Could the upcoming Halo movie, produced by Peter Jackson, be in danger? Yes and no. According to Variety, both Fox and Universal, who had agreed to co-finance the screen adaptation of the Bungie-developed game, have suddenly backed out of the picture. The rumor is that the budget was apparently skyrocketing way past the projected $135 million, but filmmakers said that the studios left the picture after unsuccessfully playing hardball to try to get them and Microsoft to decrease their profit participation.
Microsoft was apparently to have received most of an upfront $5 million on October 15, but as that deadline approached the studios made their pay cut demand. MS was also entitled to 10 percent of the gross for rights to the game and a script by Alex Garland.
Ken Kamins, who represents Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, explained the situation: "The only budget the filmmakers every spoke about was $145 million less the 12.5% rebate that you get from shooting in New Zealand, which would put it at about $128 million. That was the only number that was ever discussed."
Kamins continued, "What happened was this: Universal, on behalf of both studios, asked for a meeting with the filmmakers just prior to the due date of a significant payment. Basically, they said that in order to move forward with the film, the filmmakers had to significantly reduce their deals. They waited until the last minute to have this conversation. Peter and Fran, after speaking with their producing partners and with Microsoft and Bungee (the studio that designed the original game), respectfully declined."
While losing Fox and Universal is certainly a blow to the Halo movie, Kamins reassured that Microsoft is already in talks with other partners and there's certainly no plan to abandon the film. In fact, preparations are continuing uninterrupted. There had also been some speculation that the studios were concerned about the choice of director. Neill Blomkamp is just 27 and is a first-time feature director. Both Jackson and Walsh are excited by what Blomkamp brings to the table, however.
"Everybody is supremely confident in Neal," Kamins said. "Part of what excited Peter and Fran was Neill's vision. We're very confident this film will move forward with the creative partners intact, who will take the film to production."
there's most likely gonna be a "Diablo" movie. There was a studio that wanted to make a film whos name would be Diablo (irrelevant with the game) and Blizzard made it change its name (never bothered checking how it was called in the end). Its a clear indication that Blizzard plans a Diablo movie, if not now sometime in the future.
My friend predicts the WC movie will be a War of the Ancients movie, nothing modern.
Personally I'd rather see "Warcraft: Orcs and Humans", ya know, the first game.
I think Blizzard could pull of a successful movie. Their cinematics have always had great direction in my opinion. The Diablo cinematics were particularly beautiful and I didn't find that many contrivances in the dialogue.
And does anyone else get the chills when the Worldstone is shattering? The way the music is and the camera moves around it, it's a rather amazing scene.
I hope if they did make a Warcraft or Diablo movie, that Matt Uelman would be hired to do the score for it. What he did for Diablo 2's fifth act was give it this mood that seemed so appropriate for either being in the snow or in some ice cave.
And the track for the Worldstone Chamber, I don't know, if makes you feel like this particular era really has ended and that everything is going to chance.
No I don't. I do get the chills when I see Tyrael gripping Diablo just before he pulls the Soulstone out of Baal. In general, any part where you see Tyrael is great.

the music is good, but i think that blizzard is much better off making the movie themselves. after all, the are certainly good at it, and already have some of the trailer for it made, the WoW trailer.
i think it will be CGI (or at least Partially for some chars, similar to Gollum from LOTR), i dont recall hearing anything about any actors (or even directors) signing on, but that could just be too early to tell.

well, like everyone else, i hope that director semigod Peter Jackson will be a part in this. doesnt have to be main director, just the action and battle sequences.

the LotR story was nothing like the one in the books. (Personally i think it was so f*cked up it wasnt even LotR). I just hope it wouldnt be like that in any Warcraft/Diablo movies we might get in the future.
dude, LOTR was depicted as best it could be without making too long and boring for the normal viewers. peter jackson did the best job ive ever seen in making a movie based on a book.

That I think most can agree with, judging by it's huge sccess.
Not to say it couldn't be better though.

absolutely. the extended versions also have more bonus footage for us fanatics though i was a bit disappointed when the shire wasnt ruined, or when the other rangers didnt show up; i was completely happy that they stuck true to the story and remained loyal to the book despite what people usually like. in the same sense, im hoping that WC, SC, and Diablo are all done the same justice, as well as any other book or already made story out there. unfortunately that justice was not done to Eragon.
