Anybody finds it odd that Diablo3 starts the same way as the failed expansion of Diablo 1, Hellfire, with a comet falling on Tristram. Next thing you'll know is that there's a NPC in New Tristram called Lester the farmer lol. Also wonder if the Defiler was in the comet...
Besides what's the deal with Tristram Cathedral, I always thought it was a small church, but from the gameplay trailer it looked like a gigantic monastery.
Is it possible that the comet dug up some new sections of the infamous labyrinth underneath Tristram?
what i think is funny with that comet is that tristram was not utterly destoyed by a comet at that size. it would in real life, but yet this a different world:D

You do have to remember, that this Monestary was once a Horadric temple (or something like that), which later became posessed by Diablo himself, and then it began to fester into the shape that we saw it in DII. But still survived.
So this Monestary definately has some sort of great power enchanting it to prevent its destruction. I forsee a much larger role in DIII for the Monestary.

Even tiny meteorites can be brilliant during descent. You really can't very well judge the size of the object by the size of the fireball, as the latter depends on everything from the object's composition to its angle of entry.
For example, this bright meteorite travelled halfway across the United States and ultimately just left a dent in someone's car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sByie3TUsuw

The one thing that I have problems regarding the Meteor (comet is more appropriate)
Comet is the least appropriate term if we're actually talking space debris.
Asteroids are extremely large rocks, some the size of small planets.
Comets are also large rocks, but with a large quantity of ice as well, which slowly boils off into a long trail of gas. They take weeks to move across the sky.
Meteoroids are smaller rocks. When they enter an atmosphere and ignite, they are called meteors. They move through the atmosphere at the speed shown in the cinematic. If they impact, they are called meteorites.
Sorry for astro-geeking out, but 'comet is more appropriate' set off a reflex. A typographical twitch.

Now we know that in regular descent of Meteors, these fragments are parts which fall off. What is falling off of this one? Is it just extra effects to promote is as a Meteor, or is there something more to it? (i.e. Angel wings burning off, clothes?).
My first thought on seeing the trailer, after seeing the concept art, was that it was Tyrael plummeting to Sanctuary after being judged by the Angiris Council, since it has been established since the destruction of the Worldstone that the wrath of Heaven is quite fiery -- Tyrael's sword engulfs in orange flame when he hurls it towards the Worldstone, and likewise the Angel who confronts Tyrael here himself ignites to do so, and the same sort of fire is also seen burning from Tyrael's chest here, as well as where his wings are being severed in the same image. So, I think more wings tearing off during his fall is the most likely explanation. He has fourteen, right? Judging by the concept art depicting him wingless, he did not seem to lose any clothing.
It's also possible that the cinematic artists were simply told to depict a meteor streaking across the sky, without being told what it was.
Alternatively, we could be totally off-track.

Really? It looks an awful lot like Tyrael in the foreground, to me.
Unless Cain has taken to wearing a cowl and huge gloves. And sprouted wings.
As for the structure, I assumed it was the Angiris Council, not the Tristram Cathedral.
Edit: But, looking at these two concept pieces for the Tristram Cathedral, you may very well be right: 1, 2
Edit #2: I watched the end of the trailer again, and yes, it is definitely the interior of the Tristram Cathedral, so there goes my interpretation. I'm still not sure how I'm misperceiving the sketch, but since everything else fits, I'll let it go. Heh.

Also, I guess a really magically powerful church could withstand the impact of a really really tiny meteor, if it came down slowly, which Tyrael probably tried to do. But by all rights the girl should be dead.

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
Well that's what I understood the first time but it just looks nothing like it.
I thought at first that it could have been because of the comet but I'm not sure.
What the hell happened to this dungeon? It's pretty neat and all but don't tell me it's the same place we went through in D1. That just doesn't make any sense.
How does it not make any sense? It's the same Cathedral, what else do you expect to find underneath there other than what we ventured through in Diablo I. I wouldn't think they excavated it during the 20 years.
It is possible that the meteor, being the size it was, did not pierce through all the layers of the catacombs and probably only reached around basement floor 3 or so. Given that the meteor didn't totally destroy the Cathedral, I wouldn't expect it to go all the way through the Catacombs to Hell either.
That's how it looked in D1
Now that's how it looks like in D3
What's the deal with all the bridges and the chasms, it's definately not the same dungeon.

It's a better dungeon!
I like the new look - so who cares if it's different than D1?

Yeah it's without a doubt better, but just saying that this is the new Dungeon from D1 creates a huge plot hole since it's definitely not the same.
What if it wasn't the same dungeon. Is it possible that there are other dungeons near Tristram?
Leoric was a king right, didn't he have a castle? The zone outside is called Leoric Highland, maybe the tomb we saw is part of the catacombs beneath Leoric's castle or something.

Is it supposed to be part of the labyrinth underneath Tristram or is it some giant catacombs located nearby?
