I think that a european styled ranged character could be likely.
I liked that idea for a musketeer. I just think they would need a menacing looking bayonette to go with their rifle/musket.
Back in the day I liked to play the Hammerdin, so just to have that kind of gameplay back again I would like a character that uses some deadly form of a boomerang/chakram weapon that would deal some ranged "arcing" kind of damage.
And maybe a shield that would be used to knock mobs back into ranged distance.
I think it will be a ranged class with some nature abilities, like creating roots to immobilize enemies and pick them off at range. Maybe even shapeshifting or summoning but the summons would be temporary animals or spirits.
I have this strange feeling that they had planned on releasing the ranged class at blizzcon 09 but did not. Maybe they felt the class wasn't ready or they had to redo a lot of the character. I just think that with the ranged class being a known that they would have saved the unexpected monk class for last. Not to mention, a lot of people agree the cinematic seemed rushed. I think they had to throw it together quickly after deciding to not release the ranged class. I think maybe they tried rehashing a familiar character but they didn't think it was original enough or it didn't meet their standards. I would not expect something old, used or familiar for their last class.

The Rouge Hands Down
Good Tribute to D1
and we need a bow class
Think about itPlus I think Jay said they were bringing black someone from the Old games (something along thos lines)
HINT HINT ROUGES!
They were in D2 but not playable and that means his statement about Barb being Last Playable Char to bring back from d2 true!
SEEE PLus im sure they are pissed about what happened in D2 even after 20 years
Your Honor I think Ive Proved my Point
Plus they are SEXY who wouldn't want more skinny girls to come back! EVeryone likes Blondes
I have been thinking that the last class has to have some sort of medium to heavy armor. So far, the WD, the Wiz, and the Monk all use lighter armor. In a game like Diablo, you can't have every class using light armor. So, however they spin the ranged class I think it will make use of some heavier armor.

Ok, I've read this from beginning to end and I think I'm ready to throw in my 2 cents. Here we go:
My first thought would go towards a ranger/hunter type with bows and traps and what-not. Seems like a fairly obvious shoe-in for the class slot. Won't surprose me a bit if this is the one.
I liked the bard idea (bard being my favorite class from D&D) and think that it has merit if they can do it right. Probably moddled after a gypsy. Now it can't be just a support class, it has to be able to do some serious damage on it's own. Maybe juggling could make the bard a good weapon thrower. I also thought of maybe song being the equivalent to the Monk's combo or the barbarians rage. You turn on your singing and it goes down when you are interrupted. The singing can be buffing yourself (and allies of course), or it can be what you use to power your abillities, the more you have the better your spells and abillities work. Songs of stealth, anti-fear, and whatever. I could see this class being something of a thief to.
I then considered what one might get if they threw the bard and the ranger together. Now maybe I'm just weird, but when i did that, i found just a hint of druid in there and I found the changeling. This one is entirely my idea, so feel free to rip it to pieces.
The changeling is someone who as a child was kidnapped by dark forces. In the original stories, these dark forces were faries, but I'm not talking about tinkerbell or the tooth fairy. I'm talking about Pan's Labrynth or Hell Boy 2 tooth fairies. It could also be demons. Anyway, whomever it was who stole this child took the kid and used it as a slave, entertainment, physical plaything, and anything else it wanted. The child is deeply traumatized by all this and for a while looses all sense of who it was. Eventually they gain enough of their sanity back to escape back to the mortal world, but when they do, they find out they haven't even been missed. There was a doppelganger pretending to be them the entire time. Add to this the fact that the changeling returns a little bit less or perhaps more than human. They've been changed by their slavery. They get the abillity to change shape. Add to all this some abillities from the bard or the ranger and we have a very compelling class. Read World of Darkness: Changeling. You'll understand what I'm talking about.
The last one is probably the least likely, but I fealt like throwing it out there.
You seem like such a nice guy, so I won't rip your idea to pieces.
Although "The Changeling" ?
Come on man. Would have been a more original idea to talk about a lion, a scarecrow and a tin-man trying to help a young girl called Dora find her way out of a paranormal dream-zone by defeating the wicked warlock of the north

lol it can still easily be a ranger since who said you cant shoot arrows at melee distance xD

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees

where has it been said that there will be different clasifications of armor i.e heavy, light. as far as iv'e seen there isn't any.

[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]I find your lack of faithdisturbing.
It would be great to see a class that incorporates ranged attacks, traps, and shapeshifting. Bows could be used to pick off foes from afar, traps to keep rushing enemies away from you, and, if all else fails, changing into a beast to go toe-to-toe with your remaining adversaries. No idea what it would be called though...

There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
i believe the last class will be of zon/dru similarities i kind of have a feeling it will be a shapeshifter but also it can use bows and what not that would be pretty nice.
though i hope they wouldnt make them turn into a bear or wolf
what do u think would be an intrestering shapeshifter?
IMO They have brought back the following classes in a round about way:
Barbarian (which was an option along with Bard Class in the original Diablo in .cfg file)
Witchdoctor ( Combines Druid with Necro from D2)
Wizard (Sorceror/ess D1, D2)
Monk (Hellfire, I think combines Assassin with Paladin)
A ranged class would complete the line-up possibly with more supporting skills like the paladin if that hasn't been fleshed out with the Monk class. Or possibly Offensive curse like abilities if that hasnt been fleshed out with the Witchdocter class.
I have been reading through a lot of threads lately and most of them come to the same conclusion, a ranger class of some description. We already know bliz has ruled out the Amazon repeating and flavor wise the ranger would fit. I think that we will have a bow user is fairly much a given (fingers crossed blizzard wont prove me wrong) bows added a third dimension to the way Diablo 2 played and I suspect that the only question is how will blizzard work it in.
Vote 1. Ranger
Vote 2. Hunter
I know 2 different names for vary similar things but I am hedging my bets.

If I have to wait for D3 then please hurry 1.13 for me
So Kill from far. Lots of mark skills that improve its range, its atk spd with the bow, killin fast. Traps to prevent mobs from getting to them or to do massive damage against mobs. Animals like the creatures from WOW dat help tank/atk.
Rogue: Stealth, Bow, +/- Buffs
Someone that basically lurks in the dark, runs up to u in shadows and quickly kills u off. Or someone that uses the environment to there advantage like camafladging themselves with the environment so when u walk by they can easily kill u. Also allows them to flee well. Bows to shoot enemies down, cheap kills! Passive Buffs dat enhance there dodge rates, flee rates, Movement speed as well as negative buffs dat can reduce armor of opponents, slow them down etc.
Gypsy/Bard: Bow, Whip/Guitar, Spd/Stealth
So basically a character similar to the hunter, but has other ways of killing. Its got the bow to shoot from far. so you basically have the same concept of chheap kills and running in circles to kill monsters. But once your surrounded you can switch into close battle mode with the whip//guitar. Whip means you can slash your opponents with AOE technics since incorporates a like 360 degree radius if used correctly. Can nicely be used to combo monsters. Spd/Stealth to allow her to be more durable so basically higher atk spd, higher movement spd, dancing skills to evade monster atks.
The hunter/trapper/rogue idea might explain this image from 1:25 in the artwork trailer (aside from the fact she has no bow... unless that strap/or/chain is holding a set of arrows!!!! 1!1111)...

I think the archivist was a good idea, of course if taken seriously....
Humanity would benefit from its implementation.

I would definitely love to have more demonic and varied forms (or just one big brawler type for general close combat).:)
