The majority of games on Open are not joinable as most fail to configure their router properly; their issue, not yours.I took down all my shields but still I can't join any open bnet or tc/ip or w/e games....Anybody know why? I can host a tcp game but i can't join one...

Jun 12, 2010In regards to the age restrictions I agree it's quite impractical due the aforementioned circumvention (I'm not sure why this wasn't obvious to me immediately) but more to the point I really do not believe that age is an indicator of maturity; more of an ad hoc generalization. Regardless, a possibility [depending on the precise design] users can be assigned to their age group chat by default while requiring explicit expression to join the "adult" discussion.Posted in: Site Feedback
The current design plan entails a global channel which is accessible to anyone on any forum page (placed under the forum path (e.g, [..] DiabloFans.com > Diablofans General > Off-Topic Forum) and will retain state across reloads (which is, frankly, a pain in the ass to provide on the technical side). The reasoning behind this design choice (as opposed to multiple independent chats) is to avoid situations where users, particularly those who are new, preemptively dismiss usage of the chat due to a lack of visible activity when others are gathered in the non-default.I do like the idea, but I wonder how it is best implemented. Should there be a global chat channel or would it be flooded to the point when it becomes unreadable? If not, how should it work? Do you invite people (might be problematic if the chat doesn't follow you when you navigate)? Are there premade channels, like one for cascual talk, one for Diablo talk, etc. Should it be accessible from anywhere on the forum, or only on a specific page? If the former, does it have to reload when you move around (if so, how long does it take, does it increase page load time)? If the latter, it would sort of distract people from the actual threads and be quite inconvenent (i think most people would have a tab open for it).
A general good idea though is to have a fairly short character limit, to prevent text walls.
You bring up a good point about chat congestion and have considered it myself; the only real solution, again, is to segregate the chat and possibly to assign users to home channels in a round-robin fashion. In any instance of a multiple-channel design the capability to join and enumerate a list of available channels will be facilitated.
The load-time overhead associated with using this system (which will be a Java applet) is negligible; the software itself is cached and operates asynchronously within the page and thus will not affect overall rendering time. The applet (of which is fetched by the client) along with the server software will both be hosted by myself to alleviate the burden on the DFans server [as I have unmetered upload and a system uptime of 99.98%, it is of no consequence to me]
P.S., ofcourse another option in the multiple-channel design is to enable the viewing of multiple channels (most likely via tabbed display)

Alright I'll see what I can do.Could you make two chat rooms so us adults can have our own 18+ chat room, allowing freedom of speech and such?
I've heard drowning is peaceful; unfortuantely it's the only viable method due to server dependencies and the desire to be as least intrusive as possible with the site (the backend is written in C)In what language are you writing it in? as long as its not java i'm fine with it, to be honest if you write in java i might kill myself, everyone using java these days... its too slow.
There were concerns such a feature may draw attention away from the forums themself.A poll is kinda pointless because no one here has a reason to be against a chat system, but I vote yes nonehteless. It's up to the site devs...
Jun 12, 2010Sixen and I have been discussing implementing a chat system to enable people on DFans to communicate in real-time while they are on the site to facilitiate a more convenient discussion medium that will hopefully render increased overall site activity.Posted in: Site Feedback
As the software is being written by me personally you may also suggest features and such.
Jun 8, 2010I agree these forums are quite stagnent relative to many other forums of comparable userbase (I can only generalize, I have no idea what DFans was like prior to Kevin's aquisition) but as to why I can only conject it's due to a lack of exposed interests between users and a general lack of motiviation (personally, I find interleaved discussion unappealing -- I prefer immediate feedback for philosophical discussions as opposed to days later when I have too many other things to think about)Posted in: Off-Topic
Then again, it could be worse.
Jun 8, 2010No need to be specific; I'm after a ballpark figure.Posted in: Off-Topic
If you don't have a simple method of enumerating all the files on your computer then you can use this (May take up to a minute, usually much less)
Thanks for your input.

Impossible; chickens, camels, bats, ect are client-side only and therefor interaction with the latter will have no impact on gameplay as the server is not aware of such objects.so if you chase the chicken out from act 1 in hell to the burial grounds and kill it via killing blood raven it will drop the charm that way.
There is no correlation between the location of the portal and monster experience; the reason it's "No Name" is due to a bug caused by the portal being spawned on significant game boundary that exists between the town and the field (the portal is offset into an invalid region)For a better cow moo expirience it is bette to try and make the No name level. You do this bye making the cow portal on the edge of the gate where blood moor and the camp connect. If you get the portal exactly on the line you will make the No name level and the cows reward much more expirience and I belive theres more of them.
Utter fluff.Lots of people insist that making the Cow portal either next to Akara or next to the Stash yields the most cows. They even get violent about it if you make it somewhere else.
It does nothing, nada, zip. The affects of triggering the gem are contained purely within the gem's graphical display state and thus have no consequence on the game whatsoever. It's "working as intended," they say. It's featured on the official Diablo III website. It's settled itself cozily between the chat and game list areas in Diablo II's GUI for nearly a decade. But what does it do?
The lack of a known purpose has led to, among some, a religious fanaticism for a number of things:
- Getting the Perfect Gem Activated state improves gem drops.
- Getting the Perfect Gem Activated state improves chances of finding a Gem Shrine.
- Activating the Mooooo! state increases the number of Hell Bovines or the drops of monsters in the Secret Cow Level.
- Garners better drops from bosses when the Perfect Gem Activated state occurs.
Although I will continue to keep my eye out for any anomalies that may arise in relation to the gem
In regards to MF, noone can really say for certain as even though we have a copy of the game server built into the client which is for the most part a carbon copy of those used on Battle.net, there's no way to know what differences there could be on the Battle.net versions (although it does provide insight to contraints).
So yes, all those wild claims for increasing your item chances cannot be proved one way or the other.
One thing is certain though; after 100% MF, significant diminishing returns kicks in.
