Hmm, I dislike this change a lot. While it is true that endgame d2 is mostly cookie cutter builds with all the same stats for every class (aka as much vit as possible), there are other builds that are viable, and "for fun" builds. I like the new skill customization system, but wait a few months and everyone is gonna want the same skill runes anyways.
Think about what you just said. Because I could spot the flaw in that the moment I read it.
There is no flaw. Those who don't want custom stat allocation won't care about min-maxing a character and play for the simple pleasure of killing enemies. Those who do want custom stat allocation care about min-maxing a character and play for the simple pleasure of killing enemies without issue.
A fix around cookie cutter builds is constantly changing and nerfing / elevating skills like Guild wars does. Once a build becomes to overly powerful they nerf it a bit or someone finds a build against that. They don't even need to touch PvE for all I care, if they make a pvp version of the skills much like GW does they could easily manage the pvp portain of the skills and that way we can keep stat manipulation and noone would have a cookie cutter build. I don't want to come across as PvE isn't important but with all these mechanics the competition in Diablo comes from PvP, and in order to keep that going we need uniqueness within the games characters and going auto stats just isn't the answer.
Great move by Blizzard in my opinion. It will allow them to easily balance classes and make sure that one class (Like the Sorc in D2) doesn't completely dominate the game.
Classes will still be extremely customizable by equipment (they already said there will be a ridiculous amount of gear), skills and the skill 'runes' that will allow you to customize them.
I don't understand why so many people are getting upset over the idea of automatic stat assigning. It's not like there was much variety in D2 aside from "enough into str/dex to use gear, the rest into vitality" barring an all energy sorc or gimmick builds.
I think that it could be nice if well implemented. Altough it would take away some of the excitement of the level up, they could do something like the stats that you use with your skills would be auto-boosted.
Even if that is not final, everyone should agree that the stat system from D2 should change. I started playing D2 again 2 months ago. Stopped last week. I did every kind of build I haven't done yet. I did a sorc and the stats advice was 'enough str, rest int vit'. Then I did a bowazon and advice 'enough str/dex rest in vit', Then I was really bored with that and made a paladin, again 'enough str/dex rest in vit'. Completely thirsting for strength and blood, I did a barbarian, and 'enough str/dex, rest in vit'.
WTF are the other stats there for if the only attribute that should be boosted indefinitely is vitality? That is completely wrong! I want the strongest barbarian that was ever done! I don't want Usain Bolt!

That's the major quarrel I had with the old system. Sure you could assign stats where ever you liked but if you wanted to be a solid player you pretty much had to spend at least 50% insto vit.
First it's shitty cartoon/finger-painting environments, now I'm loosing control over my character. Who the F*** are these people!!! What have you done to our game???

What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.
We have a lot of customization in d3, but why not even more? Just add the manual stats distribution and there we go, thousands of different builds intead of hundreds.
Those cookie cutter builds exists because the effect of each atribute in previous diablos wasnt very usefull (besides allowing you to wear your equipments i.e.).
STR: the extra damage you gain is horrible, you just have to put enought for your gear
ENE: it was useless in most PVM cases, even for a sorceress.
If blizzard had made better atribute effects we could see a lot of diferent stat builds in D2.
auto assign stats and 4 player is the max. it sounds like d3 is going to be nothing but a piece of shit game. i have been looking forward to this game all this time... but not really anymore. whats the point of playing when u get to play with 4 ppl and ur stats being added automatically. pvp would be shitttttt.
I'll heavily miss the customization that adding points where ever you wanted to gave you, but with the Skill Rune customization mechanic they added, I could well forget that worry.
I love the new changes, lol. I hated the old D2 stat system because its customization was incredibly weak.
There really was no customization now that i think on it, everyone went shit tons of vitality, and those who didn't died in like two hits pvp or hell mode. Auto stats = you don't suck like you did in d2 if you didn't pump vitality. I once tried to stack a barb with strength, and one time with dexterity. Both times i did he would perform horribly in hell difficulty, he would die in one or two hits. PVP? lol, one shot every time. But when i stacked vit? i did pretty darn well.
In diablo 2, stat point customization consisted of getting JUST enough str/dex to use the gear you wanted,
(usually a paltry 70-80 + item bonuses)
But seriously, whats the point of using 100 str to gain +100-200 damage? when you do like 6k per hit anyways? No point, thats what.
and then pumping the FUCK out of vitality. EEEEVEEERYYYONNNNEE did that. i mean you COULD do differently, but you would suck Bigtime.
Plus, a 3k hp sorceress or necro was just retarded.
I think (myself included) many people loved diablo2, it was a good game.
But when you honestly think about how many issues with gameplay there were such as stats, items, runewords, etc.
And about how nobody actually wants to run through the outdoors areas and kill shit because its incredibly boring.
There really were lots of things wrong with this game, lmao. WHY DO WE LOVE IT SO MUCH?! :3 lol

i agree. my guess its only the demo because Blizzard doesn't want to give away to many secrets.

I agree entirely that the option should exist.
I think the auto skill allocation was coming for a long time.
You say they have the upper hand, how so ?
They will have weakness like every other players.

If they made Str more effective though just imagine, a barbarian with a little into dex, little into vit, rest into STR. Glass cannon PvP build.
They could take out almost anyone in 1-2 hits probably.
