So I'm planning on doing some jello shots for my friend's upcoming birthday party. Now I've seen youtube-vids and read different kinds of recipes, but I can't get my hands on "regular Jello" like used in many of those recipes. Instead I'm going to use gelatine powder, and what I have at the moment is a small can containing 65grams of gelatine powder.
My question is, do you think 65grams of gel powder will suffice if I follow the recipe found in almost any youtube how-to video? How many grams are one of those bags that jello actually come in?
You can't find a regular box of Jell-O? Your typical grocery store is loaded with that stuff. Gelatin is fairly sensitive stuff, but 65 grams, says here a box of Jell-O is 85 grams. But of course the box isn't entirely gelatin but sugar and flavoring as well. So I'm not positive how much of the powder is actually gelatin.
Out of curiosity, are you supposed to add the alcohol while the gelatin mix is still warm? I mean, you'd have to right? But if it was too hot, you could cause reduction in the alcohol.

The only way alcohol could lose some effect is if you put it in the pot while heating up(almost boiling) the water. So, as you say: you add the alcohol after you've mixed the hot water with the gelatine powder, you keep mixing a little more and then pour it up in small cups/shot glasses.
I tasted 'em today and they were great, except they were kinda big so in order to swallow them I had to chew a little.

I'm also curious about the not being able to fnd Jell-O thing. Whereabouts do you live?
Haven't been able to found it here, so I guess I can't really call it Jell-O Shots, but instead Jelly Shots
If you don't have access to jello but still want to do this, this is what you need:
at least 17grams of Gelatine Powder (found among other ingredients used for baking, such as flour, sugar etc.)
3dl booze
1dl of some kind of soft drink concentrate or drink mix
1dl water
2-3 teaspoons of sugar (more can be added to achieve sweeter taste)
And this is how you proceed with all of this:
Get a bowl you are sure you can stir in without splashing too much. Put the 17grams of powder in that bowl, if you want the sugar as well this is when you add it.
Heat up a little more than 1dl of water, and as soon as it starts boiling you pour the hot water into the bowl and start whisping until you can see through the mixture clearly.
Now you might want to wait a few moments for the water to cool down a little before adding the alcohol. I never studied any kind of chemistry, but I don't think you need to worry about the alcohol losing any effect since you're not pouring the alcohol in a flaming, hot kettle.
As you add the alcohol keep whisping and you can now add the drink mix as well. When you think it's all been mixed properly (shouldn't take more than a couple of seconds) you pour the mixture into small cups and put them in the fridge for about an hour an you're all set!
Unless you like eating jello filled with alcohol I suggest you don't add too much in the cups, only 3-4cl because it could be troublesome to swallow it all.
For your convenience I will give you the measurement for dl in cups:
1 dl = 0.422675284 US cups
Google is your friend! And now try this out, it's really neat
American-styled stores; Stores which imports large amounts of groceries from the US and sell them in that particular store. Brands that are american are not as usual abroad as people might think, instead local manufacturers distribute the groceries. There might brands that are american placed in general grocerystores, but they aren't probably that known to the general public.
Oh, well in that case you can add soda's to the list. So far we've got.. fast food and soda's. Anything else?
US branded potato chips and snacks in general, candy, quickly prepared meals such as mac & cheese (fast food in a way), cookies, pastries, baking ingredients. Generally most things you can find in a local grocery store except the fact that everything is imported and american branded, and some things you cannot find in your local grocery store.

What are "American-Styled Stores"?
Also, we have Jell-O here in Canada (which is not part of the USA, thank you very much!)
