You know what my vote in the primary meant? Absolutely nothing.
I live in Michigan, one of the states that held their primaries early because our government was in a pissing contest with the Democratic National Committee. The officials in Michigan were all butthurt about Iowa and New Hampshire, so our election date was moved up.
Our ballot? No one really noteworthy, except for Clinton. No one campaigned here. No one pressed their issues. In the end, our vote didn't really count. Congratulations, we wasted time and gas for something that didn't matter.
Given the choices this year, I don't plan on voting. I won't vote for a Republican (Paul was the exception), Obama's naive and I doubt will change anything, and Hillary is a hard-ass. I won't vote for a third-party just out of spite, either.
I shouldn't be made to feel like a lazy, uninformed, American redneck just because I've chosen to exercise my right not to vote. If the candidate choices were different, maybe I would, but as it stands right now, I won't.
And as far as the issues I'm interested in, I'll complain about them if I want to. I've done my part, therefore I've earned that right.

So basically, you're saying you're all talk no walk.
So basically, you're saying you're all talk no walk.
Where are you getting that from? I don't understand where you guys are drawing this conclusion from. Are you purposely trying to keep an argument going, because seriously, it's not making any sense.
Complaining about something is not the same as changing it. Complaining about the government but not voting is basically saying you don't like something, but you won't followthrough on it.
Not voting signifies that you don't care, so if you don't care then you don't complain because you don't care.

I've said this before: There are issues I do care about. As far as those issues are concerned, I have done my part. I voted in the primary. I vote in local elections. I voted in the last Presidential election (for what good that did). I'm considering running for a township or city office, if possible, this next coming year.
I rarely, if ever, complain about politics in real life. I am not a vocal person, and will generally keep my mouth shut IRL. I don't ever remember complaining about government issues on these forums either, with the exception of the religion/government thread that was here not too long ago (and that is, actually, one issue that interests me - government controlling religion is something that grinds my gears for personal reasons).
The way I see it, voting third-party is essentially throwing my vote away. Third-party candidates never win the election, so what's the difference between that and not voting at all? Taking votes away from the other candidates? Won't not voting do that anyway?
You say that not voting shows I don't care, but how is that? I believe I have very good reasons to justify not voting in this election. Or would you guys rather just have me follow the crowd and vote for Obama just because everyone else is? I don't work like that. Sorry.
Well, in that case, I've got until Bush is out of office to voice all of my complaints, since I "earned" that by voting in the last election.
None of these people spark my interest. To be honest, even if I did happen to support one of them, and they got elected, I doubt it would make much of a difference. Things in America are so messed up right now that four years just isn't long enough to make them any better.
Balance in Iraq and other foreign nations, the economy, health care - these are all issues I care about and can get behind, but none of the candidates really share the same views I do. What then? Vote for no reason? I just can't bring myself to do that. Doing something purely out of spite just isn't in my nature.
I guess trying to defend my position is near-impossible. I'll always be painted as the "bad guy." Yay.
I do not like any of these candidates though. They are not that great, but out of them McCain I think would be the better. I just do not like Hillary, but if Obama could change a few of his changes to america. Then I would vote for him.

Then you have to do the next best thing; vote for whoever supports your views the most.
This is my main problem with American politics. You have the Republicans, the Democrats, and some other shit. And no matter what you do, you will always end up with a republican or a democrat in office. Period. So what choices do you have really?

I do not know who I will vote for though. I am torn between McCain and if Obama wins. But if Hillary wins. I will certainly go for McCain.

If you don't like the current candidates you can still vote for Nader and do some fluctuation with that. Not voting at all is the worst you can do. The percentage of young people voting is so low because of people like you. Shit I am a fucking immigrant and I want to vote.
Sorry for double posting. If people do not want to vote they should not want to. There are a lot of people who would rather watch than actually vote. Who cares anyway this country is going to hell. Everything is falling apart one piece at a time. Good for you. You want to vote. Who gives a shit. Everyone has there different opinions, and for some reason you always have to give a lecture why they are bad or stupid.

McCain won. It's over. Voting for McCain means nothing at this point. Republicans know this and realize that the next best thing is to vote for the worst Democratic candidate. What we will see now is a bunch of Republicans voting for Hillary because it increases their chances of putting McCain in office.
Then you have to do the next best thing; vote for whoever supports your views the most.
This is what will likely happen later if I choose to vote, depending on who gets the Democratic nomination. If the Presidential Election comes down to McCain and Obama, I will not vote; I don't like most Republicans, and Obama doesn't strike me as the type of person who will be able to handle the job of President. However, if it were between McCain and Clinton, I would likely vote in Clinton's favor.
As far as people telling me that I'm lazy and part of the reason young people don't vote today: I'm not the only person that feels the way I do. In fact, the reason many people my age don't vote is due to lack of faith in the political system. The idea behind voting is to elect the person you feel will best carry out the will of the people. The past couple of elections have only driven that point in even further.
Just look at what happened in Florida during the election between Gore and Bush. The same thing happened during the next election between Kerry and Bush, only in Ohio. You honestly cannot tell me that Americans are stupid enough to elect Bush into office a second time; it's also highly suspicious to the younger generations that voting "problems" happened twice with the same candidate (Bush). Why have faith in the process if it's failed so many times?
If anyone wants to continue to berate and belittle me because I have chosen not to vote at this time, that's fine. I won't stop you. I believe my reasons are justified, just as much as you believe yours are.
You are ignorant if you think it matters who the next president will be. The president is a puppet, owned by corperate America. We will not pull out of Iraq because we need those troops to take out Irans current heirarchy. There will be another attack on America, staged just like the previous attack, this time to frame Iran as the culprit. Then all you retards will get all patriotic and start saying "destroy Iran!" and "I say we nukem!" like a bunch of bloodthirsty faggots, and so it shall be. Then you will regret it and start saying "we need to pull out" and "I knew it was a bad idea".
So go ahead and let the election distract you from what is really going on behind the figurehead. Ill be right here watching candidly as madkind either descends into hell or ascends to the cosmos above.

Voting shows what your support, and if you don't support anything in politics, then you shouldn't dislike anything either.
