I'm sure this has been discussed here before, but I didn't want to search and necro an old post. We all know what would happen to me then. So, what are peoples thoughts on achievements in Diablo? Love them, hate them or indifferent? Personally, I love them. Not even to be an elitist or whatever. I just like doing them and seeing if I can accomplish them. Anyone have any interesting views?
Personally I think the whole achievement thing has been done to death. It's more of a required element in games nowadays than a "Oh look what I did" kinda thing.
I still think they're neat, little goals to do to get some cool rewards though. Also they make nice time wasters, if you're going for a tricky achievement.
It starts to head in the wrong direction when you're spending hours and hours banging your head against the wall doing some meticulous requirement though. They should be fun little things. Sure they can be tricky, but not borderline impossible.
Personally i love achievements, adds more fun to the game. Specially if you are playing with a friend, and i bet there will be some wierd stuff for us like, kill diablo with melee attacks playing as wizard:)))
Wow, if they make achievements like "Finish Hell with only melee attacks" that would be a crazy hard achievement lol.

I agree with you 100%, Aldrek. I hate meticulous achievements. They should never be used as 'elitist' fodder nd should be achievable by anyone at anytime. I hate 'exclusive' achievements, like 'be the first to do this' or 'be the first to do that'. They should be something that requires more determination than effort or random luck. With that said, if they put some crazy ones in there, I'll still probably end up trying to do them, I just wont like it!
EDIT: On another note, I would like to see achievements associated with set items (if they are actually confirmed to be in the game. Anyone? Gosh, I hope so!) That way you could 'collect' the various sets without actually having to hold on to the darn things. With that said, I think they should only unlock when you own all pieces at once and not 'Get a piece, unlock part of the achievement, get rid of it, get another piece, etc'. In other words, you would have to actually hang on to the individual pieces till you had the whole set. Then, and only then, would the achievement unlock, you get the achievement, then you can discard, sell, trade, etc... Just my thoughts.

I don't mind crazy achievements, just as long as they don't take me a whole year to do. *cough* This *cough*

OUCH! That's brutal. I probably simply wouldn't even attempt that one, at least not until I progressed through it enough that I could actually see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Yeah, it sucks. I did it once and only once. Took me more than a year, because I couldn't do one part of one achievement the first time around. Imagine waiting a whole month longer for 1/4th of 1/6th of 1/8th of an achievement.

It wasn't a big deal if you were already raiding/playing anyway it just came naturally

other than that I share your opinion . only achieves I don't like are those that make it mandatory to co-op or PvP to complete . individual ones are 100% fine by me because they indicate about your own PVE skills which for me is what this game is all about.
I'm trying again though.
The only one you are unlikely to do without someone helping you on purpose in the beta is rezzing each class.
