When Paul Sams discussed extensions to the Diablo and Starcraft universes, he said that:
Some other companies get into the role of making just MMOs, but Blizzard lets the developers pick what they want to work on, and it’s not all MMOs…
This has fueled hopes that Diablo 3 might not be a MMO after all. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that World of Diablo is already registered as a trademark! I did a trademark search and here’s the result:
IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. G & S: Computer game software. FIRST USE: 20060715. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20060715 IC 041. US 100 101 107. G & S: Entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game. FIRST USE: 20060715. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 20060715″ as the use and “(APPLICANT) GENERAL COMPUTERS, INC. CORPORATION NEVADA 606 JOHNSON AVENUE, SUITE 18 BOHEMIA NEW YORK 11716
From what I can tell General Computers are a Chinese company with offices in the US (or it’s the other way around). They are coming out with a MMO called Twilight War : After the Fall. I’m not sure HOW they have secured World of Diablo but it seems pretty obvious they plan to use it for a MMO. It could explain why Blizzard started buying all the Diablo 3 domains they could find!
it depends on the mechanics i guess. WOD, being like WOW, thats not the greatest. WOD like say GW, hmm that could work.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
If there is an MMO coming out called World of Diablo, and it is based on Diablo, they are going to get sued down to the core of Earth by Blizzard. However, Blizzard can't copyright "Diablo", so if they are developing something, it is most likely nothing that has to do with Diablo as we know it.
Or perhaps they did it to sell it to Blizzard?
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

the name Diablo is copyrighted by Blizzard. I'd only guess that if such a game is under development by another company its only made under contract by Blizzard.
Which would then be highly unlikely. They have always ensured that their games go precisely in the direction that they want to, and letting it off to someone else is not something I would imagine them doing.

they did hire another team for Starcraft Ghost, i think. But indeed, for a game that big i dont think they'd take another team but their own. We'll see sooner or later. Major project will be announced inside 2007 so we'll get official info
Blizzard only does this so no one else can use that name, its not like there actually making World of Diablo. They can barely manage World of warcraft.

i think that the chinese company bought it so that they could later sell to blizzard for more cash. imagine paying a dollar for something, and later on a billionare gives you a million for that same thing. that is what is at work here.
The trademark of that website does not mean it's going to be a WoW remake. They just don't want some company like General Computers treading on their territory.

I beg to differ on their power to maintain WoW. After all, now they have a bigger development budget and more employees. I fail to see how their control of WoW is so weak. But you are right in that it was a business move to prevent others from using it.
They're probably just securing the title "World of Diablo" so no-one else can use it and for later use (In case they decide to actually go for a World of Diablo game, maybe after diablo 3 is released and the diablo trilogy is finished they will try an MMO) thought the diablo universe is small and has less races, and things to make an MMO out of.
