Look at me - Im member since May 2006 and yet I have never needed to post anything, becouse I was just reading. Ofc Ill start to post now becouse I want my freakin beta! The fact I play diablo since D1 demom got all Blizzard games and am signed up for beta testing for all blizz games (never picked for single beta) wont help me get beta becouse Im from Europe!
And I believe there is a lot of ppl out there who are just like me. Yet, you call us noobs and want us to be muted. Nice job.
You can post... just not start a new topic until you hit 40 posts. Its not THAT hard to post 40 things. I've done it in a day myself before.
That would lead only to even WORSE spam situation! Everyone would be forced to make 40/50 stupid comments and spam only in order to repost new topic and have chance to win beta key! DiabloFans should have think about this sooner and make it something like "random registred member drawing" not from posts
Dude ... for being here "since 2006" you don't know wtf you are talking about.
Contest is not for threads... its for posts.... wtf?
It may be for posts, but people want to make new topics since they were already forced to register, and in order to do that they would have to spam! You sir are troll nothing more.

Wtf are you talking about? People would simply post in existing threads and topics to get their post counts. New topics are not required to get a key... new topics are not required at all.
(Don't want to continue the quote-pyramid)
To the poster (a bit) above me: that would not change the current surge of "for the sake of posting" posts, which aren't on topic. Topics or posts, this is bound to happen under such conditions.
My main concern is less about the post... i can skip past those. Its about the new topics being created. That is more spammy that the posts...
That's just shoving the problem a bit further away though, as the topics would become that much harder to follow (internally).
I already automatically skip most posts by people with < 100 posts in the majority of threads since this started. Its unfortunate but its my way of filtering the spam.
I and some of my friends have been following and appreciating daiblofans as well as the new news, and press up dates, for a while now I personally have just made an account. Just because people have less that 50 posts does not mean that they are ignorant or do not know anything.
I see both sides of it but I hate just looking at the recent posts and seeing a bunch of topics that were discussed months ago. I'd say that you either need to have like 30 to 50 good posts, not like "Yeah! I agree man!" but actual conversation, or a week of being a member. I'm not all that old cause I was registered since the Caption Constest. But I started coming here about a year ago, just lurking at the time.

Just my oppinion
50 posts isn't that many, and its not that punishing. You can still post.... just not create topics. Most forums have these rules anyways....
It's the first time -- to my knowledge, anyway -- that DiabloFans has even had a beta key contest. I'm willing to tolerate the surge for a few days. Who knows, maybe we'll end up with some more active posters.
Although, yes, it will be somewhat uncomfortable to other members given how small the DiabloFans community is, and then to experience the increase in new members to said small community.

There have been several beta contests on this site since beta has begun. This is just the latest debacle to occur. Don't get me wrong, I understand that it is their site and they are free to do what they please, and I, like everyone else is free to leave when ever they see fit. This contest though has gotten a little out of control. I too am thinking about staying off the site for a few weeks to let all of this calm down.
What I wonder is where is the moderation? Pages and pages of non-essential, wrongly placed and some plain stupid posts that spam the sh*t out of all subforums. A month ago a new topic that had anything to do with, let's say "what dye colors are there?" would've been locked and sent to the already existing topics within minutes. But right now nothing is moderated. No posters are being shushed, no topics are locked or deleted. Is this Yahoo answers?!
I'm even applying to help. Even temporarily, until the contest is over. Really, it's that bad. Let me delete the 3 consecutive topics made by the same poster that doesn't know you only need to push the button once, instead of letting them remain there for a long time. Or lock a topic and send someone over to an existing one discussing his issue.

Our mods are actually pretty complacent, rather lazy. Sorry guys, but you kind of are.
And yeah, new users are very impulsive and it's annoying. If you think about it, a lot of users will register just for the sake of creating a new thread. And there are tons of duplicate threads as a result, but few seem to care anymore. I think from an admin point of view, and I could easily be wrong, none of it matters anymore because what they care about is the site getting lots of hits. As many hits as possible. More threads, more hits. Give new users more freedom to create content, and thus again, more hits.
Many of the new users who create threads also have a high rate of fading out pretty quickly. I've seen tons of new users come and go after they contributed their one time payment of two cents. Get it? Their two cents.
They should still have the join date under the avatar when you post.

lol that sounds over the top, how about a function where if someone tries starting a new thread and it has the same relevance to an already existing thread you cant create it, i.e " WD nerf" and " not sure about WD nerf" or any other variation of that sort, i dont think you should penalize people for wanting to create discussion after all this is a forum.
i do get where you're coming from just dont think people having to constantly post will help them understand they're are other threads that are exactly the same.
