K so, darker skin, bows and spears, medium armor (chain mail etc) and no magical powers, hailing from either a desert or a forest. Sounds good. Bring him out Blizzy!
As fast paced as D3 will be, I doubt that traps would be that convenient. I may be wrong but just watching the '4 classes' videos, leaves me believe that this character might fall behind/be slower than the rest of the classes if he has to implement traps? -But I suppose if he was ranged then he would need some kind of initial defense and traps or a pet would probably work with the 'Mercenary'
Well done Scyber!
Blizz, just bring out the friggn game

I'm going to have to agree with some of the other people. The name Mercenary just doesn't seem to fit well. It does need some other, better name.

I agree, I don't know how well these types of traps will be utilized. Should you be able to throw them? Or will you just have to put them down and lure the monsters through them? The latter seems like it would be uneffective in parties. You could have your Barbarian mow through the mobs, or you can wait till they wander back through your traps. However, if you would throw them, like in D2, then it would be way more productive.
Other than the name thing and how exactly the traps would be used, it looks pretty good. Good work Scyber
Yeah, they did say something about it being a returning character but not a class.. and if that is the case, I don't see why they would change the name. if they did that there wouldn't really even be a point in saying it was returning from a past game. Regardless of the way it sounds or how much it fits the look of the character, I agree with the OP, and say that if this *is* the fifth class, they probably are not going to change the name.
I certainly like the idea, because we need a warrior with armor, but also ranged character. My thoughts would be that of a knight.. heavy armor, polearm wielding, and uses crossbows (because they're just so badass, and make sense for siege defense and such) but your suggestion fills those holes as well as fitting into the hint blizzard gave us about it being a returning character.
Who knows what the fifth class will actually be, but I think this might be right on the money. My only complaint is.. yeah, sure, he was wearing chainmail, but it was still looked like big flowy fabric. And we have enough classes in Diablo 3 doing the whole light armor gig. The only one who doesn't is the Barbarian, but it's not like he's wearing any traditional/appropriate armor either. It's all oversized, jagged, and ridiculously impractical.
Blizzard is trying to be unique with these classes, but in the end I still wish we had a straight-up Warrior archetype like we saw in Diablo.

It looks like cloth in the picture in the OP but if you look at him in game, his armor is much more centered around the chain mail with fabric over it to stylize him just like the rest of the classes.
Agreed with the name. It is notthe best but ifthey are using him, why would they change it?

Yeah, they did say something about it being a returning character but not a class.
This is just a thought, and I may get shouted at for it haha, but if its a returning character and we need a ranged one, maybe could it be a Rogue from Act 1? Probably about a 1% chance it will be but who knows. They could make them way different from the amazon since all we know is they used bows. Returning character says to me it will prob be a NPC we saw before. They wan't to do something totally new so a class after an NPC is possible.

I say this is a no-go since there was a class in D1 called the rogue. If I'm not mistaken that rogue the same as the rogues you hire in Act 1.
I'm ashamed to say I never played D1, I know I know I need to fix that but I need to find the game first, I never have been able to. So if that is the case how about the Merc from act 3 from the Wolves? (it was the wolves right?) I could see them doing some pretty awesome things with that. If that was the case that would go perfectly with Scyber's class, maybe a blending of the two might be pretty close!
Why have I not commented on this yet? I didn't read the posts so what I'm about to say surely has been said before.
I think it's a very well thought out thesis scyber. It makes more sense to me than anybody else's class ideas. Not only is it a good guess, but it's a great idea too. I would love to play that class. It really stands out from the other classes to me. I would have to start 2 characters, him and the WD. Plus, I always loved his jabbing technique, very pro.

Mercenary is an awesome name for a class, I have a level 74 Artrell Mercenary in a MUD called Merentha I sometimes play and he wtfpwns everything. Best fighter class in Merentha too. But not that that has anything to do with Diablo. I would totally play this dude.
Okey guys, you do must admit that the classes will be premium characters and its nice that we don't get demons and gods as playable characters. I think that would spoil all the fun.
By the way, how many have booked the game (order it in advance)?
Mathematics is a penumbra, those who hold such an affection to this noble field would find themselves into the realm of the Heirarchy of Abstracts and Paradoxes.
