Okay so I don't have the coin for a new xbox but, I found a site where i can get a 20GB 360 for roughly $150. Do you guys think this is a good idea? I have heard great things about 360's but what worries me is the dreaded Red Rings of Death. I plan on buying a 1 year warranty with it as well. What are your guys thoughts?
With a 1 year warranty, I'd definitely get one.
You should check how much they are new though, depending on the price you may be better off buying a new one.

I bought one refurbished. One month later the graphics overheated and I got rings, took it back and they replaced it with another, that one froze all the time and the laser didn't read discs good. Finally my friend was trading his new one in (probably 2 months old) to get some money toward a PS3, and I traded his for mine. (you get the same money no matter how old or new).
Haven't had another problem since.
So in short, it's a gamble.
The older ones seem to have a lot of problems though I believe Microsoft fixes all the problems for free now, it's still a pain to have to send it off. Still though if you're SURE you can't save up for the new one, get the refurbished. If I could redo it all though now I'd had saved for a extra month and just got mine new.
Not all the new ones are RRoD free. Mine is getting ready to die. :/
You will want to make sure the Microsoft warranties are still good on refurbished ones before dropping a single penny on one. I know if it was me, I'd buy one, get a RRoD, and not be able to send it back.

ya i did the math the premium is $250 plus a game is $60 that adds up to about $310 with this i can get a game plus a LIVE subscription of $300
edit: I know it is a gamble i have heard of people who have had theres since 2005 and no RRoD. And plus this 1 has HDMI which was made in the 2007 model where the fail rate isnt that high
150 with the harddrive already? I'd just get it. Play Halo with us!
Ya I am. Can't go wrong with 1 year warranty. won't have online for a while though and plus, Ima Gears guy
edit: Halo 3 is cheaper so i will be pwning you noobs in the near future
when i bought my xbox from bestbuy, there was a special sale going on where if you purchase 2 controllers with your xbox, then they take 50$ off the price of the xbox. i was thrilled at the time.
two days later i get the red ring of death. i go to best buy with the xbox in the original box, with the original controller, all the manuals, all the cords, and go to return counter. i return the xbox with conformation of my debit card, and i see that the new xbox costed 50$ more than the original one i bought. apparently the sale they were having did not apply to the new xbox. pissed off a demanded to see the manager. after waiting for half an hour he finally turns up. i tell him that on by no means will i pay the extra 50$ because best buy sold me a broken xbox. he says that because i used a gift card to help pay for the xbox (i still dont understand this part) he needs to see conformation of the gift card. however, when i bought the xbox, the cashier tossed my gift card in the trash. i explain this to the manager. he tells me there is nothing he can do without the gift card. i give up. best buy successfully stole 50$ from me.
If you already have $150, why not save up a few more months for the better Elite version. I have one, it's worth it. With the new feature of being able to copy your game to your HD for faster load times, you will use up that 20gb in about 2 days. 120gb with the Elite.

Buying refurbished is not a good idea. This isn't the 1980s anymore. Back then electronics were built to last. How many of your parents have 20-30 year old electronics in their house? Now do you think your xbox is still going to be in running condition, hell, even 10 years from now? LOL no. Electronics now are built to last 5 years just in time to die when the newer models come into stock.
okay so I have finally decided what to do. My dad is gonna take me to go pick up a 60gig pro from Best Buy tomorrow. I can give you guys my gamertag bt it will be a while till I get LIVE (i need to buy an ethernet brige plus 12 month subscription) looking forward to pwning you guys in the near future
