Aug 7, 2008Ralsu posted a message on Diablo 3 Art Director ResignsPosted in: News
This would mean more if there were only 57,000 Diablo fans. As it stands, I think the art direction is terrific and that the Photoshop desatuarizations are crap, but I have not signed any petition for the artwork and won't. I don't need to. Blizzard has said multiple times now that the art style is set.Quote from "rhunex" »the petition against the artwork has nearly 55,000 signatures, whereas the one for the artwork is just shy of 2,000.
I had to highlight this. While I am not here to challenge your mad editing skills (I don't know you and it would be foolish to make assumptions about you), I'll note that I think Gears of Wars is boring to look at. The graphics are drawn extremely well, but everything is gray and brown. I'll pass on two-toned worlds. It's just not my style. I am able to experience suspense, drama, and tension even with a bright purple tapestry in the room.Quote from "Arcanox" »Despite what the 'Art Director' says -

I forgot about that. Still wouldn't mind knowing her last name, but meh. Thanks for the reminder.Quote from "Rollmajob" »Someone was asking about a young lady in the trailer. I think her name is Leah. Check the 20 min gameplay video at 11.45 when barbarrian is talking to Cain.

Jul 9, 2008Ralsu posted a message on Official BlizzCast 5 Q&A SubmissionsLadies and gents, I think we have the graphics question covered (with snarky comments from both sides). At least 4 people have asked if Blizzard has any reaction to the petition about the graphics.Posted in: News

1. In the game play video, we see skills with ranks that are different from Diablo II (e.g. 1/1, 5/5, 5/10). Since the classes are said to be playable internally, how far along are the skill trees, and what will they be like.
2. Are the killing moves of the Siegebreaker Assault Beast in the game play trailer possible only when a player character is going to die from the next hit anyway, or can they be one-hit kills?
3. In the game play trailer, the Barbarian uses Leap to cross a bridge that collapses in a scripted event. Was this designed just for show, or is it a set part of the game? If the answer is that it is set, how will the other classes get across?
4. Why was the artwork trailer removed from the Diablo3.com website?
5. Can we have the name of the young lady in the cinematic trailer?
6. In the game play video, we see Barbarian skills that cost Fury or Stamina to cast. Where are these pools visible in the UI, and can you talk about them some more? -

No. He means this. It came with the cinematics on DVD and the Diablo II Dungeons & Dragons game. Here is the back. I'd take a picture of mine, but I have to run to work.Quote from "AngalotH" »You mean Diablo Battle Chest? But didn't that came after the initial release? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Even Tyrael only voted to save humanity because he was fascinated by the human propensity to choose order instead of acting under the angelic compulsion to impose order.

I think raw damage is an inefficient way to measure the contribution to a group.

Yessir. I see that you believe the comet is an omen from Tyrael that the second Sin War is about to begin.
One thing I need to mull over is "failing luminaries." In what way(s) are they failing? Is it because they have been driven to commit evil? Is it because they so blindly want to impose order that they overlook the damage they do and how it creates the very chaos the Burning Hells seek? Have these folks never watched Babylon 5? if I make a character named Sheridan in Diablo III, can I just tell both sides to "get the hell out of our galaxy?"

Emphases mine.

IF the drops are not class-specific, then your incentive to get mixed into the combat is the hope that people will be willing to hand you a sweet drop they looted and you want.

As for the "final gambit" of the prophecy, I think we have to concede to Atrumentis that it refers to Baal's assault on Mt. Arreat. It comes right before the passage describing the surge from the southlands. Of course, it could refer to a plan that comes after that, too--one we have not see yet.
At this point, I think we have to declare the prophesy fulfilled in Diablo II. Each Prime Evil did the job he was best suited to do. Diablo reclaimed Hell through the sheer terror of his presence. Mephisto channeled his hatred for the Vizjeri who imprisoned him and the forces of Heaven into a stall-tactic battle against the hero. Baal headed for the Worldstone to wage a destructive war on Sanctuary.
Now, there are a couple of points I think people are hasty to assume about the end of Diablo II:
The destruction of the Soulstones will keep Diablo and Mephisto from returning to Sanctuary after the destruction of the Worldstone. Since the Worldstone simultaneously sought to shield the existance of the planet from both Hell and Heaven while controlling the powers of the Nephelem, I think the destruction of the Worldstone makes it very likely that the Prime Evils can return.
The comet is Tyrael, related to Tyrael, a fallen angel, or frozen Cool Whip. Aside from the Cool Whip theory, I am not really able to buy into any of them. Sometimes a meteor is just a meteor? I don't know. I just think the idea of "fallen angel" or "guardian angel" from the Judeo-Christian theology is too often romanticized and imposed on Diablo lore. The only reason the angels tolerate humans--even Tyrael--is because of a fascination with their free will. Both sides pretty much see Sanctuary as a living weapon. If Tyrael does anything to save the world, I think it is for FAR more selfish reasons than anyone states.

I agree with this line of thought and the notion that Diablo had already reclaimed Hell. As we see in the cinematic after Act III of DII:
I think each Prime Evil had a clear mission.
Diablo was to overtake hell again. And I think he did it easily and quickly because nobody saw it coming. Remember how scared shitless Xazax was when he encountered Diablo in the desert of Aranoch?

To that end, I'd say I am willing to play with the LoD mercenary system, but Blizzard shouldn't waste my time with the original concept given to us with Diablo II.
I have also been known to play with these Mercs.

Here's a recap of what we have so far:
There was speculation that the world of Sanctuary might be flat right before the two pages of WoW O/T.
Another thing I have noted is that the region formerly labeled as Ensteig has now been further defined with Ensteig as a single location and the rest of the area noted as Sharval Wilds.

NP. Here is a slightly fuzzy Battle Cry that I captured by pausing the Flash movie and taking a print screen. It shows the Barb at 5/10 in this skill.
