre-recruitment and post). The only limitation is that we know she is driven by revenge and she trained to become a demon hunter in the Dreadlands and I love the idea of killing for revenge rather than glory or to prove something. So, changing that lore is way worse than having a "cooler name"(to me, Rogue is a linear move). Of course, this is all based on opinion so I repect yours and have no hard feelings if you disagree  .

Although, a name change is probably out of the question anyways so neener neener neeeener :P

Rogue? Pretty much the same thing without the darkness theme.

I don't know, to me, the demon hunter is more than a rogue, or a mere ranger. She is fueled by this hatred to make these demons feel how the people of Sanctuary feel, how she felt. She wants to turn them into the prey, rather than the predator; She is the lion, the hunter, and they are the helpess frightened antelope.

Also, since DHs have no set background, this opens the door to endless possibilites. Your DH could have been training to be a rogue when her town was over taken by demons, she escaped the attacks and was discovered by a "demon hunter" and set her eyes on the quest for revenge.

Use your imagination and don't take everything so literally.

"Demon Hunter" was most likely a name given to them by the common people of Sanctuary because they "hunt" and kill demons/undead.

Now tell me, what is the significant difference between a demon and an undead(most likely brought to "life" by a direct relation to the actions of Diablo).

You assume that the people of Sanctuary know as much as us, but when the world is beng attacked by forces from Hell, I think it is pretty safe to assume they shove demons and undead into the same category; it's not like they both can't be killed in the same fashion anyway. Adding onto this, perhaps demon hunting is her specialty.

I think disliking the name because she kills more than just demons is a bit nitpicky. However, Ophion has a much more valid argument.

My responce to Ophion is, and this is just my imagination, that they was most likely given the title by the people of Sanctuary. Probably just one of those things where the word started to spread of some elite warriors going around stalking Diablo's minions and killing them in revenge. The people naturally came up with a name, and "Demon Hunter" is a decent desription of what they do. Similarly, the witch doctor I relate to titles we have in our everyday life, like in African/S. American tribes. For me, that is justification enogh for the lack of an "archetype" and it is actually kind of refreshing.

What other name could there be?

"Hunter"? No, if I told you I was a hunter in an everyday conversation, killing demons is probably not the first thing that would come to your mind; whether we were in Sanctuary or on Earth.

"Diablo's minion slayer"? This is discriptive, but has no flow and also doesn't sound very badass.

"Archer"? No, she uses crossbows and other weapons not related to an archer (like grenades).

"Demon Hunter" works because she kills demons and demon related things. It gives a distinct description of what she does and it flows off the tongue. The reason they put "demon" infront of hunter is much to make a distinction from a regular hunter and these people, who are hunting beasts much more foul than your average boar(a real life example of this, think "Witch Hunter").

"Demon Hunter" is perfect in my opinion. The other classes aren't "demon hunters" because they do not treat the demons like prey, they just go out and kill evil...but the DH, she preemptively thinks of how to kill demons. She plans her moves, and stalks her prey, like a hunter/predator. This is why she is called the Demon Hunter.

That link you posted had a lot of info I didn't know, so thanks.

Do you have any info on how recipes will work? For instance, are the recipes themselves random, or will they be pre-set...like will we both find an "Axe of Death" recipe or will they work like rares?

Some new info revealed about items in the lastest Diablo tweet:

The general idea is that crafted items will rival the best drops, but you have to find the recipes/reagents. You'll wear a mix.

I think this is pretty cool concidering crafted items do not have all pre-set stats.

A skill that attracts demons would be nice, so you don't have to lead the demons into your traps.

    That.

It would also be cool if there was some sort of push-back ability(similar to the effect of the barbs leap in d2) or stun(like shockwave or mind blast) or a smokescreen type move.
