posted a message on Unattuned Runes
There seems to be some confusing regarding these unattuned runes so I'm going to make a try to explain them for those who haven't heard about it (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

This is just what we heard when Jay Wilson first dropped that they were experimenting with the runestone system.

All runes that drop is dropped in their Unattuned state. No colour attached. When you socket a skill with an unattuned rune, it would attune itself to that skill and get a random colour. So for example if you put a rank 3 unattuned runestone into the Wizard's disintegrate spell you would get a Rank 3 Crimson/Obsidian/Alabaster/Indigo/Golden Disintegrate runestone. The color is randomly assigned. After the rune is attuned it can only be used for that spell and none other. So if you chose to remove the rune it will still be a Rank 3 <whatever color it got> Disintegrate runestone.

They may of course have changed this a bit, for example they may just have gone with unattuned runes getting a random colour but not permanently devoting it to the spell you put it in. We don't really know yet.

As for if I like it or not I think it's a fair change. It would make runestone trading a bit more interesting and also adds more randomness, in the style of everything Diablo :).

    Quote from Akuma Seijin

Although I am a very addicted to my fav game of all time (D) I mightve missed this.

So say I have a sword that is 8.4 dps and it has +4 lightning damage....is that plus 4 included into the calculation of the 8.4 or is it extra?
Elemental dmg is included in the DPS calculation.

    As seen on http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/butchers-carver
The weapon only has 36-40 damage and 1 Attack per second. It also adds 9-18 fire damage.

    38 (average damage) + 13.5 (average fire dmg) = 51.5
    51.5 * 1 = 51.5 DPS :)

Will they leave nothing for discovery?

Also, disappointed in lack of butchers cleaver.

Even D2 had an item database so why not for D3?

You don't have to look if you don't want to :)

I go over how the unattuned runes works in my recent blog post. At least how they said it would work at the last press event. Things may have changed.

posted a message on The "Can My Computer Run It?!" FAQ
So, ever since the Diablo III beta system requirements were revealed by Blizzard there have been a lot of questions regarding if X system will be able to run the beta/the game, so here's a guide on how to check for yourself and answers to some common questions.

How to check if your system will run the beta:
Disclaimer: All hardware scores are based on user submitted benchmark tests and may not be completely accurate since different systems/overclocking etc can make an impact on the scores in the individual tests. Take this in consideration when comparing your hardware.
    Basics
    • Find out what hardware your computer has. If you are not sure you can use the Blizzard beta opt-in tool. It will show what CPU and graphics card you have, among other things.
    • RAM (System Memory), HD space, etc are self explanatory. Make sure you are above the minimum specified for "All Platforms".

    GPU (Video Card/Graphics Card)
    • Go to http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php and use the search form (or CTRL+F) to find your GPU in the list. Use the model name (Usually consisting of 3-5 numbers/letters). If you can't find it try different variations (e.g "GTX 460 SE", "GTX460 SE", "GTX 460SE") or look in the list manually.
    • Check the number in the first column. This is the card's G3D score based on user submitted benchmarks.
    • Compare your score to the score of the Beta System Requirements (see below for a score rundown):
    GPU Minimum Scores
    PC:
    AMD Radeon X1950 Pro: 825
    Nvidia GeForce 7800GT: 525

    Mac:
    AMD HD 2600: 224
    Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT: 286

    GPU Recommended Scores
    PC:
    AMD Radeon HD 4870: 1744
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 260: 1740

    Mac:
    AMD Radeon HD 4670: 582
    Nvidia GeForce GT 330M: 489

    CPU (Processor)
    • Go to http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php and use the search form (or CTRL+F) to find your GPU in the list. Use the model name (Usually consisting of 3-5 numbers/letters). If you can't find it try different variations (e.g "Core2 Duo E8400", "Core 2 Duo E8400", "E8400") or look in the list manually.
    • Check the number in the first column. This is the CPU's PassMark score based on user submitted benchmarks.
    • Compare your score to the score of the Beta System Requirements (see below for a score rundown):
    Minimum CPU Scores
    PC:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+: 1194
    Intel Pentium D 2.8 GHz: 742

    Mac:
Intel Core 2 Duo: (No further specifications given at the moment, but any Mac with the Intel C2D CPU should work.)

    Recommended CPU Scores
    PC:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.8 GHz: 1538
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz: 1400-1600 (Different models with same frequency, no further specifications given at the moment, but should be within the range.)

    Mac:
Intel Core 2 Duo: (No further specifications given at the moment, but any Mac with the Intel C2D CPU should work.)

    FAQ:
My score is below the minimum requirements! Won't I be able to play Diablo 3?
It depends. First and foremost these scores are based on tests uploaded by users through benchmarking software and not actual gameplay tests. Therefore the scores may not fully represent their actual performance, but they are a pin point.
Secondly, the requirements currently released are for BETA only and will very likely change (lowering the requirements) for the actual release client. The requirements are likely also "safe" so to speak that they may not actually be the absolute minimum to avoid complaints. A CPU/GPU with a lower score than the minimum may still be able to run the game.
Lastly, it is not only a fast CPU/GPU that is required. Older hardware may lack required features that are needed for the game and will thus never be able to run it.

Why is the scores different for AMD/Intel, AMD/Nvidia?
This may be because of various reasons, either the game is better optimized for one brand and thus requires less hardware power. It could also be because either does better in the benchmark tests. Either way don't take the exact scores too seriously, but rather as an average pointer.

What settings will my system be able to run smoothly?!
It's hard to say exactly atm before we can get our hands on some real tests. It also depends a lot on your setup, E.g. a screen with high resolution will require more power to run the same settings as a system with a smaller resolution. Likely Blizzard is tuning the settings so that recommended play smoothly with Medium settings and minimum at low. Check your scores relative to the requirements and you can more or less guess.

Update: You can check how your video card performs in Diablo 3 at the official page: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=40659
There you can also see what cards are not unsupported. Note that the video card is not the only thing effecting your gaming performance so results may vary.

I'm going to build a new/upgrade my computer for Diablo 3! What should I buy?
Ask in the computer thread for help. We have many helpful people willing to help you out! Remember that Diablo III will not require any high-end machines so if you are buying a computer solely to play D3 then won't have to buy anything super-expensive.

posted a message on New Forum Suggestion
I've seen a huge rise of tech support related questions popping up in the D3 general forum now, and with the release closed beta they are bound to multiply even more.

So my suggestion is to separate these threads and put them in a new forum called "Diablo 3 Technical Support" or something similar. This way you can keep stickies of normal problems that people with tech issues can find easily and you also separate those questions from the general Diablo 3 discussion forum which I think should be containing more gameplay oriented threads.

While I understand that people are having more problems than they should have because this is still only the leaked beta client I do think such a forum would be good to have even post release.

    So, what do you think?

At least spell out the whole name of the game you are referring to. Street fighter 4 is what he means..

I wouldn't say it's the same, but D3 does have a certain art style that's a bit similar I guess.

Not sure where you find graphs in a fighting game though (or in D3) :)? </spellingnazi)

posted a message on List of Economy Related Beta Stuff
So with F&F beta started and the recent leaks I wanted to try to compile everything that we can find that in some way relates to the economy of the game. With that I mean stuff like farming stats (gold find/magic find etc), info about crafting and artisans, salvaging, etc. And in the future, when (if?) they decide to test it info about the auction house.

So, list what you have found! Also feel free to correct any outdated or wrong information.

I looked around a bit on the datamined stuff and found some interesting pieces.

    Artisan training will have cooldown.
    CoolDown Training available again in
Not sure if this is a longer cooldown or just a short one to prevent "spamming" of the training button. Could also be outdated, but it makes sense that training could have a cooldown to prevent you from boosting it by just buying the Tomes of Training.

    10 Artisan Ranks:
    Apprentice
    Journeyman
    Adept
    Master
    Grandmaster
    Illustrious
    Magnificent
    Resplendent
    Glorious
    Exalted

    Magic Find affixes:
    Karma
    Luck
    Worthy
    Resplendant
    Gleaming
    Glittering
    Dazzle
    Eye
    Glimmer
    Seeking
    Scrye

    Gold find affixes list:
    Clover
    Precious
    Windfall
    Golden
    Opulent
    Prospect
    Exquisite

Some of the affixes appeared more than once so not sure if that list is complete.

    Salvage can "proc" extra materials
ResultBonus The Highly Salvageable item also gave you {s1}.
Unsure if this is possible from all items or only from certain "highly salvageable" items.

    Sockets
Helms, Bracers, Belts, Shields, Chest, Armour, Amulets can all have added sockets by the blacksmith.

    Rune Dust, salvage runes?
Crafting_Rune_Alabaster_Dust Used by the Mystic to Enhance Armor and Weapons.
Crafting_Rune_Crimson_Dust Used by the Mystic to Enhance Armor and Weapons.
Crafting_Rune_Golden_Dust Used by the Mystic to Enhance Armor and Weapons.
Crafting_Rune_Indigo_Dust Used by the Mystic to Enhance Armor and Weapons.
Crafting_Rune_Obsidian_Dust Used by the Mystic to Enhance Armor and Weapons.

Seems like some sort of material gained from salvaging runes. That would mean there are ways that runes will go out of the economy. This is just me speculating though and I have nothing backing up that thought, but it's possible. Would like confirmation if anyone knows anything about it.

    Reforgin items
ScrollReforgeC Transmutes all properties of a single magic, rare, set or legendary item into an entirely new set of properties. This process permanently reduces the maximum durability of the item by 10% and cannot be used on items with required level 50 or above.
So reforging will decrease the item durability making it less desirable for trading purposes.

    Shrines
    http://www.diablofans.com/topic/28137-cool-little-details/page__view__findpost__p__652555
D3 will have Magic and Gold find increasing shrines. Shrines are randomly placed "powerups" that gives you buffs in various stats. This could be very useful for when grinding for rare items.

That's what I found for now. Feel free to add stuff and correct me!
