im not too fluent in anime, but i have a cousin that has brought me into the world. this thread is for anyone that likes, would like to watch, and/or would like to introduce animes. i dont know why darkness angel has not made this thread, since he is the anime genius. these are a list of animes i've seen and highly recommend.
Love Hina (i rate this one T for teens and up)
Vandread
Elfen Lied (highly recommend, but only for those mature of mind.)
im also watching a promising anime called Hellsing. if anyone wants to learn more about these, or share others, or just talk about anime in general, please post.
Rurouni Kenshin
Very good anime that depicts a conflict age after the Opium war and the introduction of guns to Japan. An enternal war is conflicted between the Meji Government and those whom wish to challenge it. A lone, ex-manslayer, has been given the role to save Japan from a certain civil-war.
Samurai X
A prequel to Rurouni Kenshin
Elfen Lied
Listed above
Pokemon (just kiddin :D)

Those before me shall quiver in my wake as I unleash the fury within!
Well, I'm a noob in the anime world... I was used to hating anime because I thought anime = Pokemon. And that's what my parents thought, too. I actually think it was pretty common. When I was 10, I saw Digimon and really liked it, especially "Prisoner of the Pyramid", I'll never forget that episode. So my opinion tilted a little from "anime sucks" opinion... yes, Digimon and Pokemon are NOT the same thing, of course, they are both not in the "true anime" section, though... But that was my opinion of anime. It became slightly broader over time after I got around anime-lovers and anime-sites, I heard of Hellsing and others, but I really didn't think there is anything out there that would interest me that much.
Some guy recommended Naruto to me, I was (and still am), during the post-lexxian stage of acceptance of all recommendations, whatever people threw at me I was interested in, so I happilly went to get Naruto and couldn't tear my eyes from it. Yeah, it's hype, it's childish, but I still like it, and I don't care if no one else does because they saw something better. I'm watching in the order from worst to best...
That's pretty much it, I didn't get to see any other anime (I don't have a TV, mind you, and I'm picky at the Japanese/Subbed versions, I only watch them...) yet. I was planning to watch Bleach sometime, but currently I'm busy with, er... FarScape. I have a lot of stuff left to watch.
What I really like about anime, though, is that it isn't a set of unrelated episodes, it's a whole large story, broken up into pieces. Unless it's fillering, of course...
Whoa, no TV?! I admit, I do not watch TV that often, but still...
As for Anime, meh. I watched Hellsing some, but I just have a hard time enjoying the style of it all. It all tends to just explode in fire and blood, swords cleaving bodies and blood splurting and flashy light effects. It just isn't to my liking.
And yes, I too wathed Digimon etc, but nowadays I have a hard time understanding how I enjoyed it. Bad dialogue, boring fights, and in the end the last battle was never decided by sheer power, but by "the love in the world" or some other mumbo jumbo.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
eh, i thought there was a 'Manga Thread' and it was part manga and part anime, so i couldn't make another thread, because that would just be a waste of space( but totally no offense to you carloseus, glad u made it ^^). anyways some recommendation of anime!!!
Inuyasha
Scrapped Princess
Kyou Kara Maou
Spirited Away
Death Note <---- MUST SEE
Tsubasa Chronicles
D.N - Angel
Fruits Basket
Elfen Lied
Tactics
Final Fantasy
Chobits
X/1999
Night Head Genesis
Princess Monoke
Loveless
Chrono Crusade
Ouran High School Host Club
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Full Metal Alchemist
Those are just some of the animes that i have seen and would recommend ^^
bad animes (should i call them this or crap??) that we all liked just because we were too young to know better:
Pokemon (and the couple hundred spin-offs)
Digimon (and the many spin-offs after it)
Yugi-Oh (OMFG the spin-offs took off way too fast on this one as far as the card game)
Naruto (cmon man, every freaking attack has a special name and is a different way of fighting. i.e. Punch Jitsu!!! Jump Jitsu!!! or the "Believe IT!!)
good animes we still enjoy since we were kids:
Dragon Ball
Dragon Ball Z (greatest action anime of all time thank you very much.)
Inuyasha (havent seen all of it, but its pretty good.)
Full Metal Alchemist (classic yo, classic. if you dont know FMA, watch it. if you dont or dont like it you should probably hang yourself.)
i dont think they completely fall into anime, but DBZ is definately the most addicting thing ever. i mean, seeing pumped up characters fighting and watching them tear each other to pieces, thats pretty cool. especially with the story, which for once made sense.
EDIT: response to darkness
well, ty for the comment. also what i meant by animes are more like episodes, i like to watch large stories. those work too.
also, i will note to you all that if seen one after another, and to the end, these animes will probably sadden you for a while:
Love Hina
Vandread
Elfen Lied
for some reason i grew a bit depressed after completing each of these series. i saw vandread two years ago, love hina last year, and elfen lied last week. every time i heard or remembered the elfen lied theme (called lilium and is in latin by the way) i grew sad, because the story was really sad at some parts but brightened up in others. just a heads up.
ok, i respect that you love DBZ so much, and i wont judge you on that
but in my opinon ( not saying its a fact or anything, only what i think )i think that DBZ was just like OMFGWTF???
ok i hve written a basic storyline of the DBZ series
1-evil comes
2- people get prepared
3- fight evil, justice almost loses, but kills evil
4- people rejoice
5- same/different evil comes back
6-repeat stepds 2-5
but like i said, ITS ONLY WHAT I think, so if you like this anime, go for it! if you think what i said was totally 'OMFG THAT WAS SUCH BS', then you are free to argue with me within boundaries ^^
To Phrozen - oh yes, no TV, and I'm perfectly happy without it. There is NOTHING on there. Stupid Ophrah shows, boring TV series... Even the sci-fi channel is dead, bye-bye Babylon 5, LEXX, FarScape, even Sliders, whatever, nothing, nothing on that stupid TV except commercials, commercials, commercials and boring stuff. Maybe there is some good stuff, but it is not worth all the hassle with commercials. I hate ads. If I need a show, I can get it by other means, without any commercials, mind you.
To Carloseus - why call them crap or bad animes? Maybe they are just anime for kids, they do not necessary need to be serious and logical and all. They are too good to be called crap, what will you call the real crap, then?
DBZ was boring for me. Blasts was all it really consisted of. Digimon was at least freaky with all the digital stuff and illusions and whatever, that's why I liked it. I like freaky stuff...
I despise hentai, by the way, so if some of them are hentai-concentrated, warn me...
elfen lied has nudity, female nudity. no hentai though, there you are safe. but there is a lot of nudity, thats why its recommended for those mature of mind. i mean, im only 17, but i can watch it and not turn into a pervert as i watch it, instead it sort of feels normal to the series.
those animes were crap animes, they were bad made but thats why its for kids, because they're the only ones that can stand it. its like power rangers. i mean, first there's a kinda good one, and kids fall in love with it. then there are transformations and new ideas that are thrown in, like pokemon with joto. just when you thought ash was all badass and his pokemon were too, BOOM well guess what, there are another 150 pokemon to add to the pokedex. then BOOM again, they evolve differently according to day and night, not to mention the evil ones. not only did they slaughter the original series, but they also destroyed the card game. why cant they just leave things as they are, just make about 100 episodes and call it done there. the card game would have probably been around longer if there were'nt "new and exciting pokemons!!" i remember being into yugioh, and collecting the blue eye's white dragons, i had three. then trying to get the exodia pieces. then BOOM!!! now there are egyptian god cards!! at that moment i stopped, and i still have the cards i had then, about 2-3 inches vertically of cards. the three blue eyes' i still have, because i just like dragons.
but yea, i mean an anime can be great and still get kids' attentions, just like full metal alchemist. my lil bro of 7 years loves it, cant get enough of it. he got out of that little kid group, and he likes to watch quality stuff. he doesnt watch pokemon anymore, or digimon or yugioh. he's not as easily entertained as i was or his own peers.
Hm... Well, if it fits in, it's OK, I don't mind it if it fits in.
I don't like Pokemon so your whole post makes no sense for me. You mention techical stuff that I don't care about at all. I don't care about monsters/techniques. I care for character development and story. Digimon had a good story, at least somewhere, I don't remember it too well. Naruto has good characters. Especially for a cartoon considered "crap". Don't compare something to something else, just look at it "as is", maybe it won't look that bad...
Also, I'm no fanatic. In fact, being a fan of a sci-fi movie sagas, I don't respect fanatism. Or zeal, to be more exact. When people start to go overboard with something they like, they are not normal fans anymore... I'm not a fan of Naruto, I don't collect any cards or anything, I just dl the anime, watch it, and I am happier as I watch it. That's it. If it is fun to watch, it is already worth something. I dislike 90% of any movie or series, you know, I'm also very picky, but I liked Naruto, and I still rate it pretty high. For me, it is a good series, except pointed at kids which results in filler/happy end/illogical. But take the story itself and the characters themselves I consider it quite good.
ok lets get back on track here. i get carried away, so lets start talking about animes and not arguing. i hate arguing if its about such nonesense. i mean, its pokemon and naruto (lol). any animes you would like to share with us?
-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Well the only anime i hav ever watched and liked was DBZ. I want to start watchin them more but i dont know what i should start with. Any1 got ne animes that might b good for someone who doesnt watch them alot?
my favorite anime right now is Project ARMS. it is awesome and i love it. also One Piece, Love Hina, Azumanga Daioh, um...um...Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai X, .hack//sign (the original one), Cowboy Bebop...the list goes on.
-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Personally, I think most anime is garbage. But the good news is that there are some really exceptional ones too. And you wouldn't want them all to be that good anyway cause then it'd be impossible to keep track.
For the most part, you can't go wrong with Miyazaki films: Princesse Mononoke, Naasica, Spirited Away, etc.
My favorite drama anime would hands down be Haibane Renmei. It's one of the most compelling and beautifully drawn and directed animation I've seen in a long time. The music and dialogue is really incredible too.
I've kind of grown out of this next one, but Dragon Ball Z is kind of fun still. At a glance, it's really obnoxious, but if you catch it from the beginning, it's actually pretty interesting. I'm talking specifically DBZ, however. Not the original series or Dragaon Ball GT. And if I'm not mistaken, DBZ had three seasons. And they're really great just to watch all the way through if you can.
Then I've seen some mildly interesting ones on Adult Swim but sometimes the English dubbing is so bad it makes you squirm in your chair. I can't remember the name, but the one about those kind of crime solver people who have synthetic implants all over their body, and there is that hot hyper sexual chick with the purple hair, that one is pretty interesting. But it really feels like something you'd watch at three in the morning just cause you can't sleep. That doesn't mean anything bad, really.
thats Ghost in the Shell. i actually love that show. it has lots of Isaac Asimov stuff in it. and the whole when machines learn to feel, what does it mean to be human? thing is great. the philosophical arguements the tachicomas (small blue tanks) get into seems a bit much as times but they are interesting.
its on at 10pm here it used to be 3am but not anymore which is great coz now i dont feel like an ass and work for staying up till 3am to watch cartoons. even if it is a good one.

DBZ isnt so great. New fist of the north star blows it out of the water.
DBZ does have some cool characters though, like Vegeta.
