"In the Grim Darkness of the Far Future There is Only War" Seems like a good way to sum up the starcraft universe after the rise of the Zerg and the destruction of the protoss home world. But somehow everything looks SOOO clean.
If you take a look at any of the screenshots you can see that everything is far too bright and not realistic. Warcraft was always the cartoony game and starcraft always looked the most realistic it could for the time when it was made. I feel the new SCII is drifting down too far down the path warcraft 3 took with the anime type feel.
Does anyone else wish all the units and buildings looked a bit more beat up? Escpecially the terran race.

I've actually made this point several times over. But maybe we can start assuming that after the initial wars in the first Starcraft, Terran technology has progressed by leaps and bounds and this could account for how different things look. Oh, that and it's all in 3D now.

Yeah. Protoss interaction surely must have given Terran scientists great inspiration, and it doesn't make sense for these kinds of things to be rusty. Space equipment needs to be top notch, I mean when you're travelling thorugh space at high speeds even single dust particles can create huge damage. So constant maintenace, or some "force-field" technology which keeps the equipment safe and clean looking is needed. Either that, or extremely durable metals.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

so making it 3d makes it automatically bright..... right... Then why doesnt a game like Company of Heroes have bright textures that are completely unrealistic?? Starcraft 2 does look cartoony and completely fake with its bright colours and when a race is constantly fighting like the Terran race is, over time things would start to look a bit beat up.
just take a look at this link http://media.pc.ign.com/media/850/850126/img_4788783.html (hopefully it brings you to the right picture). all the marines look totally very unrealistic... escpecially with those shields which imo were a bad idea

Yeah, space equipment should be in top notch, but in Starcraft, most these units can only be used on planets and space platforms.
But at any rate, it seems there is a precarious peace between Raynor's group and the Protoss, so it's not totally unreasonable that maybe the Protoss shared technological secrets with certain Terrans. Of course, most Protoss technology seems to be based on psionic energy. Something that Terrans only have in lesser amounts.
No, I'm not kidding. Company of Heroes is programmed in a completely different manner and the emphasis is on detail. In SC2, the emphasis is somewhere else and I need better videos to say where exactly.

what does unit count have to do with it...??
also it would be a simple matter of changing the colours.. then boom problem solved. I actually saw this one screenshot where this guy changed the colours more to his liking to make it look morea beat up. Looked absolutely brilliant
Simply terran units look like toys right now, they need to look more battle worn
LOL Everything. When a 3D game is made, it is limited in terms of polygon count and texture size. If the game has a lot of units, that means there will be less polygons per unit (RTS, RPG). If the game has little units, the polygon count is large per unit (FPS)... Same goes for textures...

Change of colors would do nothing. Except change colors...

First of all, I'm pretty sure he didn't just change colors, but actually drew a new, more detailed texture. The problem is, detailed textures are much more heavier than just smuged textures which WC3 has.
Textures with low resolution simply cannot look realistic because you can't add inner detail to them... if you want to add detail - need to increase texture size. In an RTS game with a lot of units, hard to do.

True, but you'd think the streamlining at least is based on hard physics that can be copied by Terran Scientists.

I would have been content if it kept it with it's origional graphics

i think it looks like the old starcraft in design and style just in 3d.... 3d allows high resolutionwithout advantages, an you dont have to motion capture all units at angles and stuff so it saves time in developping and makes it easier to add more units
3D you can turn camera around and look behind walls and stuff
you also dont get like problem when rendering floaty guys or jumpers and flyin stuffs like bugs or anything in code or display. With 3d you can really have a up down axis

this is not part of my post, this is a signature, it's not a really big signature for now but maybe some time later it will have cool pictures and more information and stuff on it like from games or some other things i don't know

It's just that Starcraft was 2D and SCII is 3D.

LOL omfg... please tell me your kidding hahahaha?
its hard to tell over the internet
I don't believe my own words...
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
