In the Mtv video interview, he implies(or you could deduce) that they have more working playable character classes than would be released with the game. Suggesting that they would cut some in favor of balance.
Without a doubt- I think they are going to be throwing a bunch of cool surprises at us.
They have also stated that while the FAQ and official announcement says 5 classes, that is not a hard limit, and they may end up with more in the actual release. That, coupled with the possibility of expansions makes me believe we will see most of the classes from D2 in some form as playable, just very retooled.
I think the druid will be back as a shapeshifting based character, and the Necro may appear sans certain curses (the witch doctor looks like he got the AI affecting curses, but it makes me wonder about things like amp damage and decrepify) and focusing more on skellies and bone magic than poison.....
Why is everyone saying that the WD replaced the Necro, so far he doesn't have as much minions and he doesn't even need to kill enemies to summon his pets.
Here's my new idea of a Necromancer Warrior
Dark Knight (Necro + Paladin)
When he kills enemies with his combat skills they come back from the dead as skeletons, wraiths, revenants, etc.
Magic and Bone spells to help him fight his enemies and heal his minions

it seems to be pretty good, but yur idea is on the necro's side

proly because WD uses poison, undead, curses and has pets.
But you never know, we'll see about the necro.

Yeah, except that he's actually melee like the Pal.
He reminds a bit too much of the Death Knight from WC3 though.
lol i was gonna say "also he's like the Death Knight from W3"
and the melee part is good, but i meant like will he still be gettin some similar spells like Fist of the Heavens, Zeal, Fantacism all that? well reversed you know like the unholy side of the spells

Actually I was thinking that the auras would be somewhat a mix up between curses and Pal auras. Like you could use auras to buff up your army or you could use auras that act like let's say dim vision but cost mana while active, but it shouldn't matter if you have mana leach.
You could like permanently cast some of the old Necro curses like Life Tap which the WD wouldn't have.
For the melee part, I was thinking of giving him abilities that deals a lot of elemental damage to his attacks but hit only one unit. You could then if you want use weapons like Scythes to deal splash damage raising minions more quickly.
Note that he could also have abilities like Zeal or Sacrifice.
As for the Bone tree, you could actually use support spells, like bone prison against enemies to give you more mobcontrol but again not like the WD.
I was also thinking about using abilities to heal your minions or that make you kill one of them to regain life and mana.
While being at it why not give the Dark Knight an ability that allows him to summon Bone Swords that spin around him acting like the Assassin Blade Barrier, that would be awesome.
Well, that might be nothing, but it also could mean something.
In the bestiary in the official Diablo III site, there's a text about the Undead. Talking about skeletons there's this interesting piece:
this could either mean they'll keep him in the game, or they'll just keep him for the lore's sake cause its THE class that has most to do with the Undead.
any thoughts about it?
That is more lore related though, necromancers are a part of the diablo universe, you might face them, doesn't mean you will play one, i doubt there will be 2 summon classes at release, but we might see them in an expansion pack after 1-2 years.
I highly doubt that they will keep the Necromancer in the game. The new class, Witch Doctor, seems to be its replacement including the Druid. But who knows, Blizzard does seem to suprise us all the time.

ooh it sounds neat, maybe for the FotH u get undead hands coming out of the ground or lots of undead zombies and skeletons appear for a short time and attacks all the surrounding monsters
Okay. I'm guessing you don't understand basic economics. That's fine, part of the learning curve of life.
I would that it most definitely is not part of the learning curve of life. I would go as far to say that 95% of Americans don't understand basic principles of economics.

Why did they make Diablo, Diablo 2, and now- Diablo 3? Once you figure out the real answer, then you'll realize that there will be an expansion.

but you do make a point with the necromancer being in the game
