May I ask how the Necromancer, who, aside from the Druid, is the one class fighting for Humanity and Sanctuary, is the evil class? The Paladin, on the other side, could be viewed as the truely evil one, fighting for Heaven, who wants extreme order. In the world of Diablo, niether Heaven or Hell is good, and the Necromancer understands that. I could see the Necromancer killing an angel just as fast as a demon, whereas the Paladin, blinded by faith, would be murdered by an angel while he fights a demon.
Dark class? The Paladin is the dark class from what I can see.
Note: None of this is in reference to any real world religion. Please do not confuse it as such.
when we, or at least i, talk about a "dark" class, im saying their METHODS are dark, not their priorities or allegiances or whatever. so a paladin fighting for the wrong reasons is still a "holy" class, and a necromancer fighting for sanctuary is a "dark' class.
How is using a dead skeleton that has no use for your own gain dark? Its not alive, it's just bone. If anything, it's neutral rather then good or bad...
As for the Paladin, he's more of a lawful evil person, rather then a lawful good person. At least, from everything I've ever seen.
Basically:
Paladin: Lawful Neutral/Lawful Evil
Necromancer Chaotic Good/Neutral Good
The Necro, I believe, was neither good nor bad, light nor dark. He fought against the three to restore balance to the world. If anything, saying he's a dark(er/ish) class is just perpetuating the stereotype that already exists in Sanctuary. (In regards to the Necro.)

Join the Irish Mob. We like almost everybody. Read Pants are Good. It's funny. You'll like it.
Also read Wintendo, as DINGBANG is attempting to play through 764 SNES games in a back catalog.
In that case, the Assassin, who is Neutral Neutral would be "dark" in your eyes... Basically just get some black clothes and you'll be happy.
Exactly. So you might find it funny that the Assassin is my favourite maybe we should have an invisible character. Someone so dark light is afraid to reflect off them....
And I think we are making the same mistake as people(in sanctuary) to label the necromancer as a dark character. He upholds balance. What's with a little innocent skeleton...or some nice poison cloud and a little curse here and there got to do with being a dark character?
Blowing a few demon corpses ain't bad at all either.
The Witch Doctor is totally dark and kickass. Seriously. And just cause you won't see him shopping at Hot Topic it doesn't mean he's not a dark pensive soul.
The Witch Doctor is basically the reincarnation of the but his summons and curses just don't seem all dark when compared to the necro. Zombie wall is about as close as you can get to dark in my opinion
Of course we might get like a mysterious ranger class that has a dark back round or something.
no i think necro could have been expanded on (in its own regard). i dont think it needed any "mage" modifiers. i was disappointed however, the necro had a limited amount of kool summons, like no bone golem and no spirits
Witch Doctor is the new Necro, eat it... theres no way a necro will come back
But for a more "dark" backgrounded character, any of em can have it, we still dont know the in-game lore
I like the darker classes. The Necromancer was my first choice on D2. The whole "dark feel" is why I am such an avid Diablo fan. However, if we are supposedly fighting against evil, the darkest we could be is a neutral, (non-holy, non-evil) character. Which could still be pretty dark. An independant self seeking reaper of sorts. I can't wait.
I dont get how so many people became Necromancer Nut Huggers.
Every time I log on to Diablofans.com, all I seem to be reading about
are people crying over the fact that the barb got the comeback spot
over the game lagging Necromancer.
I just don't think he was that good. The only way he ever did anything
relevant was by spamming homing missiles (Bone Spirit) or by using the
overpowered teleport from Enigma, matched with the lack of clipping
balance with summons who would all focus in the center whenever you teleported, to insta kill in PvP.
Thats' just lame in my book. Kinda like Tele+WW.
Clay,Blood,Fire golems couldn't kill shit. Only an Iron Golem
could but that's just cause he had Iron Maiden.
Skellies were powerful, but were useless in PVP unless matched
with Teleport for focus fire. Since they were so stupid.
Curses were the only thing usefull about a necro in a multiplayer game.
Everytime Hardcore Baal Runs would encounter summoners, everyone would leave since they lagged the shit outa the game.
Poison spells couldn't do shit unless u had 0 resist to poison...
Some will jump on this post and claim Corpse Explosion was so godly, but was it?
In a good Multiplayer game with strong chars, you wouldn''t even have time to blow
up anything before the other players were done with every monsters in the room.
One frozen orb, a Hammer, and a Lightning Jav and boom!, nothing to explode but air.
So...what's so good about the necro again?

What's good about the necro?
1.First of all, the best background story! Please do not even argue this one. It cannot be argued. Why? Because I said so... Nah...jking:P
2.The sarcasm behind his words greeting quests completion beats Sianoq by far...
3.His summons are sexy!
4.His poison spells are even more dangerous than my friend John's fart! Hmmm...debatable this one... I nearly died last time...
5.His curses are....like you said- Great!
6.His bone spells looks....uhm...idk...Is 'cool' a good word?
As for the lag...summoners don't need anybody to play with. If they are looking for ppl to play...they suck! You are surrounded by all these uber-sexy summons and you want a barb in your party.....
Seriously though i find Monica Belluci really HOT! I guess you can find ten reasons why you don't like her(you cannot be serious on this one!), it means only one thing- it's matter of preference.
i dont care what bashiok says, "plague of toads" is something from harry potter.
I dont post much, but i love to read allong, this is the first negative thing i believe to come from Diablo 3 forums that i actually 100% agree with, Plague of toads doesnt appeal to me at all.
Theres so many other great directions you could take this skill. I hope this gets "polished" out of the game.
I just liked the Necromancer because he was unique, a product of good imagination. I am not sure about the 5 classes in D3. A Monk and a wizard seem to be closely related as do a wizard and a witch doctor. I dont see them being real distinguished from each other. I like the idea of a witch doctor to take place of a wizard but it seems we may have an overload of spell casting. I dunno.

I completely agree with duffman. Lore or whatever to me does not make a class dark.

The Necromancer was one of the best classes. The bone skills were better then the Paladin's, as you could actually aim them, the summons were amazing and, when built properly, able to kill most things, and while you might have light or cold or fire immune, rendering sorcs useless, the bones were only immune to one monster (Which I think 1.13 took out, though I may be mistaken.) Of course, you could argue the Paladin's hammers vs the Necromancer's Bone Spear, but the hammers were insanely difficult to aim, and you had to teleport right ontop of the monsters or player to kill them, whereas with the Bone Spear you just pointed and clicked.
Personally, I think the only reason the Necromancer didn't come back in D3 vanilla is because the class was too good. The Barbarian had too many flaws, so they brought it back and tried to make it better.

I never liked that shiny bastard.
When I reffer to dark, I always think in colours and appearence - even if the necro summoned flowers from the ground
Sorry.
