text coloring was adjusted but was from diablo, bag system is not diablo, skill bar was not diablo, gold was worthless in diablo (although i dont think that was intentional)
The coloring of the item names, (I vaguely remember seeing an item name in blue/purple) the inventory/bag system, the skill hotbar, possibly the new dependency on gold, just to name a few.
Come on man, you can stretch crap better than that.
The coloring of the item names, (I vaguely remember seeing an item name in blue/purple) the inventory/bag system, the skill hotbar, possibly the new dependency on gold, just to name a few.
Okay you want new ideas but you're just pointing out old ideas.
Item names came from Diablo 1 and 2.
The one slot system was around way before WoW.
Skill hotbars were around way before WoW.
Dependency on gold is sensible since gold is the currency of Sanctuary. I'd like to see it have SOME value, I'd like to keep item trading too though. Currency was in MANY games.
So what do you think we should add as substitutes? You say you want new things. What is there besides either item trading or gold trading?

The item coloring in Diablo 1 and 2 was different though. There was no purple, and blue was for magic items, not "superior" items.
And what happened to gold and yellow? Nowhere to be found, AFAIK.
Gold items are in D3... and where did you hear blue = superior and not magic in D3?
Just for the record also what we think of as blue in D2 is actually violet.

Alright a few things here.
1. I'm pretty sure WoW got the idea for colored loot tables from Diablo. Sure we saw some purple names in the game play trailer which is obviously from WoW. But who really cares?
2. I'm also pretty sure that the Bag/inventory system WoW uses has been around for a long time. Personally though I like this change regardless of where it originated.
3. The skill hot-bar is a much needed feature in the Diablo Universe. WoW also had the skill hot-bar but was not the first game to use it by any means. The skill hot-bar allows for faster more intuitive gameplay and management of multiple spells/skills.
4. Dependency on gold in Diablo3 is pure speculation at this point. I wouldn't mind a gold standard for the currency in diablo3 but only time will tell if this will be the case. Again though, WoW was not the first game to have a gold based economy. If we can for a second assume that duping and hacking will be all but destroyed in Diablo3 there would need to be some sort of easy to collect currency used to buy and trade for goods.
I dont mind the bag system, but i would of liked it to remain tetris inventory system on those bags at least, instead of a complete conversion into the wow inventory system :/. Horadric cub and the belt spots were already kind of like two little bags anyways. But no more tetris? :/
I don't see why having purple as a color is a big deal. It's just a color...
Just in case anyone is wondering why I think the "blues" in D2 were violet.
Magic, Rare, Crafted, Set, and Unique Items
The names of Magic, Rare, Crafted, Set, and Unique Items appear in Violet, Yellow, Orange, Green, and Gold text, respectively.

Irvine Blizzard is just making excuses because they lack the ability to do a depressing gothic environment.
It's not wrong that they're using ideas from previous games, it's just that this is their first time doing something that's not really epic and stylized, it's astonishing to me how a gaming company that says "It's done when it's done" is so inflexable that they have to stick absolutely to their motto of Epic, Stylized games.
How the fuck were Diablo 1 and 2 stylized, It was a gothic scene and Diablo 1 had roman, japanese, and tons of different items from all over time.
Diablo 2 had Amazons and Druids, how the hell is are THEY a stylized gothic theme. I can understand Barbarians, Necromancers, and Paladins, but not Druids and Amazons.
This game is not a stylized game, it's a mesh of cultures from all over history.
Where is the religious intolerance, where were the bodies littering the Act 2, 3, and 5 towns?
I think theres no doubt that they could easily have made it look much better for every true Diablo fan.
Dragon Age looks really very cool BTW.
- Classes are like in Diablo (1).
- Group of 4 characters; Hero (you) + 3 NPC's.
- Combat is pause-and-command, strategic. Like in Baldur's Gate.
- Camera wiev is third-person when zoomed in, isometric when zoomed out.
Cool feature: Element interactions. Blizzard spell can put out fire, fire spell can ignite grease from 'grease' spell.
Supposed to be the true spirital ancestor of Baldur's Gate. Lets just hope it doesnt end up like HG:L.
Well I happen to really like the way Diablo3 looks and I consider myself a "true" Diablo fan. Your comment, just like mine is an opinion. I would go as far to say that I'm glad Blizzard is taking the Diablo visuals in a new and completely different direction.
never said they could. Most games in general have always done one slot inventory setups. But diablo was different, and it was a little thing I always found neat. Blizzard brought one slot into warcraft with theyre heroes in WC3 and expanded it in wow. They then carried it into diablo 3.
It was brought into blizzard through wow though. So, using it in diablo takes one less thign away that helped separate diablo, even if a small one.
never said they could. Most games in general have always done one slot inventory setups.
Then why compare it to WoW if it's been around forever and been used many times? People only compare it to WoW to get an uprising because for some reason people have a burning rage for everything WoW.
I'm going to miss the detailed pictures of items but I'm sure as hell not going to miss the fitting items into places when I could be killing things. Makes me feel like a interior decorator.

Ok, I believe the word stylized, as most people are using it, refers to an overall artistic aesthetic choice made by the Blizzard creative team, and not really the content of the game.
I don't think that Irvine Blizzard is making excuses at all. I think they just know how they want the game to look and are going with it.

because wow is their main project currently released, and thats where it came into the blizzard realm. In addition Diablo 3 is picking up multiple things that WoW and WC3 also picked up.
Diablo 3 isnt copying all the same games that wow copied, its copying wow.
The original zelda had one slot inventory too, I guess I should blame it then? Thats not logical. Its been done again and again and again, but not by blizzard. Blizzard introduced it in the warcraft universe, and then copied it into diablo. Thus the blame.

That would be the proper definition of style, yes. Although I think many dont quite get that.

And WoW was copying other games. Now they're bringing it to D3 because it works and the majority of people like it.
Ever wonder why most games had one slot inventory instead of the tetris style? If the tetris style was truly better more games would of had it because what works better draws in more money which means more games for us to play.

/shrug, i thought it was a neat difference diablo had vs other games like it. Just another little detail that made diablo not just 'another' game out there. Pretty sure it doesnt make or break a game for anyone. However, one thing it does do, is remove a difference between the two games, making it closer to WoW. As neither system is a big deal, I find it a very unnecessary change. Just as blizzard should not make bad decisions to keep the game different from wow, I also dont think they should make negligible decisions to make the game more like wow.

Like I said the tetris inventory had good and bad parts. I liked that it provided a better image of the item especially uniques, they had cool looks.
It annoyed me though and many others I'm sure that you had to re-arrange your inventory just to fit things in.
Yes, neither is really "better" than the other and won't make or break the game, but they just settled for the less annoying one. One more people will be used to. Not JUST from WoW.

whoa whoa whoa.. This game is not becoming closer to WoW or any other game for that matter. Diablo is all about the story, the loot, the demons, the destruction, the spells, the point and click movement, and real time combat. It's fast paced bloody and fun as hell.
Thus the big petition against what theyve done to the graphics. The new style has been greatly influenced by wow(or games that influenced wow if your prefer), as well as some of the mechanics; thus the concern.

And do you know why? Because Blizzard uses the Hollywood stereotype of Druids and Amazons.
Then again, that's what Blizzard is best at, Hollywood bullshit stereotypes.

Why leave evidence of your intolerance? Look at current major religions, they don't leave evidence of there intolerance, do they? Of course not, and the people in Sanctuary would be no different.

Plus it's a better system, and lets you hold more then you would with the "tetris" system.

Some people seem to think it's not better and can't hold more because if you fill up your inventory with rings gems and runes you can fit more with the tetris inventory. Of course thats just speculation as we don't know how runes and gems will be in D3 and they might stack.
But sure I guess if you want to fill up your whole inventory with rings and amulets, yes you can fit more.
