How many of you are familiar with the concept of the Training Camp from Madden Football?
Perhaps we could look to a similiar thing wherein we engage in various short (where applicable), specific drills or tasks in LOD. I believe Winston once put forward the idea of starting anew in Hardcore mode and seeing how far you can get within a set time frame, I believe he suggested 1 and 1/2 hours.
I think that is a good idea, running some sort of ser of drills. Quickest time for killing Andariel solo. I would suggest number of kills in a set time frame, but LOD doesn't record that information, you would have to do it manually, and there would be no way to stop people cheating and boosting numbers by simplily miscounting.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
I like the who can solo andy the fastest idea. We all start in the same channel. Then say go and all make seperate priv games. First one to beat here sends a /f m message out to everyone and then makes a nother game where everyone joins to prove it (quest cannon be completed by other players)
I just thought it might be a cool idea running drills or "mini games" to distill a little activity around here, at some point, gonna be kinda preoccupied with ladder charging for a while now won't we.

Ah, thats an awesome idea. I love little challenges like this that involve starting fresh. its always unfair when everyone else inherits wealth while I don't.
Yeh I get pretty much shafted when it comes to items, grinding my way through the game with naught but a shiny stick.
This is more fun anyways.
I kind of do a drill through force of habit, plus kinda wanting a challenge, I will often see how far I can get in the game without adding a single stat points or skill points from level ups and quests.
One time I got right up to the maggot lair with a Sorc without adding any skills or stats. Only way I had any skills was from items.
And I have beaten Andariel before with a Barbarian without adding any skills or stats.

That seems like kind of pro stuff, also it seems that that stuff suggest the minimum level of 70.
And it doesn't really mention any sort of quick drill type thing like we were discussing, thats more sort of an advanced drill, like when your doing the final level of one of the drill in Madden.
We need to accomodate for new comers and fresh characters.

I am not counting them out just yet, but prehaps we should look at this from the begining, as that is a most logical point to start. After all, one does generally start at the beginning.
Let us say we had five ranks or levels, or prehaps three would be a better fit, Normal, Nightmare and Hell difficulty so to speak. Normal would be fairly easier to accomplish, Nightmare as the next level would be slightly harder to complete, and Hell being the the final difficulty level would prove to be, as the name would suggest, the most difficult.
If there was a time trial in normal that say gave you 1 hour to complete it, the time might be reduced to say 45 minutes in Nightmare, and reduced to 30 minutes for Hell, say.
Or what is the other type, numbers, aah yes I remember now. if it say 25 kills (or something) in 5 minutes for normal, then it might be 35 in Nightmare, and 45 for Hell.
Oh and another point, this concept is not just limited to LOD, or even the Diablo series, if anyone has ideas for say Warcraft III, or prehaps even WOW. Feel free to speak up.

You would have to adjust the times and difficulties and bosses according to the build type, gear, and level of that person. sorceresses should be the fastest at reaching the boss, and other builds should be the most efficient at killing the boss.
You can develop teams of a sorceress to find the boss, and another build rigged with mf or something to down the boss quickly. If you want training camps to help people come closer as a group, teams would be better at the moment, especially since its going to be rough for a while. Gear is rare, and everyone has just started, and there won't be much trading on the realms.
So for Hell, I suggest mf teams be made of tank and caster. Caster to find the boss or target, and tank to kill the target. Barbarian, paladin, whatever, it doesn't really matter.
For leveling, as much people should be in the same game, because its faster leveling and faster destruction of mobs and bosses.
Its important to emphasize teamwork and dependence on the person next to you. Do that, and you'll have an effective group. And you'll be able to time how fast it takes to do certain bosses or tasks.
I believe there is a time shown how long you have been in-game. Take a screen shot of that along with Andariel dying and the quest box being highlighted.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
I believe there is a time shown how long you have been in-game. Take a screen shot of that along with Andariel dying and the quest box being highlighted.
I don't really see how that is necessary. Simply going into a game made by the person will tell you what quests he has or hasn't done. And if the honor code is used (which it should unless you don't trust your members which will make your guild fall apart) it really isn't a big issue. The point of all this is guild progression. Completing the game isn't an achievement, any tard can do that. Mastering the game and being able to help others with your great characters is the goal.
In other words, emphasizing on little things will keep you small in growth to greatness and will be slow. If you emphasize on passing the game and mfing to gear up your members then you will have alot of people geared and ready in a quick amount of time.
You gotta prioritize your goals, and know which ones are goals and which ones are obvious give-ins.

Solo FFA's (duels)
Team 2v2 (duels)
Team 3v3 (duels)

Range based attacks - target practice (zombies and maybe fallen)
Hand to hand combat - sparing
Just some ideas throwing them out there
Hammerdin has to do sanctuary in 3 minutes....
Fury Wolf has to do sanctuary in 6 minutes....
Smiter has to complete ubers in 8 minutes...
something of that nature.
