Hmm, amazon or not? I could never get into the zon myself.
I think it should return, but with much more intricacies, and power.
virtually every bowzon used GA or MS and almost every javazon was a lightning zon in d2.
Maybe make the new char like a Ranger from (like it LOTR) with a range of skills and practicable abilities that other chars like a mage would not have. Giving them an option to aim the bow, manually, with insane bonus the tougher the shot. I dont want to just see a click fest with auto guided arrows, while the GA spell was and is cool, there are much more interesting things that can be done with a aim/range char. I was not a huge fan of chucking spears, so I hope they do without all that java skills, although the java may be important to the story, doubtful.
A true archer would be like a cross between a ranger from LOTR and Robin Hood. Skilled, Deadly,Silent assasin.
The possibilites for cloak and dagger attacks, theft, camoflouge are endless for an archer!
In short Yes, they should bring it archer and make it as good as it should be.
There's a lot of potential for a bow using class that hasn't been touched on in the past games, so I'm sure we'll see another one.
I don't understand some of the thinking in this thread. In my opinion, traps don't work well in this type of game. Neither does anything related to stealth or sneakiness. The game moves too fast for that kind of a class.

diablo 3 wont be that fast moving tougher AI, longer individual battles
I'd like a class with a bow, infact it would be weird it there wasn't one, but I'm not sure about javelins, not a big fan I guess. What I'd REALLY like is a hybrid between an Amazon and an Assasin - A ranged trapper that can go melee with exotic weapons when needed.
Sounds like you want something like Rangers from Guild Wars. ^^-b
Yeah, I played GW for over 3 years so don't mind me. XD! But yeah, I think a "ranger" class would be awesome.
I used to have a Javazon but I never used her much. I used my Bowazon much much more. I had a lot of fun with her so it would be cool to have some kind of ranger class added back into the game.
Like I stated in another thread, I would love a "rogue" class. A class that uses sneak attack, daggers, crossbows. You know? The classic Dungeons and Dragons rogue? Yes yes, I played DnD as well for years. I'm super nerdy. ^^
Anyway, yeah, I think that would be the best thing ever. Sadly, I'm not sure if it's going to happen.
Not really, the ranger class in GW is more like the hunter in WoW(but alot better). What I'd like to see is something like a ranged version of D2's assassin, with the wicked traps and awesome melee weapons, but mainly ranged, such as bows/x-bows.
Oh, I never played a Hunter in WoW so I wouldn't know. I thought you wanted something like the ranger who could use ranged attacks and could be a trapper at the same time. I used to have a build on my ranger for trapping the UW alone but yeah. <_<; That's what I got from it but I get you now.
I would want something like sneak attacking with daggers or what have you, and then using bows/x-bows for the whole long range thing (cause rogues aren't tanks D:).
It's hard to explain. It's kinda like when I used to play with my assassin on D2, I would only play with my barbarian friend because she (it was a female friend lol) would take all the damage while I trapped.
It would have been way better to trap, sneak attack, run away and then shot from a distance while the tank takes the damage from the creature(s).

PArtially agree with you.
I also wish this ranger-rogue-assassin class hehe
His skills could be:
-Stealth skills
-Traps
-Poison Sklls
-Sneak Attacks
-Special Ranged Attacks
-He/She could be good with Bows, Crossbows, Daggers, Katars, Throwing Daggers and One Handed Swords.
-Special suport skills like a new Slow Missiles and a teleport/charge kind of skill.
-Passives bonus focused at high critical and evasion.
Okay, I think it would be weird without some sort of bow-using character. But a little off topic, I want to say, can you imagine how FUN diablo 3 will be for us who are going to be one of the first ones to play it? No cheats, no veteran experience, nothing but pure intellect and luck. There's only one first time.
PArtially agree with you.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. lol.
That's a lot like the Ranger in GW (or the hunter in WoW? I guess) but minus the nature side. More Street style if that makes any sense.
Also the fire arrows should cause some enemies to burst into flames, fire catching onto everything it touches.
The archer should be the equivalent of a modern sniper.
Stealthy, Deadly, Necessary.
It would also be cool if he had Holy arrow or Light arrow, causing irreparable damage to the undead and demons.
Realistically, you should be able to sneak up on a group of enemies. In D2 it did not matter what you did, as soon as you reached a certain distance the enemy knew you were there regardless of how quiet or hidden you were, this was also mainly because of the stale d2 environments.
I want to have a stealth class, everything from the type of boots you are wearing to the gems in your inventory, to the type of armor you have equipped, to the direction the wind is blowing, should contribute to a noise/awareness level which affects your ability to sneak around and ambush enemies.
A relatively perfect assassin archer would be able to avidly sneak up on most type's of monsters, into prime position and deliver quite a bit of damage in their ambush before discovered, many times having this advantage will be critical. Setting traps would be a good idea before you unleash hell (or heaven in this case) upon them.
Just think if enemy AI actually patrolled area's like guards, and actually behaved in a manor, suiting of hells army. (occasionally stopping to torture some poor soul, or gamble with each other or get into fights amongst themselves, or reinforce a barricade or outpost) I don't want to see a giant clusterfluck of enemies , randomly scattered throughout the game, doing nothing but idling, waiting for you to come in range... I want to see some structure please.
For example, an assassin should be able to sneak behind a patrolling guard, slipping a particularly powerful explosive inside his satchel , disposing of a multitude of high end demons in one swift blast. Why not just throw it at them? This Ai is so good they see your attempt and be ready to toss it away or back at you at any moment. This AI should be at the level of almost impossibly endless scenarios.
I anticipate some parts of D3 are going to take hours to get past, while only facing a few select , unbelievably powerful foes, before facing off against the boss!
In light of Blizzards new AI /Enviroment changes and upgrades I already know a stealthy assasin class is inevivtable, lets just hope they make this one right, a skilled bow warrior, with insight and skill as well as stealth of unimaginable proportions.
yeah , throwing a spear four hundred yards, right on target , a few thousand times in a row is a little to far fetched, I dont think anyone was a fan of the java class...
The spear class however, I envision a spartan warrior, almost impenetrable, being able to push monsters into death pits, defend casters and ranged classes like the archer from hells flanking minions.
The spear class could go places, (throwing your spear should be a finishing move, where you lose your spear until retrieved, however it should impale the enemy, maybe sticking them to a wall or rock, giving everyone free hits at the squirming punching bag.
There's no doubt spears are bad ass. Creating an entire class around it is not so.
Just give a barb a spear. But instead of a stick, make it more like an impaling pole
Well Not an entire class, but a class available exclusively to the archer/amazon. instead of having java and spear , cut the java, keep spear only, add bow , add stealth/skill, done.
as far as the skills themselves I will leave that to the masterminds.
Why not?, It's not like it takes alot of time to prepare, you just throw it and watch the fireworks... or you rip out the monsters' guts while they are being scorched by your infernal machines. That's pretty action-y to me. Awesome too.
What's the difference between throwing a trap and throwing a ball of ice?
dub Lucifer, I think your ideas are cool, but they don't work in this game. Jay Wilson said that this game is, first and foremost, a cooperative game. What you're suggesting would not work well with the other classes, in my opinion. It would slow down the game play. Do you expect your teammates to stop every ten feet while you set traps and kill everything? It would make those sets of skills near useless for cooperative play. This game is about bashing hundreds of demons' heads in and spamming massive amounts of over the top magic; not waiting around while your teammates booby trap the place.
It's the same difference between throwing a grenade and throwing a mine, the one deals damage directly and the other one needs to be triggered which in this case, a minster must be within range for the trap to activate.

Well, I didn't find a problem with Traps spec-ed Assassins in D2, I don't see why it wouldn't work in D3.
What he wants is very different from how traps worked in Diablo 2. I always thought traps in D2 were boring. I know I never used them on my assassins. If they want to throw in Solid Snake as a class like dub Lucifer is suggesting, I probably won't care. I just want to bash things with a barbarian.

A bow us a must, but a javalin user can be or not. Javalin is such a strange weapon to a dungeon crawler game O_o''
