I guess I would have to give their version of "fury" a try before i made judgment. Depending on how it plays when i play it ill know more of course. Like everyone else, i hope they actually manage to make these "unique" sources of energy fun and equally useful.
having fury is a nice change from diablo 2. mana on the barbarian... just didnt work, especially with expensive things like whirlwind. i like the idea of being able to concentrait on combat, and not having to worry about mana pots or getting manasteal. thinking of it like this makes more sense, culturewise.
as for the abilities, having abilities relating back to the culture is another good idea, but having straight fury doesnt justify the idea that he can summon powers in his attacks just from being angry. id be happy with the idea that his ancestors are helping or whatever.
I think for a tank class put that kind of feature is great. It's encouraging people to be in the middle of actions (the supposed behavior for a tank). Who's complain about the named feature "fury", don't fear it's just a name, the game will be a diablo-like not a MMO. Fury is a good idea and why change a winning formula ?
Euh you put a "s" but it will have only one tank -> barbare !!
And why you don't want a tank !! it's a primary in this kind of game. In many game they have more than 1 tank, but in d3 they will have only one, one tank that make strong and physical job, it's a must.
Its true that the barb will survive more than a wizard will if they both take the same ammount of damage, the barb has some skills that help him accomplish that, so it makes him a tank. But, unlike other games where a tank cant do shit except of tanking (taking all the damage), the D3 barb will be able to kill alot of monsters just as any other class... So i guess that does make him not a tank after all... But he is a tank... A little confusing i'd say

In D2, we were not reliant on group play in order to achieve loot. as I developed my characters with progressing drops of higher MF, my runs got easier and was what I considered part of character development.
I absolutely loathe the prospect of D3 becoming WoW-like in play (I know Diablo is an RPG and WoW isn't but still...). With "tanking", "melee" and "healing" classes (just as examples) this could well be the case if that is the direction they are going.
I loved to solo the three brothers. I don't want to rely upon group play to do this.

What is best in life? To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.
Good for you you don't have to then, every class will be capable of soloing.
In WoW, you have to.
I know, D3 isn't Wow and I understand I may be too paranoid when it comes to how the are developing D3. Somethings in WoW (like the AH, etc) was good. The reliance upon others to achieve goals was bad.
I hope they don't remove the "soloability". I want to be able to achieve everything in solo play that you can in group play.

You will be able to achieve everything, but it will be easier when in a group. They are designing D3 to be co-op optimized.
Bad news there, very bad news.
This means that it will be like 10/25 man play in WoW. You can do any of it, but the rewards for doing the more difficult 25 man is greater than the award for doing the 10 man so certain gear standards will be unattainable unless you capitulate and do group play.

I agree with whoever posted "they're just changing things to change them". I like the health/mana system a lot, but the new system they are implementing is also promising. I mean it's not a huge deal.. I guess it changes the classes up a bit. Basically I don't care because I'm not playing a barbarian
Difficulty is determined by the number of player in the game. That is how it was set for the demo this year anyway. If it is your desire to solo, you can. If it is your desire to play with a party, you can do that instead.
Regarding the Fury system, it played a hell of a lot better than I thought it would. However, I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss mana.
Good news there Eldius...thank you.

Me too. Some people fail to understand that not all changes are to fix stuff, that D3 are not a upgraded D2.
It's a new game. Some changes are made not to fix old bad stuff but to improve old good stuff to a next level of quality.
To know if this system will work or not, first we gotta play with it. For now i'm happy they are experimenting new possibilities.
ok as you know i was the one who made this topic and its been like 2 months since i did lol and now i watched some gameplay with the fury and it actually looks really awesome!!
You are a tank build Barbarian, you must fight a boss in melee combat. You lose because your damage is not high enough.
Example 2:
You bring a Wizard friend. You can still tank the boss, and the Wizard can provide the damage needed to finish it.
And otherwise : you able to kill a boss but when someone come in game the difficulty increase, and he's has a poor build and don't help you enough to kill the boss.
Of course, very possible, but it is going to be an advantage in most cases. If you don't need help, why would you even party? If you don't care about having company that is.
better loot ? I don't know ?
I want it more harder / challenging with more people, because it's fun to make a team strategy and planning build to fit and make you stronger with your friend (aura will bring this kind of fun :)) If it's easier with more people I consider the balancing failed, it's need to have an equal difficulty or more harder depending how strong are the build of people. (but you can have good build but it's not a good match for certain build, exemple : aura +x% physical damage will be effective with a barb but with a sorc....)

Yea i forgot to mention that
It reminds me of the BAttle Ragers from Forgotten Realms...

When people join a game monsters get stronger we all know that.
With a good team that knows the meaning of teamwork it will be easier.
Normally whatever soloing or multiplaying, if you aren't good you'll have difficulty !
