My only complaints: Green, cartoony lighting underground, textures are not gritty enough, disappearing bodies, "Fantasy" style swords (You know, goofy, over dramatic blades & blade guards), huge shoulder pads, generally more comical than Diablo 1 & 2.
The biggest one, however, is that the barbarians skills all have magic "glows" around them. Huge red & blue trails, lights, and sparks coming from a character who is supposed to be non-magical.
Graphics look great other than color, environment look very nice.
Also, if anyone offcial see this: there are only a few people one this forum, but there is a petition online to make the graphics more gothic that has achieved over 5000 signings within 3 - 4 days.

D3 Pros: Outdoors environment, night time environment, female Barbarian, rune spell system, the Wizard class
D3 Cons: Fantasy architecture, fantasy armor, fanstasy weapons, no shaders.
Voting undecided, as I accept the current look, but would not decline a shift to darker graphics (I'd prefer it, but it's not required). Perhaps an option to adjust gamma, although I prefer a unified theme (i.e. all youtube videos look the same, like they currently do).
I agree the color palette used just doesn't seem to fit. Also the characters proportion isn't correct. The characters looks exactly like a Warcraft 3/WoW proportion. The characters in Diablo 1 & 2 are taller and slimmer but also strong.
The current model of the Witch Doctor and Barbarian just doesn't match the concept art correctly. They look really out of place. I really don't care for the Witch Doctor's summons either. Altogether it looks uninspiring and not creative(characters).
The environments look great but the textures and some of the world models are to WoW like. Especially the statues. Some of them where very plain and dull looking.
If the current build of Diablo 3 came out I think I would be highly disappointed in the art direction.
When I first when to the Diablo 3 website I was hype because the webpage really has the Diablo feel to it. Then I saw the cinematic and I was hype. Then I saw the gameplay trailer and I just felt bummed. It really felt like a isometric of the warcraft universe.
The devs mention that they went back and played the old diablo games and the game wasn't as dark or gothic as they thought it was. Well that because it's been 8 years later and our perception of the game probably changed. At the current time of the release of Diablo and Diablo 2 the game felt really dark. I'm not disapproving the use of colors. I'm just don't care for any bright neon colors.
I think the color green and purple spell out WoW and I saw a lot of that.
I hope this helps. I love Blizzard and they make great games.
Keep up with the great work and thanks for working on the third installment of the game.
I will pay good money and wait patiently for the game to be perfect.
The graphics look great to me. However, to be honest, I'm a bit disappointed by the Witch Doctor character. As they have said that they are only going to have 5 classes, I think WD will take the place of the Necromancer and the Druid (summoning the dead and the mongrels) both of which I think are better characters. And, hopefully I'm wrong, but it seemed a bit well, racist, that the WD graphics were of dark skinned people in wild get ups. In New Orleans of old anyone could have been a secret voodoo practitioner, they didn't have to be all out there. If I had to only choose 5 classes, they would be (in alpha): assassin, barbarian, druid, paladin, sorcerer/ess.
I also didn't like the horizontal life bars popping up everywhere in the beginning demo... hopefully we can turn them off. I liken them to web 2.0 pop-up crap that makes browsing a pain in the rear.
I think the atmosphere needs to be more darker and have an element of despair to it. I don't think it looks too cartoony or wowish but do think the art style doesn't fit into the Diablo universe and what fans want. At first I thougth otherwise but no I do think it needs to be darker. Over all graphically the game looks great I just think the atmosphere needs to be tuned up a bit.
Watched the gameplay trailer again, the detail was awesome, I think it looks great how it is but however remain undecided. I keep changing my mind, I see the trailer love how it looks, then come on here read the complaints and see the changes and change my mind, I think in order for us to actually decide Blizzard should make a few alterations(if they are easy to implement) and then make the same gameplay trailer again with the alterations implemented, then we'll be able to watch both versions and truly decide. (Screenshots are static and don't move, if I'm gonna decide I want to see the changes in gameplay) I know we should simply wait and see how the rest of the enviornments look, but I have too much time on my hands. (taking summer semester off and haven't found a summer job yet)

I'm sorry for the spam, but i can't believe you guys agree on this.. That you are happy with all. I think you finished Diablo 2 maybe max 10 times. Nobody who finished it more than 100 times would say that the graphics are fine!!! I simply don't believe this! HAVE you guys who vote on the first option actually SEEN the edited screens??! This game, OUR game look the same as Titan Quest, even worse! You are ok with that?? I'm not saying you should vote on second option, but if there is ONE thing you don't like about graphics, you think "well, it's ok, but could be darker" so you should vote on the second! THE GRAPHICS NEED MORE SHARPNESS, MORE MESS, MORE BLOOD, be MORE SCARY.
Can't believe what i see on the results lol. So many people signed the petition and now what? ;]
I'm starting to think that those guys who who actually like it, just creating new and new accounts and vote on first option. It should be banned for people below 10 posts lol.
THINK people, you want Diablo 3, or you want it to look like every other game?? I suppose you don't care...
Cheers
Everyone has there own opinion, no need in putting them down for that.
The game will be great no matter what, it is Diablo, and it is Blizzard.

And the people should be banned for 10 posts? You have 76... Not much more yourself if you want to be like that.
I thought the game looked really great as it is, but I also really like some of the darker pictures people have made.
I have faith in Blizzard though, and so far they have never disappointed me.
Thats my opinion too, i liked some edited pictures, but in some situations it sacrifices the detail level on the scene, i don't know if this is good. But the warcraft presence is enfatic, and it is not good too.
Anyone with Photoshop can go in and add darkness (in this case, in an area its not supposed to be) to an area. It takes real thought and talent to make a game feel dark even when the environment isn't, and I think Blizzard has shown us that they can.
Personally, I think they should just give the user a couple of lighting and color sliders in the graphics options so the user can tweak it however they like as with any other game. Give us gamma and saturation control and it solves the problem. When the game is released, after about an hour of gameplay, you won't find yourself caring that the dungeon is blueish anymore.
The graphics look great to me (esp the biting off of the head in the last scene... how cool would that be to have unique deaths depending on who your character was fighting). However, to be honest, I'm a bit disappointed by the Witch Doctor character. As they have said that they are only going to have 5 classes, I think the WD will take the place of the Necromancer and the Druid (summoning the dead and the mongrels) both of which I think are better characters. A sixth would be the necromancer.
I also didn't like the horizontal life bars popping up everywhere in the beginning demo... hopefully we can turn them off. I liken them to web 2.0 pop-up crap that makes browsing a pain in the rear.
Note about LOD - I hated that special druid clubs were limited to clubs and not all mace class. I also hated that you could gamble for some character specific items, but not others (e.g., katars but not wands).
I've stated my reasons for why I think it will work in previous posts. I'm not going to jump to any conclusions until I see.
1. more areas of the game.
2. new builds of the game.
3. some kind of damning proof that they replaced hell with some sort of cotton-candy factory.
4. I do not think bright colors are a bad thing in Diablo3. I do think however it must be tempered with areas that are dark, twisted with evil, and a color scheme to match. I like variety and I don't mind the colors as they are now.
go read over some of the other posts there are some very good arguments as to why it should be left as it is.
One more thing. I feel that adding the doom and gloom everywhere just strips the contrast between light and dark out of the game and becomes repetitive and drab.
Thats my opinion too, i liked some edited pictures, but in some situations it sacrifices the detail level on the scene, i don't know if this is good. But the warcraft presence is enfatic, and it is not good too.
I really really really don't get this whole ZOMG WARCRAFT NOOO thing. I've played WC3 and WoW to death (don't hate me) and I see no similarities art-wise. I guess you can say the characters look a bit cartoony, although I personally think its fine, but I'd much rather have a bit cartoony as opposed to a failed attempt at realism. Sure, WC3 is pretty much a cartoon, but just because D3's models don't look real doesn't mean they're drawing from warcraft. And please, for the love of god, don't say stupid things like "The inventory is the same, therefore they're making another WoW." If you actually look at all the arguments for why this game is like WoW, they are, in the end, either in miniscule things like inventories, or simply false.
I registered on this forum just so I can say what a bunch of whiny b****es are posting here. I'm a veteran of both Diablo games and I honestly haven't played a PC game seriously since Diablo II. I haven't played any of the warcraft/starcraft games and I hate games like WOW. That being said.... When I watched the trailer and game play previews for Diablo 3 I was blown away. I think it looks awesome and I haven't been this excited about a PC game launch since Diablo II. I'm glad that they kept it as a top-down-view, hack and slash just like the other Diablo games. I was hoping and praying that they didn't make it the next WOW, and they didn't so... good job Blizzard and keep up the good work!!! Can't wait to play Diablo 3!
look, the cinematic we saw was rated M cause WWI08 was M rated. I want blood. Where's the blood splatters everywhere and the corpses on the floor? and the raging fires?

Character and monster models are overly squat, round and undefined. Characters are not menacing whatsoever. Everything glows too much.

Cause that feels like the right way for blizzard.
