do we all need to make characters representing ourselves ..... ? if yes then i'm on and if no then i'm ummmmmm..... off.....
you have your on forum persona, so to speak. its kind like if you were to make a dungeons and dragons character. a character that represents you, or prehaps the way you wish you were.
my character is primarily based on a 15th century romanian lord of fair reknown.
so feel free to make one for yourself, though for simplicity try to go with something from medieval or the Dark Ages, as this is roughly when diablo is set. IIRC the brunt of Diablo takes place in the equivalent of our year 1250
I think a book would be soo awesome. And yes I know I'm not allowed to have any input because I'm a noob to these forums...
what does being a noob have to do with suggesting ideas for something? everyone has to start somewhere.
I reckon you try and include alot of the dedicated forum goers into the story. Have them do one liners and soforth relative to how they act on the forums. Idk it just reckon it would be cool to read about everyone in that way.
thats what ive always done, but what i write down usually never gets to see the keyboard.
yes, but lets not include people for the sake of including them
and for those of you interested dont go getting stupid with you items please. id rather you just say heavy arrmor/axe than some item with a huge list of properties from the game/s.
we just need to know what it is, not what it does.
i just thought i might rephrase this statement.
you may however describe the propeties of an item.
take something like "the sword of the Flame" instead of saying something like "does +24 fire damage", you could say something like "a sword whose blade is so hot it quarterises flesh as it slices through it.
your writing for a novel, not coding a game here
Well okay, then'll say what I think the plot should basically be.
Okay so it starts with the main character (You decide) and he starts off as a lowly peasant and one day a group of fallen try to attack his family/house and he kicks their buts with his...pitchfork?...but the fallen take away someone he loves (not getting into details it's for you to decide if you use this or not so its not worth the effort putting detail), so he goes on a quest to rescue them , along the way he meets other warriors of sorts and stuff like that who are the other leaders of legions and important people to SICK. So they kick some demon butt and finally rescue his loved one, but since this group of people are such great warriors they are needed to confront the demon threat so they join the human army, which is in the first battle completely demolished by the demons and most of the former leaders of the army were killed. That night in a vision the main character gets a vision of Silver (he's god to SICK) telling him that he must lead the humans to victory and name the army (of course) SICK. So he dons his armour(sorry for the canadian spelling I'm canadian) and rallies the remaining human might and they put up such a bold fight against the demons that Diablo himself intervenes and they fight him and win, but at least one main character must die because books suck unless there is a bittersweet ending.
Not perfect, but it's just a possibilty
i would recommend reading the silversufnstudism thread before suggesting ideas. but not bad for a first attempt
there is a history to every person here, thas and i, and i think darkjay have told our stories in the Silversurfnstudism thread. Lord Elfen has written the texts of how Lord Silver came to be a god, and how everything started. i have alot of reading to do, and paying close attention to detail. hopefully i can produce something worthy of everyone here to enjoy. but it will be through my point of view, and if i decide, maybe ill re-tell the story of how Carloseus came to be.
I didnt write histories for everyone, just 10 or so (at the time it was everyone) and they range from guild higher ups to guild regulars. I do have another 2 or 3 im trying to work on with people.
I should be around to if anyone wishes to discuss aspects of this in further detail, if im on the forums im on MSN/AIM

ill finish installing all the crap i need onto my computer, and get it under way. tomorrow ill be a bit busy, but ill let the novel ideas on the backburners of my mind. i should be able to come up with a pretty good plot, but you guys wont know squat about it until i unveil the actual novel.
u and your mysteries but shouldn't we do something so that we can know the characters of everyone .... like making this novel should not be easy and so it should be just like announcing something great...(not d3) maybe we can make another thread or something like that......

wow, i didnt think that this subject would explode like this... it has become quite popular in 1 day! for ideas on the novel though, characters: silver could be a god or something, Elfen a King or ruler, Thasador, Carloseus, and darkjay could all be something like princes or generals, and then whoever else you wanted to be the other soldiers, or spies, or thiefs, or assassins, could be them.
If you might want an idea, about a plot then... look at some of these authors that i have read recently.
Raymond E. Feist- Wrote The Rift War Saga(4 books), Prince of the Blood, The Kings Buccaneer, The Serpent War Saga(4 books), Riftwar Legacy(3 books).
David Feintuch- Wrote The Still.
i dont know if you have heard of Raymond E. Feist, but he is an amazing author. in my opinion, his books are better than the LOTR's. David Feintuch is a good author also. if you havent read and of Feist's work, then i wouldnt try to read it before giving suggestions on writing the book. but if you have read some of his stuff, it would be cool to throw out suggestions on writing the book based on some of his stuff.
those are just some things that i wanted to say, if there is anything that you guys want from me, whether it is ideas, or if you want me to try and write something, then tell me and i will try to be of as much help as possible. i would like to see a book written about SICK and im willing to do anything to the best of my ability.

Fan fiction is always fun for me to read. Even where it's lacking in some areas, it's just up to the fan reading it to fill in those gaps with their own imagination.
You know the market for this is basically the SICK clan. That's pretty much it. The time and effort to write a book would not pay off if only 20 people buy it. I say 20 because I bet a lot of the clan members wouldn't buy it.
i wouldnt sell it, i would lik make a pdf file with it and put it up here for download. or something like that. but i definately wouldnt sell it, unless i spent all my time on it. but i wont, so i will not sell it.

caliban, you speak blasphemy. no books on earth can even compare to those of Tolkien.
as for the plot, ill be keeping that to myself. the characters that show up will be decided later, and will be only the ones that have done alot for SICK, such as myself, thasador, darkjay, Silver, Elfen. and others. and most will be higher ranks, but the personas will be as close as they are here in the forum as i can. the battle that inspired this thread will probably be included, and most likely enhanced.
it will also be third person, so that i can follow different occurences as the story goes on.
ok, ive got some idea of what i will look like. now to start forming the plot, and everything else.

Yeah, I can honestly say I wouldn't buy it either. But I like reading the fan fiction when it's posted on the forums.
yes that is probably right.
which is why i thought it might be an online novel so to speak. making an actual book seems overly complicated and the market is limited to a select few. making it much like the stories that have gone before it, i.e a series of posts in a thread (or two)

lol, nah i think you have a pretty good understanding of everything Carloseus, but if you need to discuss something further ill be more than happy to assist. (if i have the time, kinda busy nowadays, insanely busy, with 14 hour days, and 7 days a week).
third person i think is best. it allows you to tell multiple stories or multiple parts to the same story.

I knew you would say something like that Carloseus, but i still stand by my statment on how Feist was better than Tolkien. in his own way of course. his books kept me on the edge of my seat where as tolkiens only kept me in my seat.
Naturally, i would have guessed that the people who have contributed most to diablo3.com would be in the novel but i believe that you have left out a few, such as maybe Acid-Reign, or Ferret? I agree that third person would be the best, that is how all of Feists books are, and that is what i was hinting at when i told you of him... i just didnt know what it was called >_<.
Im assuming that the only people that should say what they look like or how they want to be imaged as would be the higher ranked people you mentioned, such as you, silver, darkjay, thasador, and elfen... so i wont say anything else about this =P

i didnt say it, but yes, you are right. Lord Elfen is probably the only other that will lay eyes on the novel as it goes and will play a large role in quality control, as in making sure that i dont contradict something, and keep consistent on appearances or whatever. good call Elfen, and since you are Silver's right-hand, i would be honored if you looked over my work to make sure it measures up to who it depicts, the people of SICK.

the key to an epic story isnt always the action and suspense. it involves detail, and all the stories that tie into it. stories rarely lack so much detail and attention to image, and LoTR does an awesome job of doing it. as you read the books you can see everything in your mind. you dont have questions such as how the scenery looks like, or what is going on. if you pay attention, you will know everything that is going on, and more.
what makes a good writer is not the story, but how its told. lots of people can tell a great tale, make it exciting, and keep the audience captivated with that action. it takes a true master of storytelling to give you tons of detail, character development, and side story and still keep you interested. because if he wasnt so good at it, no one would have read past the first 50 pages, which by the way nothing happens in.
ive read those books at least once every year, and will continue to do so, they are so great and full of detail, i was so glad that all that detail, beauty, and story was well translated onto movie format. thats why LoTR is so great, because of everything that went into it. everyone who hates it doesnt have the attention capacity to keep up.
this should be alot of fun...i await the start of it, Yes most the general backround knowledge is provided in the Silversurfnstudism thread, along with pics and small battles that took place
im planning on grabbing ideas from everywhere, and the Silversurfnstudism thread will definately be taken in and may play a bit in this. LoTR, Braveheart, 300, and Eragon (book, movie sucked) will play a ton on the fighting, the setting, and what battle speeches will sound like. however, quality control will help with enhancing originality and reality. it will be awesome though. you can all be sure of that.
