Right now we're making information in categories available in much better ways: lists!
Making these pages are quite simple, and if any first time editors want to take a shot at helping out, don't hesitate. Here's a quick ste-by-step guide on how to do it. If in doubt, ask here or look at the general Help page
0. Have an account (must be at least four days old in order to create pages).
2. Copy format but change all the chest armor names to whatever list you're going to create. Remember to also switch the text at the very top and very bottom. Put it on another page with the appropriate name, like "Axe List" or "Mighty Weapon List"
3. Create a new navbox similar to the one for chest armor: Example
4. The navbox is the little thing at the bottom of the chest armor page that says {{Chest Armor (Diablo III)}}. That thing needs to be on all individual item pages as well, but with Chest Armor replaces with whatever item type is being edited. So once the list page is done, each item page also has to be edited.
5. Profit!
These are the pages that still need to be filled out. Anyone is free to whack away Axes Bows Ceremonial Knives Crossbows Daggers Daibos Fist Weapons Hand Crossbows Maces Mighty Weapons Polearms Spears Swords Wands
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

Did the nav boxes for every list that was available that didn't already have one. All but staves now have lists with at least common and legendary in them (and nav boxes). Staves had been missing from the equipment navbox so that's possibly why no work had been done on it. I added it in. I also changed the links on the main page so the lists are now easy to find. If anyone wants to help fill in the magic and rares it should be easy to follow the current outlines and any help would be much appreciated.
The list format doesn't seem to work with the Diablo II item pages. I know the data is there somewhere, since I can display it in the picture-box format used within the current D2 items pages, but I can't figure out how to use that data in the creation of a table similar to what's been done for the D3 pages. What am I missing?

The list template is only designed for D3 items, since the parameters and variables for the two games have been entered in two different formats into the wiki. It would require designing a new template in order to display D2 items in lists.
While that item list template can theoretically be made rather easily, in order for that to happen we first need to adjust ALL D2 item pages, since right now the data is already entered into an infobox format there, as opposed to D3 items which are just standalone parameter lists that can be used by different templates (like an infobox or a list).
Since that would be stupid to do manually we'll have to get ApocBot, Apoc's nice little script, to do a little prepwork for us before we start with this.

Gotcha. Will that break the current wiki? I don't really want to kill what's already been done. My goal was just to make a couple of pages that would have item comparisons in an easier-to-read format. I think drawing on actual source data is more elegant than typing information manually for each page, but it wouldn't really be a huge amount of stuff. Maybe it's easier to make a page of "raw item values" that other templates can draw on, rather than re-making all of the existing templates?
The goal as far as I'm concerned is to make some pages of "Here are all of the shields that can have 3 or more sockets" or "This is a list of pole arms that can have 4 or more sockets" - that sort of thing.
There are no "automated" list creation tools like reports generated from a general database in Media Wiki here on Diablo Wiki.
The Diablo III lists still require someone to manually identify each item that goes into them. I believe Apoc is working on getting the same style system set up for D2 items.
As for being able to more easily identify which items might qualify for which lists (at least for Diablo III) we will be expanding our categorization to include more variables now that most possibilities have at least been identified. (this will probably take until sometime around Christmas to complete especially with continued updates taking priority of our time).
