You're better to just bring extra of something, I generally bring 128 sands or more and stack 2 big vertical lines, when you're on top you can dig one to get back down without a scratch. (I prefer to waste sands on this, I generally have way more than I can spend, but I can always use dirt).
Meh, I just wanted to see if I would die. I thought I would, but I didn't. I was like "Wow, I fucking rock!" when I survived it. Lol.
Link just gave me a great idea. I'm going to climb a hill and find the biggest mountain I can and then build a huge ass tower/fort.
I already have a base on a maybe 5x5 square island, underneath it. It's pretty cool. One on a hillside looking out to the ocean, one that i burrowed straight up into a natural sand pit and I thought it looked cool so I dubbed it Antlion Sation. Then my main one is a simple layout with a huge mine shaft going wayyy down and a glass ceiling to get optimal light in the daytime all the way to the bottom of the shaft and burning any undead I happen to come upon in the day time. Also have a dock out front.
One thing that bothers me is I had this huge like... pillar... it's hard to explain, but it spawned out front and it's annoying and I need to build another tower next to it to take it down. Looks like this from the side.

Really freaking awkward. I took out what i could from the bottom and now it's just a floating chunk of crap. I wanna get rid of it.
The biggest struggle I had was building my glass roof over my mining shaft. It happened to be right below two HUGE fucking trees and I ended up having to go up and cut them all down. Learned later you can burn them, though I have pieces of trees that have been burning for at least a week in game time.
Next I'm going to attempt to make a nice tree farm, I'm having some wood problems occasionally and i don't like scaling mountains to chop down trees. My area is really beach/mountain, there is a lot to explore inland still though.
Still haven't found anymore diamond though after falling through the earth. That was on my desert island mine shaft. Lost so much stuff, thankfully I had a lot of other materials I hadn't mined and knew where to go back and get them.
Alright, I am now making a big ass tower that's going to be called the "Tower of Creation" (copyright ). It's going be a huge ass scenic tower that is on top my of house. I will post a video of it when I'm finished.
Btw, if you are wondering why grass isn't growing on any high stuff, it's because you need to manually transport it up there and it's a pain in the ass. Grass only grows by grass, which means you're going to have to make a path to your platform from a grass patch.
Also, I got an idea from a friend to save up TNT and blow up a mountain. It's already been done, but I want to try it out. I'll post a video of that as well
Finished my big tower, it ended up being on a fairly large cliff. So I threw some lava on the edge of the cliff and there is a river that I made that flows into a natural lake below so it meets up and makes obsidian it's cool looking. The first floor has a lava pit to throw trash in, a large chest, a crafting bench, and an oven, the second floor has a complete 360 degree glass view (except one tile for a ladder) and the top floor is adorned with torched around the rim and a red stone torch/dust design in the middle.
Mine is more like a giant stone pillar, kinda like Sauron's tower.
At some point I was unable to build it higher though. I started at sea level and ended up above the clouds. So is there an invisible ceiling to the map, or a max build height?
edit: I counted, you can go about 17 above cloud level.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

No the ocean is infinite, but an infinite water source is a 2x2 well that has 2 water blocks poured in it. I just need to take some time and find the ocean some day.
Ocean water is not infinite. You can dig on nearby land and the water will "pour" over but it won't be as high and will look like shit. You can "take" water from the biggest water sources and the water around starts flowing towards that point, making it look like shit.
I have a lot of problem understanding how water truly works, but all I do know is that to make an infinite water sources, you make a 2x2 box and put 2 bucket of water in 2 opposite corners. When the water collides like that, then the water keep "recreating" itself when you take any.

Oh ok, there seemst o be a bug in the multiplayer version here then. Whenever I take water and drop it back down anywhere it just disappears after a while. Can't create infinite water sources or anything like that

Yeah, but if you were on my map, then you would know how hard it is.
And this is bullshit. I lost 2 diamond picks, and all my steel because slime infested my isolated cavern in the bottom of the Earth. Does anyone know why my stuff disappeared and why slime spawned there?

Monsters can supposedly spawn anywhere where there's no lightsource within four blocks I think it is. I was once digging in my mineshaft and BAM! Creeper came out of nowhere and blasted me back to the spawn point.
Stuff also disappears after roughly five minutes unless I miss my guess, so if you're too far from your spawnpoint and can't get back in time...

Slimes can, to the best of my knowledge, spawn within light. It is the only monster that I personally know of that can, at this time, spawn in the light.

I named it "The Torch".

Also, I am running the InDev version. :/ I can't wait for payday, I want Alpha Version!
im still spelunking around my caves.
"to the worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish."
This is what I was trying to say. I just can't find the ocean to get water from -.-
And just download it from the website.
And I cannot download Alpha from the website without the funds to pay for it. o.O

Yup, right here: Slimes on Minepedia
Well looks like I'm fucked for now haha. And btw, I made a monster spawner in my test labs so I can practice combat haha.
