Wanting to see equal representation for male and females is hardly extremist.

Perhaps you need a new dictionary.

    Edit:

I've also noticed you've placed words into my mouth.

Obviously, women don't mind seeing women in games promoting sexuality. I do believe they mind when it's like WoW.

A set of platemail looks like platemail on a male. Put that same armour on a female and it looks like a string bikini.

What I am asking for is that women in armour be sexy without looking like pornstars.

I'd like to see some sort of Samurai as the tank class or paladin replacement. I know that would restrict his armor and weapon options looks wise, but hey, I'm no art designer I'm sure there's a way to add variety.

A mechanic that sort of arises from this concept is the Samurai belief that his sword was his soul, and that by harmonising himself with his weapon, the two would become one entity on the battlefield and the true power of the katana would be unleashed. As such you could have a sort of Soul Sword class that via his chakras using his blade as a conduit is able to perform amazing skills.

It could add to the lore and become another race of humans who train in some far off land in temples etc. etc. you know the rest, to become demon slayers, Warrior monks even.

    Examples of skills.

Heaven Wall: The Samurai's holy chakras allow him to react with uncanny speed, any melee attacks suffered have a chance to be blocked and instantly countered. (Say a 10% chance maximum, buff like Barb's warcry. Counters go from 50% to 130% weapon damage with increased rank*

Demon Cutter: As a result of heavy training the Samurai is able to accelerate at intense speed, effectively blinking to the target causing 200% weapon damage with a shockwave pulsing from the primary target dealing 125% weapon damage to all hit nearby.

Chakra Edge: The Samurai condenses his chakra into his blade then performs an Iai (A katana technique in which the Samurai draws his katana and slashes his opponent in one rapid motion) which produces a chakra wave dealing damage in a line to any target hit.

Many might hate the idea but I personally love the whole oriental vibe when it comes to warriors, honour codes and all that banter. and it's a theme Blizz haven't really explored in any great detail in Diablo, something new perhaps.

Aren't you the same guy that made the Samurai class post?

Samurai are not, were not, and never will be a defensive class.

They were not even really swordsmen. They were cavalry archers.

Keep this anime inspired stuff away, please.

After spending years playing on EverQuest/posting on EQLive with dozens (if not hundreds) of mature young and same-age women, I've seen that many are not in the least bit offended by the depiction of females in media. Most of them like to see their gender represented in a sexy way, because it shows that women can be strong and sexual at the same time. More often than not, instead of tossing out utterances like "immature" and "horny teenagers", they prefer to contribute ideas on how to best depict women in the games they love. It is no surprise to discover that the people who get the most offended about things of this nature are the ones which have deep-seeded insecurities, and they will frankly never be pleased.

And to the above poster who said something about "naked" characters? Come on. Now you're just being disingenuous. I would prefer we all stay honest and rational on this discussion because it has been, for the most part, very mature up to this point. There is definitely more than enough room for a variety of opinions, so there's no need to try to take an extremist (and dishonest) standpoint.

    Cheers,
SmashBoy (still trying to program his VHS VCR from 1995)

My posts are all done with an entirely neutral view, with the goal of bringing up points no one else has bothered to say or explain in much detail.

The fact that my opinion that gender should be equally represented (naked is an extreme point, but I posted before that if you want scantily clad women, bring in scantily clad men) is in opposition to your opinion that females in games should be over sexualized, does not make it dishonest.

However, I do find dishonesty in your saying that women enjoy seeing their gender over sexualized. This is the minority. I can prove it simply by the fact that every time I am in a relationship, I have to keep my special video folder a secret or I'm in big trouble.

Also, I used immature to describe men that are repulsed by seeing other men naked.

The Burning Hells is divided into sections, but there is no such thing as being 2 seperated Burning Hells

You would still say Hells, because if you just said Hell the question would be which one, the side of the Lesser Evils or the Prime Evils.

Guildwars is a completely different type of game though. There is very little in the way of solo playing which makes a Healer invaluable. I understand what your saying about a warrior type monk, but what type of skills would they have?

    Kicking ass.

No really, martial arts and psychic powers. But more defined than the Assassin.

There are two Hells. There was a bit of a civil war down there.

As far as lore goes, Hell consists of outcasts from Heaven due to an ideological split.

Sanctuary was the middle ground and all those who would remain neutral stayed there.

Until Tyrael broke the Worldstone, that is.

I think Tyrael had darker motives for his actions.

    What? Why/how is a monk a healer?

Blame Guild Wars. They took a great melee character and turned them into healbots.

I think you're looking at this all wrong.

    (1) Many of us who enjoy looking at our epic women are not objectionable to having epic males characters, either.

    (2) Have you ever picked up a romance novel? You do realize that those are marketed towards women, correct? Women consume at least as much sexual content as men do, now.

    (3) There are a great number of women who enjoy having sexy female characters to look at, either (a) for bragging rights, (b) to feel powerful and sexy themselves while immersing themselves in the game or (c) because quite a large portion of the female population actually has a sexual attraction TO other women and enjoy looking at them the same way boys/men do.

We're always growing up, look at how quickly society shifts and changes. You're going to have to learn to adapt or die (well, we're all gonna die, but I'm speaking figuratively today), there's no two ways about it. It's how our world is right now, you're just going to have to deal with it somehow.

An excerpt from the Christmas special episode of Family Guy:
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something!
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

    Cheers,
    SmashBoy (like HellBoy, but greasier)

    No, I understood.

You want naked women, you get naked men, too.

Most guys (immaturity plays a role here) cannot bear to see naked men. So my proposal is everyone wears armour equally. Women can look "hot" in armour. The Rogue from Diablo is a great example.

Depends on the armor and the longsword.
Even a trained male can't break some armor with just a longsword. :cute:

    Just lammellar.

In the hands of a trained warrior in Greece, it was common to cut through that with just a bronze xiphos.

Give that same sword to your average guy today? He couldn't even make a dent.

Mental, yes. Physically, no. We're genetically different and do not have the same physical characteristics/ abilities.

For example, a woman's pelvis is designed so the legs can rotate outwards, opposed to men which allows them to run piston-style with no difficulty. Women can run the way men do, but they are not physically designed to have the same ease with it as men.

And yes, I understand there are a lot of women that could probably kick my ass. But not many, because they have to train and become that strong/athletic. If you took a regular man and regular women, nature has designed them for specific rolls in survival.

Now, for the other side, women have the same mental capacity as men, period. There's no limiter to either gender's brain unless you're born mentally retarded.

    =]

The average male of today couldn't break armour with a longsword unless he had physical training.

I do believe there are differences in men and women, however, women are not weaker or inferior. They are designed differently, but they can do many things far better to men.

A good case: Women actually make better pilots and better snipers on average than men. Fact.

You remind me of the soccer moms that complained all the time on EQLive. It isn't the developers with the hormonal problem, son. If sex didn't sell, they wouldn't market it, now would they?

    Cheers,
SmashBoy (one of common sense's few remaining heirs)

Yes, but now we are living and dealing with a different world. Gaming isn't a boys-only club anymore, more and more women and girls are playing games these days.

It's not a one-way street. You can't have scantily clad women unless you offer scantily clad men, as well, or it's sexist. There is a time and place for dressing scantily, middle of a city in a jungle where the humidity is likely 120f? I'd be butt-ass naked as well. But slashing bad guys on a battlefield? You bet I'd be covered in the best protection I could get.

Developers, and consumers, just need to grow up.

I'd like to add to this idea.

A kill counter that affects how much damage you do.

So if you slew 100 baddies in a row, with little downtime between fights, you'd get a damage bonus for melee and spells.
