Earlier today I was having my daily dose of Diablo 3 videos re-watching and when going through the Demon Hunter gameplay one, I was wondering : are the bows gonna have their string rendered in-game ? Because there's one brief moment where the DH plays with a bow and I couldn't see any.
I know I know, it is rather stupid but...god's in the details right ?^^ Also I thought that'd be cool but I didn't see find any info on that anywhere.
Yeah, not only this screenshot but also one of the Demon Hunter gameplay videos, I just can't find it again but I watched it earlier and it's only a brief moment in all the video, he (or she ? don't remember) uses a bow to blow up a door and then a skill or two, but we can clearly see no string either.
Although, what I was refering to isn't that time with the DH and the Scoundrel, but at the very beginning with the Enchantress. You see a Male DH also but with a bow
At 0:53 the Scoundrel's crossbow clearly has a string strung across it. I'd imagine it's safe to assume bows will also have an animated string when the game is polished.

Yup, I guess. I mean that would be pretty weird if they didn't think of it in the final game.
Oh hell, I just have too much time on my hands... I need new infos goddamn it
Oh on a side note, I was also thinking about that but I'm pretty sure it's been already confirmed : when entering a town, your character will be in "peaceful mode", meaning all weapons sheathed right ?

Yup. Or at least not holding them in a menacing fashion.
From the Artisan's Gameplay Video you see the monk NOT standing in a "peaceful mode" simply because the graphics for the stance weren't added in that build... again. While on the few screenshots from the PressKit you can see Barbarian in a more relaxed stance.

I also recall hearing about this. As farther evidence this is true, in the first gameplay trailer at 7:28, during the pop-up style cut scene (Which are now confirmed not to be in the game) The Barb has his flaming Maul away on his back while talking to Cain. Since the cut scene is just a close up of the character models, graphically it's sound to do so without it looking funny. I'd imagine Blizzard also chose this, "Peaceful Mode " feature to help add immersion to the story being told through gameplay. When you are speaking to a friend, and have your flaming Maul of death in his face, a sense of believability is lost. So I'd expect your weapons to be put away when in town, and speaking to friendly NPCs.

Blue post in there, that says the character is indeed in a relaxed stance. But nothing about weapons sheathed (which I would prefer and find more believable IMHO) though, I just hope it will be in there.
But still no sheathed weapons, which would be da BEST.
I think the choice was made to have the characters in a relaxed stance instead of sheathing their weapons for a few reasons. One is helps cut down on needed animations. I'm sure if your character were to walk into town and their weapons suddenly pop on their back no one would be happy with it, so there would need to be a realistic animation. Also I think it helps add to the feel that Hell is invading at this very moment, so our Hero is always ready, no matter what. In the video example I linked especially, sheathing your weapon in a demon infested dungeon isn't the best idea at any point in time . I think the same goes for in town, even though we know enemies can't come in town, story wise they can, obviously.

I think you should look "relaxed" unless you've selected a monster that you're going to attack. I like the option of sheathing or having weapons out tied to a button...kind of like z on WoW.
I fear that would make for fast, twitchy animations. In a game like Diablo where you're constantly mowing through creatures, there's hardly a time you'd want you weapons at your side. More freedom isn't always better. I'd hate to see montages of people lowing, and raising certain weapons to make it look like their character is doing something inappropriate..

In just about every game with bows they make it using a simple plane and use the alpha channel to hide parts of the plane. It uses hardly any polys and still looks realistic from a distance.
That stupid bow string is probably going to have 30 polygons
Oh noooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Also, doubtful; they really only need one place where it bends, and it's small enough on the screen that they could just make it a rectangle. So we're talking... 14 polygons (2 endcaps, 4 sides in 3 sections).
Watching the followers video, I noticed the string on the crossbow didn't move when he fired. I really hope that's just because they hadn't animated it yet.

good point....I retract my statement!

I think it's pretty safe to say now that strings are confirmed
