I have an almost compulsion to kill basically everything in the path of my goal. I've had enough decent drops off of chests/low level mobs, I have a hard time leaving stuff alive. I need to learn better habits with someone who doesn't mind if they have to keep me focused on improving in that way. I've been running mostly T2-3 with most of my toons, but might need to back down for killing speed if I judge from videos I've watched. However, those videos may also just not apply to me since my gear isn't there yet.
D2 friends never got into D3 thanks to the AH and didn't come back after 2.0. Tired of always running solo. Worried my play-style may not be appreciated in public games unless I learn to be faster. Also, WoW pugs kind of killed my enthusiasm for random groups, lol.
I think your best geared character is your jade WD so i would focus on him since all of your other characters are quite horribly geared.
Pretty sure you can one shot elite packs on t3-5 or so... You need to farm for a Quetzalcoatl voodoo mask and then you can probably go to T6.
I don't understand what you mean by killing all mobs and all that stuff but it's pretty much like in d2... you don't stall on every single white mob, you mainly look for big packs and preferably champions / elites + obviously goblins.
There's not much to say here, you need to keep farming paragon and better gear, and when you do get those, you raise up the torment level.
Thanks. I am currently farming/gambling for the Jade Shoulders so I'll still have the bonus if/when I find a Quetzcoatl, so thanks for the confirmation there. I have a Zuni set that I was running for him and just decided to try out the Jade play-style even though I don't have all the gear yet. Between the two, Jade is definitely quicker on elites so I'll probably stick to that. My survival is definitely more...involved with the Jade though.
The Monk is very durable and easy in T3, but the elite kill speeds are definitely slower. AOE is easy and quick even without high level sets.
Sets have just been...elusive. I haven't done anything different on the WD, he's just been luckier.
As to "like in D2", I played only LAN with friends who always wanted to do full clears so I really haven't ever practiced the play-style I see on videos of rushing through. Even when I try to play that way, I'm always uncertain when to just motor past groups. In videos, they frequently leave before a trash pack is even down...and I don't understand why. If they are skipping, why attack it in the first place? I get when they believe residual damage will finish it off, but it often isn't apparent that will be the case.
As to all the items they leave behind, I'm hurting for gold. Trying to build up a gem stash and re-roll gear to pick up speed. I tend to go for every gold drop and even pick up many yellows to sell. I often wonder if I'm gimping my income doing that, however. The guys in the videos have so much gold, maybe they've evolved past that...OR maybe finishing rifts/bounties faster equals more gold from rewards than I can pick up from drops?
The most important reason I posted here, however, is because when I try to play faster, I always catch myself reverting to my "normal" style and having to re-engage a conscious effort to play differently. Having a pacer running around with me may enliven the game and would definitely prevent me from reverting to my old ways, during that game, at least. I think I need help to break old habits and build better ones, basically.
I have this complexity before as well, I guess OCD is getting in the way when I play, no stone left unturned is how I used to play. I always think what if that mob would drop the leg I'm looking for, but really this game needs you to be efficient in running/farming and what I was doing isn't helping me at all. I would advice you to run t1 until you get all better legs, you will be able to clear your way faster and even kill every mob without spending too much time.
Or try running a cyclone strike monk, that way you could group mobs easy and clear faster.
My monk is running a cyclone variant. With no defining gear, this is probably the best I've tried. I just added offense to a standard build because in T3 my defense was too easy and my offense was too slow. If you have another suggestion, I'm all ears. I tried to find a build not restricted to gear that worked, but eventually had to tweak my way into that one. Trash gets blasted down, but elites are still a little too slow on T3.

That might be the best suggestion. I'm currently the leader of my RL friends clan...but I'm the only one playing.

Edit: Guess my profile would help here, doh!
