Recently I've been reading and watching reviews for Unreal Tournament 3 and intend to get it in the near future. One thing I've noticed is that many people complain about it being twitch gaming. Now I wasn't familiar with the term before but understand it to mean that the game is fast paced and relies heavily on reflexes(such as UT, Quake, etc.).
It seems when most people use the term, they do so in a derogatory manner. I've always found I loved that aspect of the UT games. Sure it gives the games a little added learning curve if you haven't played a fps with a mouse before, but I find the action is all the better once you get used to it. Of course I wouldn't want it applied to games like Diablo, but I think the reflex heavy gaming works well in fps games along with some racing and fighting games.
Yeah for halo 3 its impressive, but for cod4 its more of a bad thing kinda "douche-baggy"
I dont know why, but i dont like seeing people play on sensitivity 10, and neither do my friends. BTW im talking about xbox 360, not PC, thats because i cant stand playing fast paced games without a controller.
Interesting, I somewhat expected to get replies about how awful it is since most people seem to use the term as though it's just terrible. I guess the people I've seen proclaim hatred for twitch gaming are just a loud minority. Of course 3 or 4 responses isn't really a broad sample of people but still.

I prefer twitch games. I think it's a better measure of skill than time. Of course, intelligence is best but that's kind of hard to integrate into a video game.
I played a lot of StarCraft, which is a twitch game as far as I'm concerned...
UT is one of my favorite games but I usually can't compete online, lol, not much of an FPS person.
Starcraft could be labeled also as a twitch game, but in FPS games its more intensive... Did you ever see a pro playing CS? tell me thats not crazy twitching lol
Basically. For that reason, I consider StarCraft more interesting, but it's not really a truly intelligent game. People can think only so fast so templates are used.
I don't think twitch gaming is harder at all myself tbh. Games like UT and TF2 (while that's not much of a twitch game) don't require your accuracy to be on par. It's like the first run in dodgeball; whoever gets there first has the advantage. I usually enjoy games that are a good mix of reflex and accuracy, like Dawds.

So what do you think of it?

It's really fast paced gameplay, and it's really challenging, it makes you stay on your toes at all times.
There are lulls in the combat, though. Don't think it's a constant brawl.
