The main issue with the random dungeon scrolls of Torchlight was the lack of depth and lore. It kinda made you lose interest after a while.
Is it viable as Diablo III end-game? Definitely, if they add it properly. Add real quests and lore in it and it's awesome. But isn't it about as the random encounters are going to work?
I have to just jump in on this one here, totally agree with the disinterest in lore, or any concept to progression. Now I did beat Torchlight, but I got so scooped up in the random dungeon scrolls that I almost forgot about the story. I loved being decked out but then when I went back to the dungeons I was god knows how many levels above the content.
Basically I like the idea of having a difficulty that has a rough estimate of your level progression and definately don't mind there being a level cap raise up with additional expansions. In short, I never reached max level mainly because I saw just how ridiculous it was to obtain it.
i don't think something like a week of grinding to hit the last lvl would kill som1
Well one week of grinding isn't bad at all (especially if you compare it to D2), but Blizz doesn't want D3 to be a "grinding" game. It's all about fun, not repeating the same thing over and over (even though in D2 it still was pretty fun). lol
=) i understand
but sometimes i ask myself.. why d2 was so GREAT if there was so many wrong things, according to blizz, sure wasn't a perfect game.. but for me the best one at all
for me the best answer at this lvl discussion is something between "d299wtflvling way" and the new 60 by the end of hell.. as i said, grinding some days.. but it's actually a minor problem
Well I think my question to that would be, was D2 so great for getting to level 99? I have many friends who played D2 and LoD. We loved it, but we never ever reached cap, never cared for it, mainly because it was an extra step that wasn't any fun. Now maybe being 60 can mean that you have beaten the game on Hell, rather than it being that you've beaten the game on Hell and killed Baal enough times to erase him from existence.

In regards to the level 99 cap. I liked the level 99 cap because not every single character in the game was level 99. In fact most characters stopped at around 88. I liked seeing 87's, 88's, 89's being all just as powerful as each other. I believe because level and gear was the only prestige aspect in D2 so it grew on people. Some people got really giddy when they were a level 85 and beat a level 90 in a duel. I do have to say, the little things in D2 turned out to get important because, simply put there was nothing else to do. If D3 implements the endgame and could even somehow implement events, I will be satisfied. I just want for their to be a way to keep things interesting. The level 99 cap was perfect for D2 because of the lack of end game, despite what people may say. It did add playability. All together, D3 is a very different game. I realize that now, but am still remaining cautiously optimistic about D3 endgame content.
This is diablo we're talking about not fucking World of Warcraft Blizzard needs to treat us like diablo players and treat DiAblo like Diablo reducing it to what WoW does not make it a better game and what just to get our money great job blizzard you're turning into call of duty thats just great
I enjoyed the working for that so far away 99... Everyone wanted a 99 at first than after a while at lvl 70-80 ppl started to fall away... My dad kept going and had a 99 sorc then she got hacked and deleted. I think that it should at least take a few days after completing the game to max lvl. Ive had a few high levels and I always marveled at the ones still seeemingly so infinitely far away. It gave them a lvl of prestige as someone said earlier. Instant lvl 60 will make it like City of Heroes. Boring because everyone is maxed... I think slower is better.
I don't know how long it takes to complete the game on all three modes, by the way the dev team was dodgy to answer the question so many times (even an estimate) I'll assume it could be shorter than D2 plus LoD.
That beign said I vote a lot of grinding after game completion. Level 60 should be really hard and an achievement.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
Did they ever stated a reason why it's 60?
(in term of the actual number)
What makes 60 better than 75 as example.
I don't really dig the Normal 30, Nightmare 20, Hell 10 = 60 thing.
First because it does not match DII in playing pace nor level pace and playing time(story mode).
P.S. I think a few days (2-3 h per day) of grinding to hit cap after story would be fine.
My theory :
They want to have the max level increases with expansions like WoW.
So 60, 80 first expansion then 100 second expansion.
As stated numerous times, level 60 is the new level 99, not a restriction to keep you from getting as strong as characters in Diablo 2 with a level 99 cap. It will take longer to level at a earlier time, but each level will actually have a noticeable difference. You'll probably experience about the same amount of time wasted to get to 60 as you did 99, perhaps a bit more since this game is suppose to be harder than the previous, so I've heard.

It was stated you get to level 60 at the end of hell, without grinding.
I've only read the first page of suggestions to this thread, but man its long.
If blizzard could do something cool about d3 they should implement the dungeon/raid processes
from WoW into d3 for the 'end-game' players. i mean you can get better gear by doing something like these, theyre hella fun.
And in the end when the new expansion comes out they can add more of these raids and stuff. Maybe even take a map from diablo 1 and make it a raid, how cool would that be? I should really be studying for my biology midterm tomorrow but

can we do a poll on whether i should take an english summer course from may15-june 17th? or if i should just game my brains out beginning the midnight release date on may 15tth?
One of the things that kept you playing Diablo was the fact that you were never capped, at least not the average player. You could "always" progress further, even though it would take literally thousands and thousands of games. If you hit the max level, had all the best gear, what's the point in playing more?
Idk, mfing, getting perfect gear, making more characters, ubering, finding uber diablo. When they introduced those aspects to d2
it made it alot funner, hopefully in d3 they have things like this that make the game funner

I guess you could keep playing because it's fun? If the whole point of the game to someone is getting to 60 and getting the best possible gear, then I don't see why they would play in the first place. For me, the fun is just smashing demons and getting epic loots in the process.
There's also gonna be PvP to do, and an expansion or two.

I'll definitely play PvP once I've maxed every class and gotten all the loot I want. I'm glad they made it a separate mode, it could add a lot of re-playability to this game.
Given the blue posts and interviews we already know the answer lies somewhere in between the first three choices.
The 4th choice is just blatantly not possible, and the 3rd is a stretch at best.

Keep in mind this topic is more than a year old. You're posting in a necro'd thread. I thought the same thing that you did until I went and looked at the original date.
Nowadays we at least know that it took Bashiok until ~32 to get a Demon Hunter out of Normal, and ~55 to get it out of Nightmare.

I thought you guys were talking about D2 classic(that was pain), just now I realized it's LoD.
