I got really excited because the frontpage made me think it was a wowhead for diablo. Turns out its only for guides, but nonetheless still a great resource
I have been trying to make such a database, but I'm simply not smart enough Huck has a great one he's working on as a personal project here: http://www.leviatha.org/
Now that beta is almost here, I finally got the spur of inspiration to work on something, so submission works again and has some basic dynamic validation with JS, a new form GUI, and has been updated with new guide parameters (version, expansion).
Working on pagination for search results atm. (Search results style has been updated, but you may need to refresh your screen a couple of times to see the difference.)
The skin for the entire website has been updated to look more Diablo-y, and with a beautiful new logo by Caniroth. Check it out, tell me if anything odd is happening, etc. (Your browser must meet the modern specs in the OP of this thread!)
I meant to do this a while ago. At first, I was going to wrap it in accounts and a bunch of other junk, but this approach seems more simple.
When you view a guide, it will prompt you for simple feedback about the guide. If you liked it, click yes. This slightly increases the search placement of this guide in searches. I call this a promotion. The formula, if you're interested:
Guide's Total Promotions / 10^(Number of digits of (Guide's Total Promotions))
So, if a guide has 20 promotions, it will do the following:
20 / 10^(Number of digits of (20))
20 / 10^2
20 / 100
0.2
This 0.2 is then added to a relevancy calculation based on matching search terms with keywords, matching game version, matching character class, etc. In most cases, it will only bump by one slot. This is intentional. It gives it a slight boost, but it doesn't break the whole system already in place:
238 / 10^(Number of digits of (238))
238 / 10^3
238 / 1000
0.238
This process records your IP address (or your proxy IP). If you already promoted it on an IP, it doesn't let you do so again on that same IP. No login required. It's also not a super-uber security thing, so if you want to go in your school's computer labs and give it 123 promotions (boosts it 0.123 in relevancy), go ahead
I'm going to integrate recently promoted and top promoted content into the home page eventually.
Enjoy! (Almost to 10,000 additional hits for guide writers! I think like...40 more hits total?)
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
There we go. Now it adds 0.1 to the number of promotions in the script (not in the DB) if the number ends in a zero, so it's place is preserved (while it doesn't allow it to overcome a whole promotion)
And I added a mini version of the guide search box to every page but the main page (so you don't have to click back to the home page to do a search.)
in case you dont know, "Uber slaying Fury Druid" returns "Gamersvault.net - Where games and communities are what matter - Error

Firebolt has been updated to handle Diablo III beta! Add some of your guides -- you'll find all of the classes and passive and active skills have already been added. The process takes a couple of minutes at worst and is pretty much guaranteed to get your guide noticed
(I'll move this thread to Diablo Theorycrafting or General once the full game releases.)

And, since I'm so productive trying to find ways to waste time until midnight and Skyrim orgasms, I updated the home page's bottom section to include the site's Twitter feed, new guides, and I redesigned it so it's a little simpler
You're site is very helpful. I managed to find a nice Martial Arts Assassin build.
Also, are you still taking up residence in the wall hole in the Tavern or can I get a scorpion in there to clean it up real nice and advertise for rent?

Cool stuff. It's looking great!
Your encouragement really makes Seth happy
