Blizzard has unveiled a new design for Battle.net complete with new features and functionality. The development of a "new Battle.net" has been hinted at for a long time in anticipation for the upcoming releases of both Starcraft II and Diablo III.
The new Battle.net is an upgrade to all preexisting Blizzard Accounts tied to Starcraft, Diablo 2, and Warcraft 3. Owners of World of Warcraft have an option to merge all of their accounts to the new service.
Be sure to check out the new Battle.net Account FAQ too, as it may answer many of your questions regarding the new system.

YES! SUPER EXCITING AND VERY INTERESTING UPDATE!.....no.
This is actually a good sign, the new battle.net will be launching with SCII and if it is not done then SCII cannot launch. I could care less about SCII, but it has to come out before D3 does.
This is a sign that they are making progress.

There is no such thing as B.Net 1 or 2. There's just one system and it's being upgraded now.
ah k sweet. So will it be possible then to play d2 on bnet and chat to someone playing d3 using private msgs. Sounds good to me
edit: haha I also really really hope they fix the lag issues with bnet. i'm sure they will tho. lag was basically diablos strongest power in d2, the ability to freeze us while his minions invisibily move around and kill us.
I'm with you jwest88 , not all excited about starcraft even though i owned the first one but it is progress and that is what we are after. I read starcraftwire that there are changes to the beta sign up webpages as well. They have been moved from blizzard to WOW and they think they did this because they do not want the meltdown like they had with ticket sales for blizzcon 08. WOW servers can handle it. SO hopefully within a month or so starcraft2 beta will be out and moving us closer to D3
Neat. After you add your games to your account, you get an option to digitally download them.
EDIT: Oh great! Blizzard authenticator will work with the new B.Net!!!
EDIT 2: New B.Net account obviously supports passwords with more than 12 chars, meaning that patch 1.13 for D2 will have to implement a whole new interface. \o/

Thanks for the info; I don't know much about SC2 progress because I haven't been following it(but all I know is there's a lot of blues on the forums), I hope as well that the beta for SC2 starts soon.
It makes sense to move the beta sign up to WoW if the servers can handle more. Hopefully this means that Blizzard wants more people to test the beta so they can get feedback from more people and more quickly.

i'm sorry if this is a really dumb question, but will we still be able to log into different game characters and chat with each other in chat channels?
no? or we don't know yet?
(also i dont like having to use my email vs account name..)
edit: if no.. that sucks!!! ><

I kept telling that to people but nobody believed me!
EDIT: But what the heck, I can't select my country to create a b.net account.
