After just watching the armor previews for some of the classes, I started thinking about transmogrification. If you're not familiar, transmog is a feature in WoW and other MMOs that uses the appearance of one piece of gear while swapping its stats for another's; in other words, being able to customize your appearance at all times.
While I haven't messed with this feature much myself in WoW, I know that it's become extremely popular, and after looking at all those awesome armor sets for D3, I can tell that some people are going to prefer certain ones over others.
So what do you think, will Blizzard ever implement transmogrification in D3, or will they just stick with the dye system that's in the game now? If transmog was available, would you use it, or do you prefer being able to tell immediately what kind of gear someone has based on their overall appearance?

i would choose my own religion and worship my own spirit, but if he ever preached to me i wouldn't want to hear it. i'd drop him, a forgotten god, languishing in shame; and then if i hit stormy seas, i'd have myself to blame.
It would certainly be a good expansion addition, at some point.

It has been said... that in the end of all things... we would find a new beginning. But as the shadow once again crawls across our world... and the stench of terror drifts on a bitter wind... the people pray for strength and guidance. They should pray for the mercy of a swift death... for I've seen what the darkness hides!
... I don't think it's safe here.
Hoping for Pink Chain Lightning in D3!

I can see this being a bit messy... Say you "transfigured" from a chest with blue dye, does the dye transfer over? if so and you want to re-dye your armor do you have to die the old armor, then transfigure from it again? Just seems messy.... Also I want it to be messy because I don't want it to be a feature :P.
I don't think transmog (on that note, let's not pretend they coined anything but the term...) is conducive to Diablo III the way it is to WoW.
World of Warcraft represents an ever-changing world of content, and with each new expansion of dungeons/raids (and since the beginning of TBC, PVP seasons) etc you get different "tiers" of armor.
These represent the highest possible gear at the time, and are obsoleted as soon as the new expansion or content patch hits.
Diablo III, on the other hand, has a natural flow of gear pre-designed in. I think they've almost certainly made great strides to ensure that the highest tiers look the best, and you can get plenty of customization out of that + armor dyes. I suppose you might make a point if you wanted to wear crap-looking armor and actually utilize the stats of higher tiers, but why would you do that? WoW transmog is mainly meant to allow players to use their favorite gear from years ago, not necessarily just the green quest rewards from some random zone, which is more akin to what you'd be wearing if you used anything but the higher tiers of Diablo III gear. Imo.
I don't play WoW so I don't know how this works there but I prefer when the stats match the look of the armor. I can't remember but I think somewhere when they were talking about armor design that they wanted the stats of the item to match the look of the item.
All i know is i would rather have my barb in a barbaric looking armor than running around in demon cosplay. And thats why i think transmog would be a good option for diablo 3.

When you craft an item with random affixes it doesn't randomly change the look of the item. So this isn't going to happen anywhere except possibly Legendaries.

Another thing to consider is the time while you're trying to piece together a whole armor set. In D2 it could take weeks/months to do this. So let's say that you have 4/5 pieces but the non-set shoulders you have just don't look good with the rest; you could transmog that one piece temporarily to something else that looks good, then forget about transmogging when you finally get those shoulders. Then again, maybe everything will look good together model-wise, and it'll just be a matter of changing the color with a dye. It seems like most people transmog stuff in WoW to fit a certain color scheme, and dyes take care of that already.

I would be really down for this. If it was for pieces of gear you've previously acquired, wouldn't want some low level in some awesome HC looking gear. Would make me jelly =P

The character should meet the items level requirements to wear both items (stats and looks)
It would be cool to have the option but it would also make it so it is hard to identify what others are using without having to look up their crap. On another side note since everyone likes to complain about how PvP would take away development resources and they could be better put in PvM, this is a feature that I would rather not have because the resources are better used on something else.
LOL @ this post, Transmog in wow was really used for converting tier gear with the same stats as everyone else got and customising it for your spec.
If diablo is all about finding *That* piece of gear that is just better than the one you have, it sort of makes it redundant in my mind.
Dont see the point of messing with a core feature of the game...

Ha. Bagstone.
Sounds to me like you are upset that they would even consider putting useful features into Diablo.
Transmogrification would allow us to use upgrades without hating our lives for mismatching/looking terrible.
WoW is also not the only game to feature options like that.
DCUO had it.
Now shush and go sit down.

I think he meant the range of stats but IDK.
In the other hand an almost naked barbarian with inferno stats would be pretty awesome and barbaric!

No self respecting barb would siege the gates of hell wearing armor.
