"Finally! To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Gundam anime/manga/toy/video game franchise, an 18-meter-tall (59-foot-tall) "life size" Gundam statue will be built in Tokyo this July. Part of the "Mobile Suit Gundam 30th Anniversary Project," the structure in Odaiba's Shiokaze Park will stay up for only two months and be built from fiberglass-reinforced plastic over a steel frame and coated in a layer of awesomeoness. Fifty points on the Gundam statue will emit light, and mist will shoot out of 14 different points on the statue. The 1/1 scale Gundam will boast a moveable head.
This is the largest Gundam statue ever constructed in Japan. In the 1990s, a 33-foot-tall LM312V04 Victory Gundam was constructed. There is also a fan-made 23-foot-tall 1/3 scale MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam in Japan. Though, this isn't the first time a life-sized Gundam has been created.
Back in 2007, a 1/1 scale Gundam was built for Fuji-Q Highland amusement park at the foot of Mt. Fuji; however, this statue did not stand upright and was built lying down on the floor.
Staring this July, it will be possible to view the 59-foot-tall Gundam free of charge. No kidding, some folks will just look out their window."
While that is awesome, err interesting, personally I'm more interested in that robot they have teaching in schools. It expresses several emotions including anger, happiness, sadness, surprise. Full body prosthetics like in Ghost in the Shell is getting closer and closer. Only thing really left is the cyber brain
Never really was a gundam fan, Neon Genesis was more my thing.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

Japan's answer to the economic downturn rivals Lewis Black's suggestion.
"You build a BIG F'N thing. I don't care what it is so long as its BIG and a F'N thing. Then you could pay people to build the BIG F'N thing. And then people will come to see the BIG F'N thing and take pictures with the BIG F'N thing....AND THAT'LL STIMULATE THE ECONOMY A**HOLES!!!!"
Alot funnier when heard and not read I assure you. You also need to watch him and not just listen as facials are crucial with his performance.

I recently downloaded the second gig of Ghost in the Shell. It's quite the compelling series.
On another note, this is the least of the weird things I've seen Japan do.

She used to be an receptionist.
i find that disturbing lol... for many many reasons
I still think Neon Genesis Evangelion is better than Mobile Suit Gundam. They should have made a 33 foot replica of Eva-01. Eva-01 is so bad ass.

The Necromancer says "All who oppose me...beware"
The Witch Doctor says "BOO NUH MA GA!"
The Cow says "Mooooo"
Deckard Cain Says.....Toy explodes....

But yea, I'm dissapointed. I would of rather had Gundam Zero from Mobile Suit: Gundam Wing. The very first Gundam show was...lackluster...
This is from the cartoon.
And that one is from the movie...
Damn, that would of been SOOO much better...
Edit: Didn't realize how big that second one was... Give me a minute and I'll try to scale it down...
