Hey there, u sh*t eatin maniacs. ehehaha
no,no i was just kiddin there fellors. ehe
Tell me about all your favorite rpgs from Japan. I got into these types of games late, maybe almost 2 years ago or so i played Chrono Trigger first. Then i played Final Fantasys 1,2,3,4,5,6. Chrono Triggers still my fav. jap rpg so far. Some years back someone told me about Final Fantasy, an i said something like "naw, i dont play those types of fantasy type stuff man". Mainly cuz i thought the characters on the covers looked fruity as all hell.
And it woulda been very embarrasing for me purchasing a game in the store that had a bunch of fruits on the cover. Same thing with anime, didnt get into that stuff till just some years back. Mainly cuz of the fruity c**ksucker lookin characters that i didnt really feel like lookin at.
But i like the old style of Final Fantasy characters were there small like big head lil guys. They look like lil babies or something with large heads, still havent played a modern ff game.
Well, tell me about what ones are the best to get into.
Right now i have these ones, Chrono Trigger, Finalfantasys 1-9, Kouledka (forgot i also played this one thro, its like a horror/rpg. like res.evil with turn based battles.)
Shadow Hearts1,2,3(Koudelka was the prequel to these i think, never played yet.) Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne(never played yet). And i think those are the only jap rpgs i have?
oh ya forgot i have Secret of Mana on wii vc also.
I was looking to get Suikoden 1 n 2, but sadly part 2 is over 100 bux. Heres more on my list to get sometime later in the future:
Xenogears, Suikoden 2, Parasite eve 1,2,3, Chrono Cross, Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia
The World Ends With You, Super Mario RPG, Dragon Quest 8, Persona 3,4, Digital Devil saga.
Well, tell me about your favorite ones.
g'day.
*edit. oh, forgot to mention that. the reason i made another rpg type post was to ask about japanese type rpgs. Theres another looking for rpgs topic there but mostly all of it is guys talking about just regular rpgs like: Elderscrolls, diablo, witcher, fallout, baldurs gate ect ect..
i already know all about the regular type rpgs already.
It is amazing, I've yet to play anything like it, the gameplay is so unique (managing fuel on the "mech only" parts of the game is really hard), the story is really good. The only real downside of all the game is climbing the Tower of Babel, firstly because it's a very badly designed platforming section which really doesn't fit into the rpg style, secondly (and most important) because sometimes the game will load random battles right when you're going for that tough jump and the command won't "register" and you will fall having to redo a whole part of it.
You've already played Chrono Trigger, but that's a classic that can even be played multiple times.
It's "spiritual successor", Chrono Cross is also reaaally good in terms of unique gameplay and interesting story. A ton of replayability as well if you're a completionist.
Super Mario RPG is one of the best rpgs I've played to date too. Sooo much content (even end-game stuff, like FF - no wonder it's a Square rpg), amazing gameplay, great writing/dialogues.
I haven't seen you mention neither the Breath of Fire Series nor the Star Ocean series. They're pretty good rpgs too, with unique gameplay twists and overall an old-school feeling, where the game doesn't grab your hand and tell you everything. Breath of Fire IV was particularly good with the cool skill combo system.
The first and third Disgea games are awesome. Disgea 4 is coming in September. There is a nother game similar to disgea that is fun and funny as all get out but I forget the name (some thing about a grim) I can't think of how you spell it -.- it's the magical book thing starts with grim____. Sorry about my inability to spell.
I'm playing Record of agerest war atm it's long as hell. for agerest you have the main characters life saved by some spirit or goddess (what she is is still unclear). But the catch is you have to promise her your eternal soul. (this as you come to find out includes your reincarnations/kids) I'm still on the first of the 3 sections of the game about you leading a rebelion but, the fun part is there are 4 ladies in your group and depending on how things god at the happy ending of each section you end up being with one of them and have a kid this leads to the main character of the next section. The fun here is you get a different main character depending on the girl you end up with. The battle style is set to a grid field with a type of turn based combat (it's a your team moves their team moves style as apposed to each character moves in his own que).
All that being said if you have PS3 check their online store. They have a decent list of interesting games. Other than those I can't think of any off the top of my head. (I know there are more lol)
yip, ive heard lots of fellors talking about how good xenogears is. i'll probably get that one next. I thought they would of had Frog from Chrono Trigger in chrono cross but they didnt which is maybe another reason i havent picked it up yet.
what type of games are "J slashers"? dont think ive heard of that before? sounds more like jap horror movies or something.
Golden Sun, i think theres like 3 different golden suns? which one did you play barcuda?
ive seen the ds one in stores a few times but never checked it out.
ya, the thing with the ps3 store. i'd rather have the original ps1 copies then downloads. since i could just download everything in illegal ways. they do cost more money but i rather have the disc, case & manual. They do have some good deals on there tho with xenogears only around 10 bux. I think on ebay its around $50.00 or higher they need to get Suikoden 2 also, since that ones going for over 100 bux on ebay.
But for now i think i'll get back to playing Final fantasy 7 (istill never played this one before).
It is amazing, I've yet to play anything like it, the gameplay is so unique (managing fuel on the "mech only" parts of the game is really hard), the story is really good.

Xenogears = amazing
Star Ocean 1 = never played =/
Star Ocean 2 = epic and super epic for its time dare I say better or par with FF7?
Star Ocean 3 & 4 = meh

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
You need to get Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age though. Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is the one for the DS, but it's worse in every aspect compared to the two older ones. The're for the GBA.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
JRPG's that I played (damn you btw for making me look at my game shelf) and enjoyed till the end:
Skies of Arcadia (dreamcast version)
Phantasy Star Online (played this game till my eyes bleed)
Shenmue 1 & 2 (dreamcast version)
Final Fantasy X
Persona 3
Dragon Quest 7
Dark Cloud 1 & 2
Xenogears
Shadow Hearts 1 & 2

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.

Well, I don't have a massive RPG experience, but I have some.
I agree completely with FFX, it is the best RPG I have ever played. (in term of many things, but especially in terms of dragging you into the story you literally forget about the world around you when you play that)
That game got me pretty emotional. (never happens when I play any other game.)
Tidus...Yuna....Nooo!!!! >.<
About Devil may cry, that used to be my favorite game for PS2.
Here is the order of how good they are.
Devil May Cry 1 - Awesome
Devil May cry 3 - Great
Devil May Cry 2 - Straight garbage
Devil May Cry 4 - I have no idea...(is that out already?)
If you like DMC then you will also love Onimusha, I believe it is the same company. (although I am not sure which of the games are the best, but I remember enjoying the 1st, and the 3rd.)
I didn't play them that much, but yeah.
You can also try onimusha Blade warriors, it is like super smash, except with Onimusha characters, I had countless hours of fun with my buddy playing that game.
Did you played 7th Saga for the ZSNES, I thought it was a different, and fun concept.
Here is the order of how good they are.
Devil May Cry 1 - Awesome
Devil May cry 3 - Great
Devil May Cry 2 - Straight garbage

I tried Devil May Cry 4, it wasn't that great. I didn't care for the controls. If Devil May Cry 1-3 had similar controls, I wouldn't suggest them either.
And yea, 4 came out back in '08 for the PC and Xbox 360 and ps3 consoles.

That reminds me of a scene when Tidus, Yuna and the gang was on a long stairs heading to an area (it was mentioned temple of Jose) then Yuna did a bit of sight seeing then Tidus approached her, after their conversation they were doing this fake laughing like crazy mentals, that scene made me roflmao so hard.
I found the video its the one 1:28 - 5:10, a long cut scene but a priceless one. If you didn't play the game it might not make sense.

I love those games. I wanna play DMC 1 as well.

Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age were some of the best JRPG's I've played in a long, long time.
Oh, and they easily beat FF7. Yea, I said it.
Edit: Oh, also, FF6 was really good.
Well, I don't have a massive RPG experience, but I have some.

LOLZ dude.
I love when you see Wakka's look. (after Tydus starts laughing)
then Yuna goes: "You probably shouldn't laugh anymore"
...cold as ice...
Thanks a lot for posting that, it gave me the LOLZ!
And about DMC4, thanks for giving me a heads up. (the controls seem weird but once you get used to them they are ok. At least for me)
