I regret that I bought Oblivion. This was the last straw in terms of buying games. StarCraft II may come off an exception, but I am so not sure that I won't dl it first, too. Oblivion was supposed to be a spectacular game, too... eh. Should have bought Age of Empires III instead.

Eh, I think Oblivion was well worth my money. Sure I'm bored of it now, but I got lots of great gameplay out of it first. I just wish there was a way to capture screens on my Xbox and send them to my email so I could show everyone how super badass and cool my character looks.
I sort of lowered down my fast travel to teleporting to the market square and back. The most annoying thing was that it doesn't work inside of caves. Every time you gather too much loot in a cave, you have to leave the cave, and then teleport... which is kind of ridiculous.
I never felt there was a point going anywhere, only to find a cave or ruines (gate's)
And i agree with Equinox that fasttravel ruined much of the point of adventuring.
Agreed. Evrything looked th same. 10.000 dungeons with the same enemies and the same generic design.
Regarding fast-travel though, you could always not use it?
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

The only thing was when you level up enough you become faster than any of the horses. The only reason I used the fast travel was because if I walked I'd always get side tracked with caves or other things. My favorite thing to find are those small villages scattered everywhere. Don't know why, but seeing them always made me happy.
You could not use it, but they could include guns in Diablo and the argument "you could always not use it" doesnt really cover the whole spectrum of a game. (guns dont fit in Diablo)

There is no alternative (town portal, teleports, etc.)
(horses don't count since they barely work)
You're right, since there's no altrnative you don't have much of a choice. Hasn't someon modded Townportals into th game though, or don something to change th travel system?

Yeah, whenever I was on a quest I'd come upon something like Enticing Secret Cave. And I'm all thinking, well I just gotta go in there. But those caves did all look too much the same anyway. And I would not have minded as much if they tried to give each cave other things to make them distinctive. Like either a more unique enemy inside, or a special book, or even like that one cave (can't remember the name) that had the tablets everywhere describing how a flood came and destroyed everything.
But the villages also made me very happy. Most of all, Hackdirt. This entire village of people whose lives suck and they hate you for no particular reason and they do ceremonial sacrifices underneath their town. Marvelous.

Things like that makea game like Oblivon fun. Where so much focus is placed on exploring, there has to be an incentive to explore. Not just generic forests and plants strewn around.
The gaets were a big disappointment for me. I was expecting some really unque treasure and even bosses in there, but they all loked the same, and the oly thing you got was a gem of some sort.

Goblin Jim's cave actually had a guy at the very end of it named Goblin Jim. It was just strange cause I fought about a hundred goblins to get to this guy and it's just some shmoe named Goblin Jim. I kept thinking I was in a sidequest area but I got no journal update after killing him and he certainly didn't try talking to me.
But anyway, yeah, people like exploring in games. And they like being rewarded for it. After I stopped feeling rewarded for exploring all those miscellaneous caves and ruins was by about the time I realized I had played that game all I could possibly play it anyway. It's also sad when you close the Oblivion gates and realize you'd still like to explore that realm some more.
The Two Worlds game at a glance reminds me a lot of Oblivion, by the way. Someone else has probably said that already though.
And I meant that the credit for those mods goes to the fans. And expectations are that the game is good enough in its original form, not after patching with 50 of so mods...

That makes sense to me. Some lunatic guy who lived in a cave. No one would miss him, so why should he have a quest attached to him. The big disappointment there was that you, as far as I remember, didn't get any good loot, and no quest starting there to find out where he came from, and how the befriended goblins.

True, true. But now that you're sitting in the sinking ship anyway, why not make the best out of it?

actually there is a quest somewhat related to goblem Jim. there is also a backstory as well. There are 7 goblem tribes through out oblivion. each with their own cave. Each tribe has a totem pole (they all look and are called the same thing) if u steal on tribes totem poll they will wait untill nightfall and send out a raid party to recover it. If u hide it in anohter goblems cave and return that night u will find both goblems fighitng eachother. each tribe has a shaman and if i remember right goblim jim was that tries shaman. he had tricked the goblims into following him....another fun thing to do was to fast travel and steal all 7 goblem totem poles. then go to a main city and drop them all on the floor in the most poplated area u could find. Upon nightfall all 7 tribes will track their totem to that area u dropped them in...about 40 goblems will show up all with their seperate tribes raiding partys and duke it out. dont forget since they are coming from all over cyrodile they will have many bears, mountian lians and other wild beast following them. The chaos is great and the aftermath of seeing who the royal rumble winning tribe is always fun. (rockbiters tribe usually win) but after the winning tribe grabs their totem and starts to leave for home they are usually slain by the town guard who are all battling eachother(due to friendly fire mistakes) and if u cast a frieball or 2 every guild u are in comes out to back u up killing more guards and innoncents in the process. usually theres about 60 dead by the time the last guard comes after me to take me to prison or pay my 40 gold bounty for casting 1 measily fireball. anyways ill double check on the goblim jim backstory when i get home i read about it in the straitgy guide
In this Two Worlds trailer, I think the desert location looked really interesting. My problem with it aesthetically though is how cheesy a lot of the monsters in it look. Especially that dragon at the end of it. Was it supposed to be menacing or daunting or special in some way? Cause I just wasn't feeling it. It looked like it came from a children's book.

That is hilarious. How much have you played Oblivion in order to figure that out? If I didn't periodically get a black screen when playing that game, I probably would start playing again just to see that.

I had some, but they never bothered me enough to care.
I have to add, the fact that Oblivion, compared to Two Worlds, has no autosaves, is kind of lame, because of all games, RPG's with exploration need a lot of autosaves...

Here's one to solve the inventory problem by allowing you to teleport your items to a container

And here we have a mod that attempts to create travel like in Morrowind.
